Ordered a free iPad microsim from O2 two days ago. Ita arrived this morning. Used http://o2.co.uk/mynewsim to switch my number onto it. I'm currently a Pay Monthly customer on the iPhone 35 deal. Got a message saying everything was fine and that the microsim should be activated within four hours. Cool!

Emperors new clothes

It will be quicker, or operate properly unlike previous versions, but the main feature of video calling is useless as its dependent on wifi. Wherever you have wifi your going to have your laptop most likely and it is limited only to other iphone 4's? thats rubbish.

The main problem with the iphone 4 and all previous iphones is the viewing size of the screen, far too small and makes viewing the web impractical and a waste of time.

If they wanted to really advance it make a 4 or 4.5 inch screen on it then you could actually use it for decent web browsing. But they will probably do this a few months after you have all shelled out half a grand for something you already own essentially because steve jobs told you to and you are his cult slave.

lol

Yeah. Not much love amongst the networks for PAYG.

Right now Orange looks to be the only one with a good chance of doing PAYG at launch and, although I'd give over 50% probability of Orange PAYG at launch, I still haven't seen anything absolutely definitive from Orange to say that they'll have PAYG on 24th. Has anyone else?

No idea yet, but I'm en route to an orange and CPW store. Will find out , maybe!

Asked tmobileukhelp on Twitter about micro sims but still no news. Not looking forward to cutting up my sim next Thursday.

Anyone else gonna be at Lakeside apple store?

Just called O2. They're adamant that the stores will have micro-sims on Monday or Tuesday next week and O2 customers can pick one up in store as soon as they have them in stock.

I'll feel happier when the website says this too because O2 staff can be right ********s when they want to be.

Yeah, it does look like they'll have something prepared for early next week. Certainly judging from their Twitter feed, anyway.

I wouldn't hold your breath...I did that 18 hours ago

We haven't yet had confirmation from a Simplicity or monthly contract customer that this works...its confirmed working with PAYG customers but thats it so far....

That said...keep us up to speed!

damn missed the boat again, now the delivery from apple.com is 14th july!

Surely there will be more stock in the retail stores before that and I will be able to pick one up? If there will be there isnt much point in me ordering off the website....

I assume that was instore? Just phoned the Leamington Orange store and they're still not taking any pre-orders. They were all set to start taking pre-orders last Tuesday then they were told not too.

Anyone else pre-ordered from an Orange store?

Yep, went in there first thing this morning, they all have a lockbox filled with raffle tickets and official Orange preorder cards. The two Orange stores in the Merry Hill centre in Dudley have taken over 1,000 preorders between them already!!

It's a Mobile Phone, not a brick - How big do you want it?

If you want to use it as an productive device for big tasks then use a Laptop/Desktop...

Is it true that O2 have changed their iPhone Tariffs so that it's now 20p per MMS?? At the moment the £35 a month contract I'm on counts 1 MMS as 4 SMS's which seems reasonable...I send a fair few MMS's so this may be the deal breaker for me and send me scurrying to Vodafone!

It would seem to be true, same for sending text messages from abroad. Only question is whether this will also be applied to existing contracts or just new/upgrade ones.

Hi all.

Can anyone clarify that a PAYG iPhone bought at an orange store will be locked to their network? I've got an O2 contract but missed out on the pre-orders with Apple. Would like then to get the handset at Orange (cheaper than Apple anyway) and use my O2 sim if possible.

I do have separate Orange PAYG contract (for Orange Wednesdays mainly) so I am a customer of theirs. I spose it depends if all iPhones are unlocked and if they need to be activated instore. Any info would be much appreciated...

Oh, also do we know if Orange are getting the PAYG handsets on the 24th. Apologies if any of this has already been answered, I'm struggling to keep up with the thread!

Can't say this bothers me. 3 have had video calling (over 3G!) for 7 years and I've used it a grand total of: once. Just to test it. That was it. As this chap says, who wants to see an up-nostril shot of me (or indeed any shot) when making a phone call unless they are very badly deprived of human contact, living on the moon or something.

Not very British :D

The screen is probably the killer feature, closely followed by the HD camera.

Yes, and they could call it the iPad

I got the same message... still not switched over though.

Seems to just work on PAYG sims.

Wait, you can do this? I thought iPad sims and iPhone sims were different?

Here's my understanding - with active SIMS there's two factors - the physical SIM itself including its electronics, and the mobile account associated with that SIM. I think it's the iPad account that's not compatible with the iPhone, as it's data-only (same as any mobile internet SIM).

However, if it's an unactivated SIM (i.e. there's not yet an account associated with it), then one SIM is the same as another, so there's nothing stopping you associating an iPhone contract with it.

This is just my understanding based on what people have said on here about their own experiences, as people do seem to have got previously unactivated iPad SIMs working in their current iPhones (with an adapter of course!)

Right that kind of makes sense. I have an O2 sim in my iPad now but I have never used it for any 3G data or signed up for a data plan yet. Does that mean it is activated?

Wish O2 would sort out this micro sim mess, I can see myself having to cut my sim on thursday.

Probably best thing to do would be to try here, though people on here are still waiting for the transfer since yesterday, even though the confirmation message says 'within 4 hours'. I've kind of lost track if this has worked for anyone yet, but you've got nothing to lose as long as you've got an adapter so you can use the microSIM in your current phone.

Oh, that's assuming you have an existing active O2 SIM though!

I don't like how Vodafone and Orange package their 'iPhone' Sim-Only Deals. They should be able to get the Normal Sim-Only Package for the cheaper price, if not then cut the sim.
