Credit Checks etc.

Hello :)
I'm wanting to start a contract with O2, or maybe 3 on release day (or before if I can), however I've just turned 18 (in April) and I have no credit history, which is apparently a bad thing. Does anyone know how likely it is that i'll be refused and left completely disappointed next Thursday, or if I'll be asked to pay a deposit or something. I'm on the electoral roll and I've been living here for about 8 years now.
Also, I reserved an iPhone 4 (32GB Black) at the Apple Store in Newcastle for collection on the 24th, how does the whole contract set up thing work in the apple store, is it network reps in there or are the apple people trained to set up contracts/credit checks etc. I'm trying to work out if I'll be better off going to a phone shop for this whole credit check thing.
I'm worried and confused, this is why I'd love to pre-order, pay and everything now, and just go and get it next thursday :p

Im confused, I took out an unlimited data allowance contract 14 months ago (it was a 24 month contract) I have 10 months left but o2 are going to cut the unlimited data from my contract?? does this mean I can just cancel because they have change the terms?

Decided to wait a little.

Unlocked my iPhone from O2, gonna wait and see for all the contracts etc announced by the 24th, if none take my liking, take out Vodafones 12mth Sim free for £20, with 600 mins, 3000 texts and 1Gb data. Get £100 cash back, put that towards the iPhone 4 from Apple when its back in stock (Mid July i reckon)

O2 usually ask for a deposit for this sort of thing. I turned 18 in March and I've been running SIM only contracts up until now, so I'm hoping Vodafone will accept me with no problems.

I was in the same situation when I got my 3G. They may ask you to put down a temporary £100 deposit, but you should be fine! (I was :) and didn't have to put down a deposit)

I did the same yesterday - signed up for the £15 simplicity tariff thinking this would allow me to keep my unlimited data. However, I then read something in this thread (many many pages ago) which prompted me to contact O2 to verify this. I was then told that this is not the case and all unlimited data tariffs will be capped from the 1st October

if you sign up for simplicity with unlimited data BEFORE the 24th june 2010 you will KEEP your unlimited data for how ever long you have your contract.

Without a copy of my o2 contract in front of me I assume the wording of the section regarding 'fair use' will allow them to simply state that 'fair use' is now set at xxMb and that the 'change' to data capping will merely be them excercising their contractual right to cap those who exceed 'fair use'.

Anyone seen any new info from o2 on whether we will litterally be cut-off if we reach our limit or whether they will simply charge for extra data used.

I'd really rather have the choice about intentionally going over the limit (and grudgingly paying extra) if I really need to send an important e-mail but I've reached the cap!!!

I can see it was your first ever Apple product. You know now that they're quite compact and you don't need to bring that big trolley with you next time? :D

It's a pram.

That it is :) It's just a small stroller by McLaren. Apple don't make them yet :) I brought my two year old son to his first ever iPhone queue. You can't see him, because he was impatient like that.

That was last year. This year he'd probably be quite content to sit with me playing, "Car game on the iPad" as he's come to think of Real Racing HD as his favourite new toy!

Is that Bluewater, will you be going there next week?

Festival Place, Basingstoke. I think I'll be going there next week. I haven't decided yet, but it's my default location :)

Looks like the queue will be going one way for O2 and the other way for Voda judging buy your picture lol

I expect judging from the pre-order fiasco that demand is equal to, or greater than the iPhone 3G demand. However - there are more locations to purchase one. This particular shopping centre has at least one phone shop for each of the networks, plus CPW/P4U and an Apple Reseller all competing with the O2 store that had the exclusive for the last three years.

what would I need to take with me if I started a new contract with a different network?

Proof of identity, address & signature ought to do it. I'm thinking any two of passport, utility bills, drivers license. Something to pay with.

Bit concerned here!

On the left is the SIM O2 gave me at the start of my 3GS contact, on the right is some old Orange SIM.

The O2 SIM's contact area is around 2/3 that of the standard SIM. Any ideas if I'll still be able to micro-SIMify it?

any way that apple can somehow convert my launch-day reservation to be deliverd...say if i phone a certain department or the store and make a payment over the phone. willc all them and ask at the store but they are very busy :-(

I too was told this by O2 Customer Services the other day.

It is impossible to know the true position when some people have been told otherwise.

This is my worry. On a 30 day plan, and I know some already answered my note about o2's site and the small print about Unlimited Data and October etc saying that existing plans are honoured. Looking at the wording again makes me wonder. It clearly states ALL plans will finish in October. If it is finishing in October I might as well spread the cost of a handset and get another contract.

I give up really, think I will wait a while until more questions are answered.

OK - another post on SIM cutting.

I just got a couple of free T-Mobile SIMs to practice on, and took the O2 SIM out of my 3GS just to compare and the two SIMs are very different!

The T-Mobile SIM has a very rectangular active area with three segments on each side and one in the middle. Cutting this to the microSIM size would be no problem.

HOWEVER, my iPhone O2 SIM (originally from my 3G), which is the one I would need to cut down has a much bigger, almost square, active area with four segments on either side and one in the middle. If I cut this down to microSIM size I'd have to cut some of the active area as it's bigger than the microSIM size.

Up till now I wasn't worrying to much about the microSIM thing even though my iPhone 4 is coming straight from Apple, now I'm thinking I'm going to be reliant on O2 sending me a microSIM beforehand and I think the chances of that happening are ZERO.

So if you're planning on taking a knife to your SIM come the 24th, you might want to take a look at it first!

Oh, just noticed your post, that's the opposite of what I just posted. I think the modern SIMs with the smaller area will convert easily, it's the old bigger ones (like I've got in my current iPhone and need to convert) that I think may be the problem...

Hello everyone.

Just finished talking to a Vodafone rep named Barry on their online live person chatroom thingy.

They don't have any news on when Vodafone will be getting the new iPhone. In fact, he was quite suprised when I told him tha o2 have released quite a comprehensive list of tariffs and prices. He went to check for himself.

This post is for all the two people, like myself, who are on Vodafone.;)

Yes this is what I've heard as well.

Apologies for quoting myself but...

DAMN!!!

I guess my best chance now is to try to get O2 to transfer my account to a new "normal" SIM that I can them trim down. Wonder how soon they'll be able to send me one, don't think they'll be busy at the moment do you?
