This isn't the first time... iPad uses this system also

It sit corrected. It seems relatively new, at least, and they don't seem to have got around to integrating it with their online facilities.

Ive got 2 iphones reserved at Trafford Centre but im not going to get there until about 5pm, anybody have any idea what will the queues be like then?

Can't imagine there being a queue by that time? It'll probably just be at opening time. Give it an hour or two and you'll be able to stroll in as normal I reckon.

I was just thinking about queuing at o2 until I realised they might not even be selling the phone offline!! I will have to give them a call to see if they are

So I will be off to Milton Keynes at about 6am to start queuing for my reserved iPhone. I am queuing just so I can possibly get a white one. Anyone else going to be there?

I'll be there at some point during the day. Probably to pick up a microsim. Though I can't really imagine the queues dying down til much later...

Anyone want to estimate when online orders will start shipping?

Where will you be getting your sim from, o2 or Apple? I hope Apple will be doing sim swaps for people who are just buying them simfree.

Also I haven't been to the MK Apple store before, even though I live down the road in Luton. But if a major Apple store was to be getting a white iPhone will MK be on the list, or do you think it's too small of a store and it'll be going to the bigger stores?

(Read: I am not asking if the white iPhone is coming out!)

Something off topic

Just to ease the wait for the other prices:

I'm looking to get an unlocked ip4, i didnt order one from apple because i wanted to see what the networks had to say. What do people think is my best option for getting one soon? I dont have the option of queueing up for hours (even if i wanted to). I could probably pop to a shop at 9 briefly or lunchtime or 5pm either thurs or fri.

Do we know if cpw or p4u will be doing pre-orders?

I wouldnt mind paying for a pay as you go from orange as long as the phone is unlocked because i would still use the sim for orange weds and whatnot. Have they announced if they are doing PAYG pre orders?

Do we know/think PAYG phones from the networks will be locked?

Long term my plan is to get a simplicity one month contract but i dont mind if i dont have it on the day as long as i have a payg sim or something so i can still play with the phone!

Any input appreciated! Please let me know though if its just opinion, or fact or opinion based on previous launch!

I am aware that at this stage i may be screwed till mid july :(

Also what are peoples experiences with giffgaff? Their tarrifs seem too good to be true or am i missing something?

RE Tesco: I dont think they are going to have it for a while? Sure i read this somewhere.

Are you paying for O2 premier insure? If so you are entitled to a brand new handset not a refurb! That's how it was with my 3G anyway. There were 2 types of insurance, the difference was that the expensive insurance guaranteed a new handset. When I claimed I got a brand new sealed box. Call and give them hell.

I am paying for insurance premier but it says in the T&C that they reserve the right to give us reconditioned iphones as a replacement.

I don't mind, i think it's fair enough but at least make sure it works! Don't give me broken ones.

I'm going to see apple genius today, maybe they'll help somehow, and if not I'll go to the O2 store and complain

Apple need to sort their staff out, and stop them from giving misleading or false information in their stores. I really expect more from them.

Some may remember that i posted earlier in the thread from last nights visit to an Apple store that O2 had put a block on upgrades on the 24th via Apple stores.

It turns out from my 3rd call to the Apple store in as many days, that this isnt actually the case. However, the rep i spoke to on the phone, said there was no clarification on how the upgrades would actually be handled in store and they are expecting updates from the carriers later this afternoon.

I felt like finding out who the Apple rep was that gave the misleading information.

yeah...not a chance! The only place you can get an unlocked iphone is at the Apple Store. You're not gonna be able to just stroll in at lunchtime  There may be some non-reserved ones there but they'll probably be gone by 9am!

No need to apologise; whilst it's dissapointing that someone from Apple appeared to be as ill informed as some of the teleco store staff, the lack of corroboration from other Apple & teleco staff strongly suggested that it wasn't true.

Now that we are getting tariff and iPhone cost info from different carriers, does anyone think that the vodafone leaked prices seem to be a little inexpensive? I recon they won't be that good when they are released, but who knows.

If they did stay the same, I would have a tough job finding a reason not to go with them. What's their coverage like for signal strength, 3g, inside and out?

Currently using iPhone 3G with Vodafone sim only tariff.

I just rang them up stating that I have pre ordered iPhone 4 from Apple, but will need a microsim.
Guy spoke to said they will be sending me micro sim today and I should have it on Monday. Just got text confirming delivery too :)

Frustrating isnt it. I guess its because there are so many variables involved here, its easy for an Apple rep that might be slightly mis informed (chinese whispers) to give incorrect information.

Ironically, we made 2x visits to the store that evening, and the 1st rep we spoke to was confident everything was alright. The 2nd rep was the one that told us that O2 had blocked upgrades.

Fingers crossed all the various problems are ironed out by next Thursday, and the whole upgrade process is not a complete shambles. And lets hope, there isnt a repeat of the 8:02am system wide failure from the 3G launch.

It was said at some point that all new ip4's could be unlocked which was why i mentioned the PAYG idea. It doesnt seem to make much sense to me for it to not be unlocked, isnt oranges PAYG 32gb only £20-30 cheaper than unlocked and you will obviously have to top up as well making it more or less the same price.

Also i didnt mean i expected to rock up at lunchtime and get one, i more was saying that those are the times i could maybe go in if i could pre order one from either a carrier or cpw/p4u.

It's a shame O2 aren't doing that - I've tried but all I get is the standard line: wait until launch day... seems like that's the same response people are getting from Orange too.

I'm tempted to leave O2 and go to Vodafone one one of their SIM-only plans.

When I went to pick up my pre-order (that wasn't even there because of a CPW cock up) I waited in line from around 7AM. They opened at 8AM.

I live near a small-ish village and thats where the CPW is. There was a surprisingly large queue come 8AM.

So I waited 1 hour to be told that my phone hadn't arrived. I was angry.

@CD3660.

Thanks for that I was just going to check with someone on here. I rang Apple Trafford the other night and was just told if you've reserved one, one will be here.

There seems to be inconsistencies depending on which Apple store you talk to. Some are saying definitely, some are saying first came first serve. I'm hoping we'll be fine. Just worried about the u2 upgrade situation, as that's my plan B!

They can be unlocked, but I don't think you'll be able to get one on PAYG and have it immediately unlocked. I'm not sure how long you have to stay before they do it. And I'm also not sure if Orange are friendly about unlocking.

GiffGaff

No experience yet, but I've just ordered a SIM from them to go with the unlocked iP4 due next Thursday!

They don't offer micro-SIMs as yet, but are at least tolerant of users cutting down the normal SIM.

If you register for iphone information on the o2 website, you will be sent a micro-SIM. when you get the micro-SIM, you can transfer your number by yourself online, using their website, simply by entering the serial numbers of the SIM cards on the webpage provided.
