Evening all. Just wanted to give you an update on my situation & hopefully it will help some of you.

I reserved a new 16gb iPhone 4 on Tuesday, direct from Apple, to be collected from the Norwich store next Thursday. I have got 7 months left on my 18 month O2 contract, and am paying £499 for the handset. After trawling through several thousand posts over the last few days, I decided the best thing to do would be to buy the handset, run down the remaining months of my current contract, then move on to Simplicity in February.

I phoned the Norwich store this morning to check my reservation had been received, and after taking my name, the assistant thankfully confirmed this. He also told me that my handset was definitely reserved for the whole day, and it didn't matter what time I arrived in store, the handset would be there for me. He said I should understandably expect some lengthy queues, but did say that there will be two separate queues- one for people just collecting the reserved handsets on PAYG (myself included), and another queue for people wanting to upgrade/sign new contracts.

I then phoned O2 directly to clarify the situation with the micro-sim, and they told me that there should be a micro-sim in the new phone (which was confirmed by the apple assistant), and that it would just be a matter of phoning O2 on the 24th when I've got the phone, quoting the serial number of the new sim, and they would be able to activate it immediately. He also said that if for any reason there was no sim in the new phone, I could just collect one from any O2 shop for free on the 24th.

Feel much happier now this has (hopefully!) all been clarified, & this will hopefully reassure many who have done the same thing as me!

Guys if I want to take out a new contract in my name ( just turned 18, passed a credit check with orange the other day so I know that will be fine)
and turn up with the following :
Driving licence
Bank Statement
Birth Certificate
Letter addressed from me to orange stating the transfer of a contract
orange bill that says my mums name on ( the account that I'm the 3rd party at)
pay slip with my address on
Recent letter from natwest which had my credit card in.. ( it's got my address on)
Passport

Will they be ok?
Thanks
Jack

I wonder if anybody can help, I recycled my phone through: www.sellular-phones.com they actually seem to offer the best price (£280 for 16GB 3G S), only thing is I havnt recieved the money yet and I sent it SD last Thursday, starting to not trust the website at all since its not very popular :S Has anybody used this site to sell an old phone?

i guess all you can really do is try calling/emailing them! i'm in the same situation, but i did it with o2recycle. phoned them, and they said if its not in my account by monday then to phone them back up. but i might actually phone again tomorrow as it has already been 5 days (what they said it would take)

i really hope they aren't scamming you and hope that the money goes into your account soon! :)

Bold...is relevant to my interests

I'm also getting the 499 model, and so glad that it seems to be confirmed that you can go in any time during the day and pick up your phone :D However the bit about o2. i hope apple gives everyone a "blank" microsim to do with what they will but I'm not sure, unless you agree to have it locked to that network. and since o2 aren't going to be selling PAYG on launch, then im not sure. unless apple will actually sell it. but I'm glad that you were told if apple didnt provide one you could get one for free from any o2 shop on the 24th :D

like ive posted before.....if i dont get a microsim from o2/orange on the day, im chopping up a standard sim :)

Thanks your post helped :D

Glad to hear Norwich know what they're doing then! I've got a 16 and 32 reserved there, given theres an O2 store just downstairs it sounds like it'll be easy to get a micro sim too :D thanks for info

Just checked that selluphone (sp??) site - the thing I cant find anywhere is a bricks & mortar address for them. Always makes me a bit suspicious. Hope it goes smoothly. Let us know.

Maybe with the new iPhones coming out, many are using these sites in order to get quick cash and not risk it with eBay. So i'm assuming the delay is down to the fact that they will probably have to check make sure each phone is fully functional before paying out. Doubt they would train and set on more staff as this will be a one of surge of business (untill iPhone 5 :D). I wouldn't worry too much just yet, just give them another call next week bud

Take your bank statement and driving licence, one photo ID and one confirmation of address. There is no need for anything else, also why did you take out a contract with orange if you are going to take out another so soon, they might not pass the second credit check on the iphone as you have just took one out, something to think about.

Anyone out there who pre ordered and used quidco got their cashback yet?
Mine still hasn't gone through :(

Mine hasn't tracked either and Apple Store stuff usually always tracks. If it doesn't, I'll put an enquiry in and see what happens.

Phoned O2 tonight with some questions.

Got a foreign-sounding girl (I'm from Glasgow, everyone sounds like a foreigner - but she sounded Aisan).

She told me my 30% F&F discount dies when I move to a new contract because it's not an O2 deal (it was a deal with my employer + O2). I could haggle with the store rep come the 24th, but I might not get anywhere.

Secondly, she said the O2 Open cashback offer does not apply to iPhone 4.

So, the only way for me to get a discount on the tariff is to brassneck it. I don't think I'll get anywhere - but it's worth a try next Thu.

I'll be getting myself a 32gb 24 month £35 per month deal and my wife a 16gb 24 month £35 per month deal. We've figured out the total cost etc. and the fact that iPhone 5 won't be here until June 2012, so I'm happy with that.

Both of us have iPhones (I have a 16gb 3G, my wife an 8gb 3G). We head off to the States on Friday 25 (where I'll be getting a 32gb iPad), so the old iPhones will be posted on eBay if/when I get back from the Glasgow Fort O2 store on Thursday morning with two new iPhone 4s - and the mother-in-law will be posting them off when/if they sell.

Okay, i know it might be frustrating but I'm sure it'll be worked out :)

i got a pretty reasonable price for my 16gb 3gs from o2. £262 :) I will phone tomorrow and see what they say, as tomorrow will be the 6th working day since i was emailed with a confirmation of payment.

I need the £262 for my iPhone on the 24th haha

That's interesting, I'm waiting for moneysupermarket.money4mymobile.com to send out their pack. They quoted me £260 for my iPhone 3GS 16gb, which was the best deal I could find. However, I'm a little concerned that you have to have to send your phone off before they'll send the money... I was thinking of trying ebay, but it seems like more hassle, and I may not make as much with ebay/paypal fees...

The credit check, was to get a contract transfered to my name.. So didn't actually take out a new contract..

How did you expect it to work? Them send you the money and then hope you send your phone off to them. Thats why I went for O2 Recycle because its least backed by a company that is well known and there website doesn't look like it was put together by a 3yr old like a lot of them do and could just disappear overnight.

Got £270 for my iPhone 3GS which I was quite happy with.

I'd like to find a recycling company who would send you a load of money before you even send them your phone ;)

Never heard of them before. DNS shows a (crappy) residential address rather than a business address. At least it wasn't registered recently and there's a Leicester phone number!

However, no address and no phone on their website that I could find apart from them saying they're based in Derbyshire? Says 'Registered in England' on their site but no company number, no registered office address. Doesn't look like a proper registered limited company to me!

Well you kinda did as you had to have a credit check done to get the contract put in your name. I would ring Orange to make sure, hope you get one though.

Just tell them you have transferred a contract to your name and by doing so a credit check was conducted and if by doing this has it harmed your chance of being able to get another contract on Thursday.
Believe me on the paperwork though only two forms of ID are needed, one photo and one paper with the address, ring Apple if ya want though.
