I'll be surprised if there's a lock on any of them given the confusion and difficulty of stocking multiple SKUs.

They do it fine with most other phones. For example, when I got my Nokia 5800, I remember them having seperate phones just for O2 PAYG, O2 Pay Monthly, Orange PAYG, etc...

Wish the networks would hurry up and release their contract prices!

Not really sure what colour I want but want a bet if I decide on white it won't be available until after O2's early upgrade option expires on July 24th ?!?! Am sure they wont be available until after June 24th - which makes me tempted to wait! Never been good at waiting........:(

Hoping to cover both the early upgrade cost £80-100 and phone cost (whatever it is) by selling my 32g white 3GS. Was thinking of dropping to a 16gb this time but just checked and have currently used 15.64GB on my 3GS so maybe will compromise and go for 24m contract instead.

As long as you get the measurements right and are careful the SIM cutting is fairly straight forward, though I will really make sure I'm careful if I do it on a £20 SIM :p

Do you think they'll keep the 12 months deal on the 8GB 3GS, or do you think it's just for getting rid of the 16GB and 32GB 3GS stock?

Yeah, not too confident in my 'cutting down of sim card' skills :p
I have no idea tbh. I am hoping they will do the iPhone 4g 16GB for about £450, locked to O2 for a year, then with a sim card with some internet, probably 500mb, with unlimited wifi for a year. That would be fine for me, then if I could get it fully unlocked, like the ones from Apple atm, after a year, then that would be great :)

the payandgo ones are locked

Pay & Go

Pay & Go phones are not linked to an ongoing contract, although you will need to activate your phone on the carrier's network. You simply select the iPhone of your choice and then purchase a £10 top-up.

the sim free ones are not

SIM-free

iPhones can be purchased without being linked to a specific carrier or contract. Simply select the iPhone of your choice and make your purchase. See a Specialist for Personal Set-up of your new iPhone.

I very strongly suspect that the pay monthly ones will be locked too

Looks like you can't reserve 32GB black iPhones from Apple any more. If Apple doesn't have any stock then there's not much hope for the likes of Orange and O2.

black 32GB are unavailable now

wonder how many will compromise and lump it with a 16GB? I wonder how many people have already ordered a black one when they wanted a white one?

What would happen in the genuine situation that someone somehow loses their sim card? I presume they can set you up and send you a new one? Could always try that if the cutting gets bodged...

Yeah if they do that I'll be chuffed, but TBH I don't see it as too likely, I'll probably end up cutting the eBay SIM, which'd mean next year I'd probably have to just pay the money every month.

Still, I keep hope!

Haha, I suppose so. Thanks :)

What, so you are planning to sell your 4G and then buy the 5th iPhone on contract?

Good point, generally you can always get your network to send you a new SIM.

If the Camera and HD video are that good, I can't see how a 16gb will be enough!

I guess the carriers are in for a flood of calls from customers who have LOST there sim cards then ;)

Apart from they should have some set aside for the networks, and they'll probably be getting more in over the next week, they just don't want to overstretch themselves and give people false hopes when the phone can't be provided for the date they specified. It'll be fine - well, I hope!

Is there any way to speak to o2 on the online chat type thing? If not, I think I'm gunna ring and see what their reply is regarding the swapping to micro-sims.

They're probably so annoyed by the amount of iPhone 4 questions, but if they'd got their act together instead of letting "the guru," do all the talking, then we'd not be half as impatient.

My girlfriend doesn't have an iPhone and was PAYG with Vodafone for years, around 5 months ago she went with O2 Simplicity plan and they sent her an O2 sim. The sim is a full sized one but can be pushed out from the centre to reveal a micro sim. She got a sim-only contract and no phone from them.

So if you were to say you lost your sim card, would they send you out one of these as a replacement or maybe they grown wise to this option and if you have an iPhone send you out a full sized Sim so you couldn't do this!?

The current PAYG Sim cards that you get when you buy an iPhone 3GS with O2 have a year of unlimited data and also a year of wifi with openzone and 'the cloud'.

That is why I am hoping that I can get the same with the iPhone 4 with O2 this year...

Yes there will be 12 month free 3G with O2 and Orange. I found out earlier today from an apple rep.

Has anyone actually got an email from the Guru in the last 3 days?
