Hi guys. I have a bit of a dilemma. Sorry if this has been asked & answered but there are alot of posts to read through!

I have pre-ordered a iphone 4.

Im currently on t-mobile contract. They havnt got a clue and cant send me out a microsim! Im really worried about cutting it down as I had a three micro sim through today to use as a template and the actual gold contact is smaller on a micro sim card!

Dont know what to do next.

anyone else have any luck with orange getting a microsim sent to them?? i ordered one yesterday and the woman at the time said she has sent me one....but i was getting paranoid reading through all this and not really seeing many other people doing this........so i phoned them up to check it had actually happened....and yes she definitely has sent me one which was shipped yesterday and will take up to 4 business days.........bit relieved really, thought i may have been fobbed off!

Okay guys I have some good news for the people who have O2 UNACTIVATED iPad micro-sim cards.

I have an unactivated O2 iPad micro sim card so I decided to try and transfer my O2 number to this new sim card using the swapmysim.o2.co.uk
i entered all the information required and after 14 hrs the old sim stopped working, i popped in the micro sim (with the adapter) into my nokia phone and YES it worked! I managed to receive a call on the number and the micro-sim worked!!!!! So try it might work with you guys!!!

DAMN!!!

I guess my best chance now is to try to get O2 to transfer my account to a new "normal" SIM that I can them trim down. Wonder how soon they'll be able to send me one, don't think they'll be busy at the moment do you?

I requested a new sim card online last night and got it dispatched today.

If you look over the last two pages I tried to answer that sort of question. In might be an idea to wait before cutting it. The carrier that will come with the iPhone 4 will help as a template if it's the same as my iPad 3G.

Guys! Do we know if its possible to downgrade your contract/tariff with o2? And at what stage?

Yes it is possible, and I guess it depends on when your contract runs out.

I literally just got off the phone with o2, changing my £35pm to a £15pm Simplicity deal. But my contract on my 3G had run out so I was free to do so.

Although I seem to remember when they last changed tariffs, I think around the time the 3G came out, they gave you a chance to downgrade.

Best thing to do is call o2!

To everyone STILL going on about O2 capping your data on existing contracts, why dont you print off thier OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE HERE to give you all peace of mind!

Use a highlighter pen on "Existing customers will continue under their present terms, unlimited data usage with an Excessive Use Policy."

Stop listening to the poorly trained call centre staff

In case they were to change my unlimited data i changed from a rolling 30 day contract to a 12 months simplicity plan to guarantee i got unlimited for 12 months. Once the 12 months is up i'm guessing that it will automatically go back to a 30 day rolling contract. Would i still get unlimited then or will they then switch me to capped?

You'd think that if it was a continuation then i would still get unlimited but ya never know. May have shot myself in the foot by going 12 months instead of sticking to rolling contract. I have saved a further £90 over 12 months though as i get it £5 cheaper for committing to 12 months

Well i thought at the time getting th iPhone 4 sim-free was a good idea and would save me money. So heres what i did:-

Sim free iPhone 4 from Apple 32gb black £599
Then setup a 12 month simplicity plan yesterday for 12 months. Giving me 600mins, unlimited txts and the all important and reason behind the deal Unlimited Internet.

Now i have seen the O2 iPhone tarrifs i wonder if i should stick or cancel sim free and get it through them direct.
Same tariff on contract is 18 months £40, 24 months £35 and the iPhone costs £209
I also see that they are offering until Oct so first 3 months unlimited internet before the cap starts.

My way total cost over 18months is £959 Vs O2 contract £929 (my way £30 more)

My way total cost over 24months is £1079 Vs contract £1049 (my way again £30 more)

EDIT:- i thought everyone will be capped regardless of the situation in October?

So all i am getting really is Unlimited data for an extra 9 months over the O2 contract for £30 and also my phone is sim free too. I was told when i get my iPhone from Apple i should be able to transfer my mobile insurance over to the new iPhone (i hope this is really the case if i got from Apple instead of through O2)

So what do you guys think is the best way to go about getting my iPhone or what would you do? Is there an advantage over either scenario? I thought my way would end up also costing a bit less but turns out £30 more as O2 prices seem really good.
Please let me know and thanks for reading,
iMoo

i know its £30 but with quidco u will get back £15.29 anyway also if u want to stick with simplicity u can get a new contract out on that with (i think ) £20 cash back so it kinda balances out to your advantage.

on top of that your iPhone will be a sim free straight out of the factory from Apple, no messing. right?

Yeah comes sim free from Apple, just have to try mess around getting a Micro sim now. O2 reckon to phone up next week or when it's released to get it sent out. This would delay me getting it by about a week. Shame Apple can't send it out Sim-free so no PAYG sim, but still send out a blank sim of your choice so you can easily transfer over any contract you currently have.
I'm sure alot are having same problems and it's getting annoying now grrr:mad:

Do other carriers do that?

Just had this chat with someone from O2:

Welcome to O2 live chat. Someone will start chatting with you soon.

You're through to Yassir.

Yassir: Hi there. My name's Yassir I am an O2 advisor, may I take your name please?

You: Hi Yassir, my name is Philip

Yassir: Hi there, how are you today?

You: I'm good thanks, yourself?

Yassir: Great Thanks, How can I help you today?

You: I'm looking to get an iPhone from Apple SIM free... what would be the best option available that include mobile browsing.

Yassir: The best plan would be to go for our Sim plans, which we have that are designed specially for the iPhone, Called Simplicity..

You: OK. If I went for that plan, when will O2 likely be able to send out a microsim compatable with the new iPhone 4?

Yassir: You can go for that sim now and when the Iphone has been released as us to send a Micro sim and we will send it to you for free..

You: I'm thinking of alternative options to work out what would be cheapest... the O2 website talks about a Text & Web for iPhone plan (Pay & Go)... will that be available on a sim only plan? I.e. if I have an unlocked iPhone, can I sign up to that Pay & Go plan?

Yassir: You can use the text and web sim, but that's not designed for the Iphone and you will not get the full functions from the Phone..

You: OK. One final question: what sort of web bolt-ons can I get on Pay & Go?

Yassir: No Bolt-ons are available sorry..

You: OK. The new iPhone comes out on the 24th - will O2 be selling them online on the 24th or will you be taking any pre-orders?

Yassir: We will start to seel them on the 24th..

You: Cool. You've been very helpful and thanks for your time.

Yassir: Nice chatting with you. If you've got a minute, we'd like to know what you think of our chat help. If you're happy to answer a few quick questions, click on 'close'. Bye.

Since when does O2 not have a web bolt-on? I'm pretty sure when my 12 month free internet runs out at the end of this month there's an option for a £10 bolt-on...

Oh well, slightly helpful chap I guess.

*How to move to micro SIM NOW*

This is to confirm that iPad SIMs DO work fine!

I received my iPad micro SIM today, went to this page and entered the relevant details, put the micro in its conversion holder, back into the iPhone and its ready to go - site says up to 4 hours to move so will report back when 100% confirmed!)

No issues so I'm ready for Thursday!

Order your micro SIM

activate your micro SIM

done and done :D

Right, took the plunge and ordered an O2 £20 simplicity tariff while they still include unlimited data. I still have 2 months left on my contract so I will be double-paying for a bit, but at least I'll unlimited data after I cancel my more expensive contract.

People keep asking same questions over and over that have been answered.ORANGE WILL RESERVE YOU AN IPHONE 4 FOR PAYG OR CONTRACT FOR THE 24TH, MULTIPLE PEOPLE HAVE CONFIRMED THIS, YOU JUST NEED TO POP IN AND PUT A DEPOSIT DOWN WHEN THEY CALL YOU, PROBABLY EARLY NEXT WEEK.

Glad i didn't even wait for O2. No PAYG at launch and some dodgy pricing...epic FAIL.
