Thanks to andybno1 it looks like we won't need to cut sims and swap them to use Orange 2-4-1. Just download the Orange Wednesdays iPhone app and put an Orange number in the settings.
Orange generally want you to use the app via data so that orange see your an orange user, they put a phone number entry into settings incase people used wifi so this is a great way to cheat the system...... just remembered the orange number probably will get a charge for the txt as they send the code via txt as well..... which never made sense since you have the app showing the code lol

I've seen a few people reporting that their question to T-Mobile about getting a micro SIM gets the answer "what's a micro-SIM?". Has anyone got past that stage and got any sort of more interesting answer?

I think I'm going to go with Orange PAYG, provided that I can convince myself that the 250MB cap will be OK for my usage. My preferred fallback plan is to keep using my existing T-Mobile PAYG account in an unlocked iPhone but I'd prefer to get an official micro-SIM card rather than cutting down my existing card.

Yeah that would be me, been with Tmobile for bout 3 yrs now rolling contract.
The way i look at it is you have one of 2 options.

A. Keep calling the networks and screaming for a micro sim until they eventually sort it out. (This could take a long time if your with T-Mobile as their new players to the iphone and have no idea whats going on)

B. Cut it down yourself.

For me its option B as i sold my iphone 3gs a week ago and now using some old fone from 5 yrs ago. I wont have the patience to wait for the networks to get their act together to send me a micro sim once ive got the new iPhone in my hands.

In an ideal world all networks should have been prepared for this and should get the micro sims in place before the launch of the iPhone 4.

I personal blame Apple for changing the standard. They said they needed the space for the micro sim but I don't buy it.

it would be rather annoying to have a shiny new iphone4 sitting on your lap on 24th june and no sim card to put in it.....

and if all UK phones are unlocked then apple are charging a small premium over Orange (only one to be announced) who are charging £20 less for a pay and go which is supposedly unlocked...

They already have a supply of microsims for the iPad. Shouldn't be an issue for iPhone.

I ordered a microsim to sim adapter off eBay so that I can cut it down ready and still continue to use it in the 3GS in the mean time.

Trimming the SIM looks easy enough. I mean, in the words of Jeremy Clarkson, "how hard can it be?" :)

Just had a chat with Vodafone and was told that:

1) Existing iPhone SIM-only deals will NOT be valid on iPhone 4 (how they know you're using an iPhone 4 I'm not sure)

2) They can't issue any MicroSIM's yet because they haven't been given the deal information.

3) They are expecting to announce packages by Friday Afternoon latest.

The usual warnings apply: this is from one sales person, might be talking rubbish etc etc etc.

So long O2...

I'm going to Orange :)

They've just been a carry on. Can't get an answer from them at all. Visited the Orange website and got everything i needed to know :) So think I'll be going there to buy my iPhone! If their sold out, I'll be off to the Apple store to pick up my reserved one, then can just get a hold of a Orange Microsim :)

Probably all BS, like the o2 guy who told me of compatibility issues when using a non iPhone tariff sim inside an iPhone 4

Hey guys I've got a question. I'm an American living in the UK and just pre-ordered the iPhone 4 yesterday due to arrive on June 24th.

I pre-ordered directly from Apple, of course, and was wondering if the Orange and O2 PAYG tariffs they have for their iPhones they sell will also be available to me?

Take Orange for example, their Dolphin PAYG tariff is different from the iPhone version of the Dolphin plan on PAYG, as it included 250 mb mobile internet along with the 300 texts (for £10/month top up), etc.

If I walk into an Orange shop and present them with my Apple bought iPhone 4 will they allow me to join their own iPhone PAYG plan or do you HAVE to buy the iPhone from Orange (or O2 for their data PAYG tariffs) in order to get the extra perks?

Thanks.

Hey everyone,

I just got off the phone with o2 and, well if this is true, you guys robably wont like it.

I have a simplicity 30 day contract which is £20.00 per month and was enquiring about signing up for the 12 month version because its £5.00 a month cheaper. I was then planning to buy an iphone4 pay and go as no doubt many of you are.

The man from o2 said however, they will NOT be supplying microsims for contracts other than the new 'proper' iphone tariffs and you cant get your number and contract transferred to one unless you pick one of the new fully iphone contracts. He said despite them replacing sims now if you lose it etc, they will not send out microsims unless you take out a new contract....

He even went and checked with his supervisor who confirmed it....

Time to get the scissors out?!

This is highly unlikely. So if i have an iPhone Simplicity contract i'll be denied a microsim because a certain carrier wants to force me on a tariff?

Customer Service (and supervisors) rarely know what their talking about and/or spread FUD to get customers who don't know better to jump on the 18-24 month tariffs

I call major BS.

because iPhone 4 is the only handset on their network using a microsim?

iPads?

Great minds think alike. :)

Also ordered four free Orange sims to practise cutting up.

unfortunately they will put you on the new iPhone tariff, come 24th the current 3Gs tariffs will be gone

O2 Micro Sim's

I have just spoken to O2 and they have confirmed to me that they DO NOT have any micro sims available for delivery before pre launch! they only way up to now is to arrive at the O2 store on launch day and hope they have some available! plus priority will be going to the people who buy the phones from them and not Apple! then once you have one the registration process to change your number to the micro sim could take 24-48 hrs

As other posts state i think we are going to have a brick for a week or so! especially if you cant get into a store to collect a sim

Don't you have an old sim you could butcher?

This is wrong. http://shop.o2.co.uk/new-iphone/aboutsimswap.html# - anyone with a current o2 contract can swap to a micro sim. easy.

haha this thread is over 5000 posts long, seriously, it's a phone, everyone knows how to get hold of it and most people have already ordered it, kinda funny how everyone is still talking about it like it's just been announced xD (and yes, I have ordered one too)

They might do an iPhone 4 SIM only deal for PAYG given that Apple is selling them SIM free, but only time will tell for sure.

BTW, the iPhone Dolphin plan has unlimited free texts, not 300 ;)

Don't know if anyone's said this yet.....but i'm with orange and i just phoned them up and they now have microsims in stock and they are shipping mine out today which will arrive within 3-4 business days!!! Happy days.....had to go on a £25 a month rolling contract though....currently on £20 which was 200 mins unlimited texts and 500mb data....but they said i had to take out an iphone data tarriff which was £10 instead of £5 and gives u unlimited data (fair usage of 750 meg) and unlimited wifi and bt hotspots etc.......

but i'm well happy.....getting my iphone 4 delivered on 24th june and my microsim is on the way as well!!! happy days :D

I get the feeling this is rubbish, I think O2 CS are full of BS.

They are probably telling people this to get them to buy the phone (locked) from them.

Personally, I've reserved one, I'll ask them for a PAYG so I get the micro sim and triple check its unlocked.

Failing that, I'll get it sim free from Apple, walk over to the O2 store, hide the Apple bag, and demand a micro sim there and then!

last I checked this was a discussion forum we're allowed to talk about a iPhone are we not? people are still talking about the iPhone because not all networks have released details yet so we will talk about that too. your statement is like sayin the 3Gs is out why are people still posting threads about that

This whole thing so is overcomplicated! I can't think how the Apple store is gonna be able to sell contracts easily. Are the Apple stores gonna have enough microsims for everyone?!

Kinda makes me think though, that they might all be unlocked, or get locked when they get activated?
