So how much do people think it will cost with a contract over here?

I know that for a 3gs you have been able to get a 24 month contract with 600 minutes and unlimted texts with the phone at around £90, does anyone expect to go up much or should it stay about the same?

Not really. I'm presuming that the policy just means that if you are nearing the end of your contract you can sign up for a new 18/24 month one, and pay the same (for the handset) as a new user signing up to an 18/24 month contract, but not have to worry about paying off the contract. Similar to what was mentioned in the keynote for AT&T customers.

So those (like myself as well) of us with 3G's on simplicity are essentially signing up as new customers so will still get exactly the same deal.

Well, that's the way I read it anyway (from the tiny amount of information there is, I'll give you...)

I read it more as 'discounted/free upgrade' for contract owners. Possibly a little hastily.
I think us 3G owners, both who's contracts have/are about to run out, should get a discounted upgrade. The iPhone shouldn't be a million miles away from normal upgrade practice, which is every 18 months/2 years. It'd be highly unfair to then say, right, you've been on £45 a month for 18 months, but now you need to start again AND pay for the handset.

the iPhone 4 prices were the same as 3Gs last year so probably the same price as is now

From the info I've received from o2. Most contract customers will be able to upgrade to iphone 4 without fear of any penalties. Having worked for o2 I have a few contacts at senior management level. (see my posts regarding iphone 3gs last year).

Doesn't affect me as I get an annual upgrade on both my lines anyway, just thought it might be useful.

If anyone wants to know more contact the o2 press office via email. They won't say much but will respond promptly and do drop hints as to what is going to happen. :):)

I still have to decide if I want to get it PAYG or contract, my 3Gs was a PAYG I guess it depends on the price of the phone on PAYG.

Will this apply to customers (ie me) who have been on contract for 8 out of 24 months? Surely they won't let me upgrade my 3GS already?!

The least amount of time anybody with a 3GS will have left on a contract will be 7 months if got a launch model on 18 month contract.

I believe the best I could hope for would be a discounted handset, restart contract and give back 3GS.

I got a launch 3GS and have 7 out of 18 months left...I'm guessing they will simply let me buy the handset at the same price as new customers, and then sign a new 18 month contract.

I'm still considering buying out my contract and going to Simplicity/another network though.

can i buy the iPhone 4 in the north of ireland and use it in the south??
If it's on contract then the calls and texts will cost more, if they offer you a contract with you being form another country technically. If it's a a pay&go then you should easily be able to put in a sim card, providing it's an iPhone 4 sim card.

Be nice if Three got a look in. But somehow doubt it. Also if you get a payg. Will they let you unlock again. O2 didn't straight away with the 3gs

Hey!
I have a 3GS on O2 on PAYG with a 1-year web and wifi bolt on.
I was wondering if I have to pay full price to get the iPhone 4? And also, more importantly, will the new iPhone renew my bolt on for another year?
Thanks!

US prices, as have been said, are the same as what the 3GS cost last year - indicating that the PAYG cost will be the same as last year = iPhone 4 16GB £440 + £10 top up (this £10 thing was mandatory last year with o2 PAYG I believe).

Put simply, I thing we can safely assume the PAYG price will be £450 all in for the 16GB.

Just gonna pop my o2 contract sim in to the new phone again.

Let the chasing PAYG stock fun begin!

Why? 3 never really keep customers very well, and they also have a habit of having rubbish phone line up.
Offering the iPhone on 3 would be like mutten dressed as Lamb.

To be honest I don't have a lot of info at the moment am waiting for a call from a friend who is very high up at o2. He is the 1 who normally feeds me info.

1 thing for sure, o2 would never ask for the 3gs back, that is your handset, whether you get an upgrade or continue with your current contract you are basically paying for the phone.

I would imagine that you and others like you will get some sort of discount on upgrades plus sign a new 18 or 24 month contract depending on what you have. :):)

Oh I don't know. This is on my iPhone. On three and best coverage around here. Ported number over from o2 last week no problem. Threes customer support was ok. I have an ipad and mifi on three. Far better than o2's crap offering around here.

Poker in the front, liquer in the rear?

OMFG no no no no. Why on earth would you want Three involved? You're better off selling your soul to the devil!
