Hi everyone, this is my first post on a forum so go easy if it comes out in big pink letters!

Anyway, I want to see if anyone has heard anything regarding discounts from their network providers who are due an upgrade.

Today I spoke to O2 (my providor) and the guy told me not to upgrade instore on launch day on a pay monthly basis as I will only receive the same offers as a new customer to O2, but if I was to wait till the 24th and go to O2 directly I would be able to 'haggle' a better tarrif and/or cheaper handset price as I am Gold customer.

I dont know whether to beleive this guy as I thought all contracts were set and no 'haggling' was allowed before, but I also spoke to a vodafone advisor yesterday who said they would be offering existing customers discounts when they upgrade to iP4.

So long story short have any of you guys heard about out of contract upgraders getting discounts and do you agree it would be impossible to get this discount if you went to an apple store to upgrade your contract on launch day.

Phew!

Is there any way to speak to o2 on the online chat type thing? If not, I think I'm gunna ring and see what their reply is regarding the swapping to micro-sims.

They're probably so annoyed by the amount of iPhone 4 questions, but if they'd got their act together instead of letting "the guru," do all the talking, then we'd not be half as impatient.

Nope, you can ring them or e-mail them but that's it.

Has anyone who's ordered anything from the UK Apple Store had a confirmation email yet? Going on 5 hours and nothing here after three orders.

I'm a little bit gutted that they've pulled the personal shopper appointments for next Thursday. Last year was brilliant, walking past people who'd queued round the block at the Glasgow store and jumping to the head of the queue at 8am.

I'm sure o2 will offer you some sort of deal, wether it be discount or extra minutes/texts or even free insurance.

Cool just saw your post.

So your collecting from the Trafford Centre like me then?

Don't suppose anyone knows what the score is with getting into the Trafford Centre before the usual opening time? Do they just open the one door to the centre or are all the doors open?

I usually park on the upper level alongside Selfridges on the opposite side from the Apple store. Bit of a pain parking there if the only door that will be open is over on the Orient/food court side!

I haven't because I reserved in store but people have posted saying they have had there confirmation. Some members also said that confirmation can take up to 24 hours.

Edit - Not a clue on how to get into the Trafford Centre prior to the normal opening time. I'm sure they will open all the main entrances so no worries!

To all those asking about O2 providing new MicroSims to continue current 3GS or Simplicity tariffs, please check their Twitter feed: http://twitter.com/O2

They are not in a talkative mood today, but all the other recent tweets state very clearly that we can continue with current tariffs by swapping to a MicroSim. They would not say this if they were not willing to provide us with new sim cards.

I'm quite tempted to pre-order to pick up with Apple, but I want to see the PAYG deal with o2 first.

I'd imagine the main entrance will atleast be open at the Trafford Centre, but I'm sure everyone of them will.

Got both mine through about 10 mins after ( 1 reservation , 1 order just in case)

I thought that second queue at my Apple store was for reserved ones, but now you mentioned that, it may well have been personal shoppers... bugger

Hi and welcome to the forums, i too was new to the forums only yesterday but have replied so many times i'm now a member (wonder how many posts that took)
Anyways regarding the discount for people who are still with the supplier sounds intresting, though when i got my 3G iPhone, was told i could have nearly every phone for free (nokia N95 was £50 at time) but with the iPhone No discounts at all were aloud to be given as this was Apple that enforced this on them.

But now that O2 are no longer exclusive to the UK then maybe their could be some truth to this, hopefully it wouldn't involve the usual retentions/threatening to leave scenario game we normally have to play for discounts.

Also providers will be keen you stay in contract as alot of them, especially O2 have changed their contracts, so less minutes and capped data for same price points, so pretty sure that by dangling a carrot and a £50 or so saving off the cost of hanset by being loyal will get you to stay with them and into the new contracts, forefiting any unlimited data plan you currently get.

What they say, and do, can be construed in very different ways.

Apple Store

Am I right in that Apple Store will be selling the phone with a selection of contract options on the 24th? Sorry if this is a stupid question. Almost all the talk here is about getting a PAYG phone.

All entrances will be open - they were when the 3G was released and I was there at 7am :-D

They lied to me in the e-mail!

Thanks for posting this! I seriously hope they continue their 12 month free internet PAYG deal! :)

They might not have done, on all the other networks it says 'Coming June 24' and on theirs it says 'Coming Soon' - maybe that means they aren't launching on the big day, just a thought...

That's where I park! Was wondering that myself. Can't see them opening EVERY door to the building at 08:00am.
