When I went to pick up my pre-order (that wasn't even there because of a CPW cock up) I waited in line from around 7AM. They opened at 8AM.

I live near a small-ish village and thats where the CPW is. There was a surprisingly large queue come 8AM.

So I waited 1 hour to be told that my phone hadn't arrived. I was angry.

@CD3660.

Thanks for that I was just going to check with someone on here. I rang Apple Trafford the other night and was just told if you've reserved one, one will be here.

It'll be interesting at the trafford centre to see where the queues are - I think all of the carriers have stores, plus apple, phones4u and CPW. Wonder if any of the others are opening early...

So like a few other people... I will be waiting outside a phone shop (in my case o2), this will be the first time ive picked an iPhone up on launch day... now i expect a queue... just wondering how early these queues tend to start developing...... im going to a fairly big City centre branch of o2 so i expect they will have a fair amount of stock.... I was planning to arrive about 3 hours before opening time... is this gonna be enough or would people advise i went even earlier.

I know this is a near impossible question to answer so im more hoping that those who have queued on launch days in the past will be able to advise :D

Thanks

I queued for the original iPhone 3G 2 years ago at my local O2 store, not very big, but it was due to open at 8am, normal opening time was 9am.

Anyway, I got there at 6:25am - there were 4 people before me and my friend.

They decided to open at 9am in the end!! Only 5 iphones turned up!!

Luckily I got one, but my friend didn't.

I would say 3 hours is about right, if you REALLY REALLY want one.

It can be quite a fun experience, but also very exhausting with the standing up - if the floor is dirty! Take a drink or two, you will get very thirsty.

Also, have a back-up plan in place, perhaps if the queue is too big, get over to anther O2 store, or even a Carphone Warehouse, that's where my friend went, and there were no queues at all when he turned up there. THINK what others are NOT thinking - until now, when i've told them :)

PS: I think 3 hours is not early enough for this launch, what with the dates on the US and UK Apple Stores shifting to 14th July. I really do think there will be much much bigger demand for the iPhone.

/good luck.

Hey guys.

Quick question.

I chose to reserve and collect from the Trafford Centre on the 24th.

You know when I sign in to my my Apple ID and look at my reservations for that store should the iPhone show in there or is that just for services such as Genius Bar and One 2 One?

At the end of the day I have my email and I'm getting there early so I have as good a chance as anyone if not better!

Just put me at ease please.

It's been checked over the past couple of days, basically it's a seprate reservation system. Nobody's is showing up on the website as it's for the fixed 15 minute appointments (with a personal shopper in the case of reservations) whilst this is the first time they've held things all day for people popping in at any time so it's a completely new system.

If you want to be sure you can phone them and they should have access to that system now but they've been asked a lot recently and basically yes if you have your reservation email you should be fine.

What time are people getting to the Apple store at Meadowhall, was thinking of getting there around 7 but thinking now i might have to get there a lot earlier, plus will the entrance be the one on the 1st floor between red and yellow car parks. Can't wait for this launch, 1st time launch day at an apple store whoop! :apple::apple::apple:

This isn't the first time... iPad uses this system also

Well even though I have one reserved I think I'll be visiting the o2 store in Barnsley. If I go to apple it will be about 1-2am.

Don't worry though. If I buy one from Barnsley I shall cancel my reservation.

It makes sense for say CPW and Phones4u to open early. They are both doing PAYGO no?

Anyone out there who pre ordered and used quidco got their cashback yet?
Mine still hasn't gone through :(

Most retailers won't track until pre-orders are shipped, and even then it can take several days for the payment to track.

Realistically, you're possible not going to see anything in Quidco till maybe as late as early July (if you have delivery on 24th), and that's just tracking - payment can take a couple of months more.

Quidco is a slow process, you just have to be patient. I've never had an Apple transaction declined. Sometimes the tracked transaction gets cancelled in Quidco but a new one appears which they pay out on, especially with iTunes purchases.

Anyone here going to be at the Glasgow store? If so have you reserved or hoping to to purchase iphone from general stock? If you have reserved, what time you going down? If you haven't reserved, what time you going?

I'm going to try get a lift in and maybe be there when doors open, will this be okay since i have reserved? If not i could walk from my house to the store, could leave at about 6am and get there for around 7. What would be better do yous think?

For one reason or another, mostly being the service providers not pulling their fingers out in time, I didnt order a phone from apple to get delivery on the 24th...

It now says delivery by 5th July but do you think i would be able to walk into my local apple store between the 24th and then and pick one up or will they be all out of stock for a while after launch day?

I was thinking maybe 26th or 27th?

24th: you might get lucky if you're early enough and are willing to queue.
25th+ not a chance, IMHO.

What are the chances of me intercepting a shipment and sneaking onboard to get one?

Well I'd say only an Apple 'fanboy' would ever dream about doing it, and only they would have a chance. :D

Some of the guys from the iPad launch tracked the planes down and everything. Better than MI5.

Ive got 2 iphones reserved at Trafford Centre but im not going to get there until about 5pm, anybody have any idea what will the queues be like then?

My guess is that it's unlikely but not impossible that you'll get a phone at launch day at an Apple Store. There are two possible ways that you might get one:

1) Apple stores get some additional stock of unallocated phones, over and above the ones that people have already reserved for pickup. The queues for those are likely to be horrible.

2) Even if Apple only ship pre-reserved phones to their stores on launch days, i.e. none available for walk-in customers, there might still be a few people cancelling reservations and I assume Apple would make those unwanted phones available to customers.

I just might be one of those people cancelling my reservation. If I can get an Orange pre-order for collection at my local shop on 24th then I'd rather do that because it's more convenient to get to but I'm going to have to be 100% sure of the Orange system having not screwed up so I might even wait until I have the phone in my hand before releasing my Apple reservation at about lunchtime on the 24th.

I don't think there's anything wrong (immoral) with me doing the above because someone will still be able to get my phone who otherwise wouldn't, and it will be someone who has queued for ages, so its not like people deliberately denying other people phones by ordering two for themselves and then selling one on ebay. If I also went and collected my Apple store reservation then that would be wrong (in my view). I just hope they would release my reservation for sale on the 24th though so I don't deny someone the fun of getting a phone on the first day but, even if that doesn't happen, someone will still get it on the 25th who otherwise would have waited until July.

EDIT: Just read you said AFTER 24th. So my scenario 2 is still potentially valid.

I haven't seen much about this but - am I right in saying that the o2 and Vodascum websites will get absolutely hammered on launch day with people ordering new contracts & upgrades online?

Given then demand we've seen for sim-free models, how quickly are these people ordering online actually going to see their phones - are we talking mid July or perhaps late July? As someone who isn't going to queue at an Apple store...... I'm worried!

Can anybody remember how long it took for the iPhone 3G/3GS to come back into stock after they launched? I'm at Glastonbury when the phone comes out, and probably won't be buying one til the 30th... providing they haven't sold out...

I'm in the same situation. Might try to sneak out during the day, but might be a bit obvious!

So long as they are true to their word, we should be able to get our reserved phones up to 10pm. I hope the networks upgrade systems can cope!

Hey Guys,

This thread has really taken off, it seems to be pages and pages longer every time I check it.

For the people looking to get one on launch day - Has anyone thought of Tesco for the iPhone launch? If they stock the handsets then it could be a good place to try - 24 hour openings so you get to queue in a dry warm environment, for the xBox launch they set out chairs and brought drinks for people and kept your place in line if you needed to pop to the loo and the best part is not many people think of trying Tesco because they are to busy trying the high street stores.

I know people can only guess on this but my Upgrade with T-Mobile is due on the 4th of July, what are my chances of getting an iPhone 4 on my upgrade date???

^^ :apple:

I can not imagine Tesco's will be stocking the iPhone in-store.

Not a bad idea if they did. Do my shopping at the same time :)
