No, O2 won't have PayG phone available at launch. You'll have to get the phone direct from Apple. (Which you're incredibly unlikely to do on launch day unless you get very very very very lucky at an Apple Store)

Thanks guys. 18 month £40 per month deal 32gb it is, with a 24 month 16gb £35 per month deal for the missus. We'll both get £125 cashback and about £200 back (total) on my 16gb 3G and her 8gb 3G through eBay.

I am crap at quoting on forum boards but not as bad as the maths I see people throwing around:

18 x £30 + £209 = £749
24 x £25 + £279 = £879

That £130 difference is also reflected in a 6 month difference in service.

If you want to keep on a cycle with new iPhone releases then you need to move to where there is a Simplicity tariff to carry you over the next 6 months so that:

18 x £35 = 630 + 179 = £809
24 x £30 = 720 + 179 = £899

However, 6 months of rolling on a 30 day simplicity will set you back £120 and bring the 18 month to £929 over the same period and for the same minutes, texts, etc.

Maybe my maths are wrong, but I see a difference of £30 over 2 years for the same service (that is £1.25 a month).

lol. I'm fully aware of the "6 month difference in service" but we are talking about time your locked to a contract. iPhone 4G will be out in a years time and people will want to upgrade to that no doubt so you'll have to pay off 12 months on a 24 month contract rather than 6 on an 18month.

Phones have always been cheaper on 24month contracts but not now lmao

So it seems like I'm going to stick on the O2 simplicity plan..

Are there any similar SIM only deals with other companies? Currently I'm looking at Simplicity 15 (300 mins & unlimited texts for £15 a month), but it would be nice to have some more minutes.

Can anyone help?

How cheap do you want it?

Orange would probably be the nearest to what you want for £15. But it's an 18 month contract as opposed to 12 from O2, and 200 Less Minutes. Stick with O2.

you may be able to randomly throw £500-600 on a phone at will, but some of us need to find an alternative way of spreading the cost, or have other priorities.

Wrong assumption there bradderz - at the time of writing that, I did not know that the phone was still 500 - 600, I thought it was around the £200 mark.

Are you sure? The tariff table issued today by O2 lists Simplicity tariffs as part of the Pay Monthly section and, therefore, I assume the phone prices apply to the whole table?

Btw, visual v/mail is included on Simplicity tariffs - I'm on one and I have it.

It says "iPhone pricing (for 18 and 24 month handset contracts only)"

Just above the top row of prices.

Haha just phoned my local three shop and was told no one in the uk is getting an iphone 4 before july. not even apple at the apple stores. I just laughed and hung up

So 3 aren't going to have ANY stock before July?

I refuse to believe that :p

Also, the stores know nothing by this point. 3 corporate will not send them anything before they announce it on their website. I worked for 3. I know how it works

friend spoke to the sales assistant at carphonewarehouse today and he said that the white iphone will be sold on launch. apparently apple, o2, orange etc will have them in stock. they won't be selling them on PAYG on launch but only for upgrade. and for those who have reserved their iphone 4 at apple, YES it will be there for you but you have till closing time to collect it. if you chose PAYG or PAY MONTHLY it doesn't matter because you'll get the option at the store to change. and when you're at it just ask for the white iphone =] no point calling them. they get 100s of calls a day asking about it and obviously they're getting annoyed so they're gonna tell you BS.

LOL - Apple don't know, but Carphone Warehouse do

Having looked at the new o2 tariffs - Why on earth would someone NOT go for one of the simplicity tariffs?

Is there something I'm missing? As far as I knew, the only difference between a normal iPhone Pay monthly tariff and the simplicity ones is that you don't get visual voicemail???

The issue is that some people cannot afford to pay 599 or 499 for a phone. This is why they take up a contract that costs them much less up front but usually costs them a bit more overall.

You do get Visual Voicemail on Simplicity iPhone plans. I moved to one 2 days ago. I would reccomend signing up to the old Simplicity Plan asap as it still provides you with unlimited Data. This plan will no longer be available after the 24th of June.

Ah right, I see, got it now!

So I'm currently on a simplicity contract - Will I be able to walk into store (early) on the 24th and grab a phone, without taking out a new contract? or do i HAVE to sign up to one of these contracts? (or alternatively wait till the PAYG ones are released!)

Now that... I can't answer.

I will be  if you get any cashback on the iPhone 4 lol O2 Open can never be applied on new iPhone releases. After several months from release they will then allow it.

I'm trying to work out whether I should go for 18 months until December 2011 and get the iphone 5 halfway through, skip the iphone 6, and get the iphone 7 with another 18 month contract. Or 24 months, skip iphone 5 and go with iphone 6?

Thats me back again with the spreadsheet.

http://bit.ly/dqmdsn

O2's prices now added to the spreadsheet.

Waiting for Vodafone now to reveal their prices, but based on the move from O2 and Orange, Id expect Vodafone to upp their phone costs by £30 to come into line with them.

PAYG prices coming from O2 this afternoon.

Get grabbing and compare - http://bit.ly/dqmdsn

I'm loving your spreadsheet, but there are a couple of errors. The notes on the right aren't included in the filter (easy fix, type 'Notes' in cell M2 and recreate the filter - now the notes will move with the row when re-ordering). Also the "Total Cost" is incorrect on the 1 month rolling contract lines since the cost doesn't account for the fact that you'll be spending 12 months (probably) on the plan until the next iPhone :p

Love the sheet though - thank you very much for putting this together. If this board could do rep, I'd rep you :)

Just spoke to woman at the Orange store, she took my name down to call me back when preorders come in, she said both black AND white would be available on launch day, asked which colour and size I wanted and said she'd call me back when preorders go up and I could pop in and pay a deposit for it, and this was for PAYG.

just trying to work out the best deal now o2 are out. Does anyone know how long into your contract can you change your tariff?

Why dont you use o2 Recycle?

16gb IPhone 3g i was quoted 180£ so a 8gb should be like 100+

All Pay Monthly O2 customers are part of O2 Priority List and everyone has an opportunity to upgrade early. Have a look at the table below to see how soon you will be eligible for an upgrade.

If you're a Platinum customer... get a 6 month early upgrade
If you're a Gold customer... get a 3 month early upgrade
If you're a Silver or Blue customer... get a 1 month early upgrade

I'd consider CEX as they give will give you a minimum of £159 for the 16gb and £141 for the 8gb provided they turn on and have a charger...they can have scratches and all sorts as long as theyre not crushed etc. You get more for them if their better condition.

(prices are for O2 locked iPhone 3G's, you get more for unlocked ones :) )

Apparently the unlimited data is only until the 1st October - so I've been told...
