Any help will be appreciated.
I pre ordered the iphone 4 together with a bumper and this is delaying the iphone delivery date. My question is, if i cancel the bumper now will I loose my position and thus not get the iphone delivered on june 24? Also, will they send me a new confirmation email after i cancel the bumper and keep the iphone only?? And finally will the delivery date be updated immediately???
Thank you so much

It will just remove the bumper from your order, not set up a new order so your allocation would not change. Order change email may take a while, but the status on your Orders page will reflect the change pretty much straight away with a new delivery date of 24th.

All handsets are unlocked and will remain unlocked even after activating. :):)

I have the same question as NightFox. I am looking to probably get it PAYG if O2 have free data for a year. Will this still definitely be completely locked? How do you know that all handsets will be already unlocked, maybe it's only the ones Apple are currently selling?

Yes, understand that for the ones being sold as UNLOCKED, but will the same apply for PAYG? If yes, I don't see the operators wanting to subsidise them; if no, how does the activation server know whether it's activating an unlocked or PAYG phone and therefore whether to lock it or not?

Had various conversations today both with apple store on phone and with Regent Street store. All handsets come unlocked from the factory. They will not be locked to any network upon activation, regardless of it being contract or payg.

As with current handsets being sold in Belgium, Italy etc. Once unlocked they remain unlocked for life. Exactly the same here. :):)

i think apple must note down the iphone serial numbers and the ucid ( i think thats the other 1) numbers of the phones which go to the companies and put them on there server as locked or something. well i think thats how it might work. :)

Am just quoting info I received today. Give Apple a call and see what they say. 0800 0480408. :):)

Are there any news on the tariffs for the carriers here?

I only see o2 :(

The iPhone price got bumped up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MG!!!!
I thought they said that the iPhone 4 will be the same as the 3GS when that was new. >:/

If we do start seeing PAYG phones, I'm just wondering what the difference is going to be between them and the unlocked ones.

I think I'm right in saying that off the shelf, iPhones aren't locked. It's only when you activate it through iTunes with a SIM in it that it will lock to that operator. So if I activate my iPhone 4 with an O2 SIM in it, how does the activation server know whether to lock my phone to O2 (PAYG) or not (unlocked)?
Untrue. SIM-Free means the phone isn't locked. So you can register the phone to any network you like as many times as you like.

My guess is that the PAYG offers that'll come through the operators will be slightly more (overhead costs) and benefit you won't need to worry about the micro-sim situation (as I guess all networks will have to change their SIMs to dual purpose ones sent with every phone eventually - surely they'll be a system in place for people in mid-contract).

Just pre-ordered my black 16GB. All set for 24th June :D.

I pre-ordered a few hours ago, and have not received an email. However my order is there on my Apple store account, with estimated delivery etc..

Anyone else not received emailed confirmation of a pre-order, but has an order number etc?

Same here,

i suspect their email servers are struggling along with the rest of the site. You should get it in the next 24 hrs, if not, try the online chat and request they resend the email receipt.

Cheers

The Long Awaited email from Orange UK.

Nothing fancy, no mention or pre-order. Read into the content what you will.

In that case, I can't see the PAYG prices being any better than the unlocked prices. In fact, we might not see any actual PAYG phones at all? I suppose the operators may still offer a slight subsidy because many people who sign up to their PAYG contracts will just stick with them anyway, even if the phone isn't locked.

Still, with my existing iPhone simplicity 30 day rolling contract (£20 for 600 minutes, 1200 texts and uncapped data) I think I'll stick with O2 anyway! unlocked or not

Orange E-mail

OMG... Just received almost the most useless e-mail from orange... only new info is that they will definately have it on the 24th, and that it can be bought instore, over the phone and online

okay... so maybe it isn't totally useless for me... I need to be able to order online what with being outta the country till mid july... but a bit more info woulda been nice...

I know. I was referring to the current process (3G/3GS) and wondering how the activation process was going to know whether an iPhone 4 was meant to be locked or not, but looks like they will all remain unlocked.

Minor updates to the spreadsheet now.

Includes official sim free prices against the tariffs for those taking O2 Simplicity and GiffGaff deals.

This is basing it on buying it Sim-free from Apple and using their sim card.

No. They said "at the moment we're planning to launch the iPhone 4 on the 24th June"

there's no "if". O2 have published their PAYG tariffs. The 12 month PAYG bundle is now only WiFi access, to get the "free" mobile data for any given month you need to have topped up at least £10 during the previous month.

If what you say is true then this will create a huge demand to get these phones as cheap as possible on contract and then sell them off on ebay, gumtree or where ever as sim free to make as much money as possible.

Somehow I cannot see Apple or the carriers letting this happen as this is the exact kind of situation which they have both fought long and hard to stop.

Also there would be no incentive to get one sim free if that truly was the case.

Can anyone verify LondonMystery's findings?
