Apologies if this has already been asked: has anyone already on Orange PAYG got any information about getting hold of a micro-SIM? I called earlier; on the third attempt (kept getting cut off) I enquired as to how I get a micro-SIM and was told to visit my local Orange shop. Has anyone else heard this, or have any other PAYGers managed to get a micro-SIM sent out by Orange?

I think I will be doing this too. Don't know whether or not to camp out at a tiny Orange shop near me, a larger O2 store or the carphone warehouse.

I've booked the day off and I was thinking about getting there about 6 AM. What do you guys reckon?

If only I knew the answer to this. I also have the choice of shops - ironically Vodafone and O2 are right next to each other so I suppose I could sit, quite literally, outside *both* shops :)

I think I'll go to Orange, given that they appear to have the better deal (inclusive data and better calling and texting rates - plus the 2-4-1 deals) and consider changing to another provider later, depending on who has the better offers.

Phoned my local Apple Store, Victoria Square, Belfast to see if my reservation had gone through and I would be guaranteed an iPhone 4 on Launch Day.

The guy was able to pull my reservation up but he advised that they did not know how much stock they would be receiving and could not guarantee that all reservations would receive an iPhone on that day but they would receive priority for the stock that they do get in...

Does this mean that if reservations outnumber the stock they get in then no phone will be available for people that just turn up expecting to buy 1??!!

I followed your example and just called Victoria Square.... They said that my reservation is indeed confirmed on their systems too, which is a relief.

I've been all over this thread - following it rather obsessively to the point that I'm beginning to doubt my sanity. After all, in a month down the line this will all become rather academic and we'll have all moved onto other threads and interests with out new iPhones, right? :p
How have you been? Did you get a pre-order in?

probably obsessing over the gyro and 720p recording and the retina display ;)

couldnt you just, buy the iphone from lets say, orange and then just get an o2 or vodafone microsim and it would still work and would be as if you had bought it from there anyway?

edit: sorry double post (as if you care anyway)

Like I said, thats why you have a pay as you go phone for the night out, you don't need all the fancy bits, too dark to record etc.

But it depends on your situation, I have not looked too much into what you can use to track your phone.

However I have to agree the possibility of loosing £600 in one go is scary. Wouldn't pay more than 10 pound, however anything less I would consider :O (with no house insurance)

EDIT:

Second option addresses sim card :p

Thanks for the link mate will look through it. The insurance is £7.50 anyhow. I know some prob think a waste but just gives me peace of mind in case i lost it. I do have a Sony Erickson w800i i used to use when i first got my 3G for night outs i suppose.

Actually I was dazzled by the lack of price plans and then before I knew it the store was down. Then it was back up and I was looking at the specs, then it went down again. Then I came here to chat about it for a dozen pages or so and then there were no more June 24th delivery slots left!

And there is still a woeful lack of prices for the iPhone 4!

Apple Trafford

Just spoke with a dude at Apple Trafford Centre.

He told me that when I get to the store that there will be on reserved for me with my name on and the only thing they will ask for is my name and email address.

I went on to ask if I'm buying sim only or PAYGO what do I need to bring. He said just yourself and payment obviously :p.

So I just said at the end. So when I come there will be one set a side for me. He said 'Yes there will be one reserved for you no problems there'.

That's my plan. I also need (did I just say, "need"? - I mean "want") two of them, too. Ideally one in white and one in black so we can tell whose is whose.

Many people seem to be calling up their local Apple stores to confirm their reservations; has anybody thought to ask how many reservations they have on their system in total?

This could give us an indication to how likely we'll be at laying our hands on an iPhone...

Where can you find 7.50? Havn't really looked at phone insurance, and my guess it will only be for the first year, when it will be worth more :p

Oh and that second option requires it to be jailbroken = no no for now :p

Might be Sim-locked to Orange. Who knows yet.

How's the Coverage in your Area between o2 and Vodafone ?
coverage seems to be about the same over my house

someone posted earlier today they rung Orange and asked for a microsim and it's on the way to them with an adapter to turn it into a normal sim

I'll see you at Vicky square that morning then!

Well their pay as you go deals look pretty amazing, best phone deal i have ever seen!

But a jailbreak shout put this in order? Is a sim lock software or hardware locked?

edit: were the other iphones sim locked?

The 2G, 3G, 3GS were all locked and later offered an option to unlock them when o2 lost Exclusivity. Nobody knows if Orange, O2 etc will give an option to unlock free/ or at a cost right now, might be after a minimum term perhaps.

Jailbreak will be able to sort it, But it's inconvenient and for honesty, £30 more, might as well go for an Unlocked one.
Also we don't know if the iPhone 4 will be able to be unlocked by the Dev-Team or whoever when it's released, may need some time tweaking.

Cashback

Just checked both quidco and top cash back and the simplicity 12 month contracts is £25 cashback £60 is for 18month normal contracts

Back in April, Quidco cashback was £160 on £25, 12 month sim only contracts, so I got the iPhone simplicity tariff for the wife. £11.66 a month for 900 minutes isn't bad... Having said that cashback is still to be paid.

I'm on pay as you go and will wait until an offer like this comes around again.

http://www.o2.co.uk/shop/phoneinsurance

Though on my current 3G i am paying £7.50 and states O2 insure prem. The price for iPhones says 10/15. They know i have an iPhone as was on contract and they just swapped it over.
Was told that because it wasn't a new insurance setup would keep same price when i get my iPhone 4. Hope this is the case and i am def covered as it looks like iPhone 4 cover is actually £15 a month, but this may be for new customers!?

Anybody else going to Sheffield, Meadowhall?

I haven't got a clue what time to go down, I presume the actual centre doors won't open that early. Might pop in to the Apple store and ask...

I'll be the guy standing with the bodybag, blowtorch and pair of pliers - I'll be getting an iPhone - might be his even - but I'll be getting one ;)
