Am I right in that Apple Store will be selling the phone with a selection of contract options on the 24th? Sorry if this is a stupid question. Almost all the talk here is about getting a PAYG phone.

Those of us that elected to reserve online for in-store pickup were offered 'monthly contract' alongside PAYG and sim free. No mention was made which contract options or networks, merely that you could reserve one on the basis of 'monthly contract'.

What contract/network options have been offered on in store for the 3Gs?

16 gig black iPhone reserved for pickup at trafford centre store. Get in! Waiting on the email confirmation though...............

That's where I park! Was wondering that myself. Can't see them opening EVERY door to the building at 08:00am.

I'm planning on parking on the food court/Orient side just in case. The other answer is to rappel in Rainbow Six style through the central dome above the cinema ;)

I'll likely call the Trafford store sometime over the next couple of days and ask. I'm assuming they'll have to agree something with the centre's management to allow their early opening.

Just got this from Orange:

Hello ------
The new iPhone is on its way. At the moment, we’re planning to launch the iPhone 4 on 24 June.
Keep the date in mind so that you can be one of the first to get your hands on it. Once out, it’ll be available in our shops, on our website and by phone. We’ll even send you a little reminder beforehand so you don’t forget.
If you like, you can find out a bit more about the iPhone 4 while you’re waiting.
Best wishes
Orange

Hi and welcome to the forums, i too was new to the forums only yesterday but have replied so many times i'm now a member (wonder how many posts that took)
Anyways regarding the discount for people who are still with the supplier sounds intresting, though when i got my 3G iPhone, was told i could have nearly every phone for free (nokia N95 was £50 at time) but with the iPhone No discounts at all were aloud to be given as this was Apple that enforced this on them.

But now that O2 are no longer exclusive to the UK then maybe their could be some truth to this, hopefully it wouldn't involve the usual retentions/threatening to leave scenario game we normally have to play for discounts.

Also providers will be keen you stay in contract as alot of them, especially O2 have changed their contracts, so less minutes and capped data for same price points, so pretty sure that by dangling a carrot and a £50 or so saving off the cost of hanset by being loyal will get you to stay with them and into the new contracts, forefiting any unlimited data plan you currently get.

Thanks for the replies guys, I had the exact same problem when I got the 3g with no bonus or incentive just "we've got the iphone, you want it"

ive been an O2 customer for 9 years now and have fairly high bills each month (paid for by my work thank god) so I would like to see a fairly substantial package offered or I would glady lose 50 quid to go buy it on launch day if that was all the discount they offered.

Maybe I'll start a different topic on the forum so everyone can compare what offers there contract providers are giving when they hear about them an we can see who really is giving the best deals to their long term customers.

If we do start seeing PAYG phones, I'm just wondering what the difference is going to be between them and the unlocked ones.

I think I'm right in saying that off the shelf, iPhones aren't locked. It's only when you activate it through iTunes with a SIM in it that it will lock to that operator. So if I activate my iPhone 4 with an O2 SIM in it, how does the activation server know whether to lock my phone to O2 (PAYG) or not (unlocked)?

Incidentally, mobile providers aren't bothered about contract customers unlocking their phones, as they still get the money from the contract. It's the PAYG ones they want to keep locked as they do subsidise them to a lesser degree and rely on getting that back through PAYG charges, so unless Apple are offering the operators a means of locking during activation where the server recognises it's a PAYG rather than an unlocked handset then I don't think the operators will be willing to subsidise PAYG.

I pre-ordered a few hours ago, and have not received an email. However my order is there on my Apple store account, with estimated delivery etc..

Anyone else not received emailed confirmation of a pre-order, but has an order number etc?

Apologies in advance If this has already been asked but didn't want to go through all the pages.

I pre ordered this morning to pick up at Newcastle store and I'm about 90% sure I selected the PAYG option when intact want a sim free. I'm guessing it won't matter as the phones are sealed regardless of what option you take.

Just wondering what people think? I'm sure I read somewhere you can change your mind instore. I also tried to amend my reservation but no joy

Same boat as me there, ill let the whole fiasco settle down a bit before i start to worry

What i want to know is that if ive been with O2 for probably last 10 years and have just finished my 18month iPhone term and gone onto Simplicity 30 day plan for the last 3 months.....If i will be entitled to a discount on the iPhone 4!?

Ideally i would like to turn my current Simplicity deal into a 12 month simplicity plan so that i keep my "unlimited data". If i knew this then i could commit to a 12 month simplicity deal and then purchase the discounted iPhone 4 through O2

All handsets are unlocked and will remain unlocked even after activating. :):)

Yeah, don't worry. I sometimes don't get order confirmation emails from Apple until the next day.

Me too! I placed my order 3 hours ago.

Any help will be appreciated.
I pre ordered the iphone 4 together with a bumper and this is delaying the iphone delivery date. My question is, if i cancel the bumper now will I loose my position and thus not get the iphone delivered on june 24? Also, will they send me a new confirmation email after i cancel the bumper and keep the iphone only?? And finally will the delivery date be updated immediately???
Thank you so much

Yes, understand that for the ones being sold as UNLOCKED, but will the same apply for PAYG? If yes, I don't see the operators wanting to subsidise them; if no, how does the activation server know whether it's activating an unlocked or PAYG phone and therefore whether to lock it or not?
