Oh crap, are you coming from far? I dunno, I might aim to be there for 7am-ish and just take my chances.

Have you guys reserved? Can't we all just agree to go down at 7:45 :D

T-mobile

I've just had the best phone call ever. i called T-mobile to ask about when if ever we could pre-order on their network. They told me that they obviously didn't know anything and to register my interest on their web site.

Next, they said that they would be calling everyone who'd registered. When I asked them if that meant say 100,000 people had asked for information and to be called that they would call everyone and they said yes.

I tried to pint out that you'd never be able to call that many people, they were adamant that they could. It was a real computer says no moment. I didn't laugh, but it was very hard.

If we're queueing at O2 on thursday, can we just wait until then and get the micro-sim/iphone4 together, or would it be wise to get a micro-sim on monday? & is this all O2 stores do you know?

I've been into 2 shops have both will have them available on Monday so you would think that all stores would have them. Might be worth checking with your local store. I'm pretty sure that they will keep Micro SIM's aside for all phone sales but if your passing a store on Monday then pick one up anyway I say!

I've got the pre-ordering thing sussed now:

<Ring Ring, press numerous buttons on your phone etc, hold for x amount of time etc etc.>

Rep: Hi, My name's Jeff. Welcome to 3fone2-mobile, how can I help you?
Me: Hi Jeff, my names Gullible Geek, and I have a couple of grand I'd like to give you.
Rep: I can help you with that Mr Geek.
Rep: What would you like in exchange for the loot.
Me: I'd like an iPhone 4 please, if that's alright, pretty please.
Rep: I'm sorry, my company are so badly organised we can't take money from you today. Please sit in front of your computer waiting for an email and call us back when it arrives, along with thousands of other customers.
Me: Why can't I just order it now and we can all get back to more important things?
Rep: Because you can't.
Me: Erm, that's a bit silly isn't it?
Rep: Is there anything else I can help you with today.
Me: Erm probably not.

<Click, brrrrrrrr>

No, despite many of them saying that you could about a week ago :(

Still though, it's nice to know the tariffs beforehand, so we've got time to decide which we want to go with. I just wish T-Mobile and Three would hurry up now, it's almost as if they're waiting on each other.

I've got the feeling t-mobile will let orange have all the stock and limelight for the first few weeks and when they get it, will only offer it on upgrade for high value customers before offering deals on new contracts.

Can you use these to buy apps? As it says music on the card and there's a separate one for apps?

It's an iTunes card, not a music card or apps card. Its just different packaging. It just loads into your iTunes credit, and can be spent on anything through iTunes - movies, music, apps, books, etc.

Just went into my local Apple store (Solihull, Touchcloth) and got told that if you have a phone reserved they'll keep it to the end of the day. He said that although the store shuts at 8pm if there are still people needing to be served they should carry on until everyone is 'processed'. The one thing concerning me slightly was his comments about O2's gateway software and whether it would fall over or not on the day... He said they had 200 people queuing for iPads a few weeks ago and rolled his eyes as if to say 'sad buggers'!

Nipped into the O2 store around the corner and had it confirmed that they should have microsims in 2-3 days before launch day.

What time you planning on getting into Touchwood for? I was thinking originally of 7:30am, but now im thinking, get up a bit earlier and queue from 6:30 as i need to be in work for 9-9:30am. :D

Good news about the microsim potentially coming monday/tuesday.

I was speaking to O2 this morning and told them I bought my iPhone 3GS last year and my 12 month free web/wifi was coming to an end and would have to start paying £10/month for unlimited web. I asked them if I get my iPhone 4 directly from Apple, would I be able to transfer my existing Pay & Go tariff (Your Country) to the new phone and continue to pay £10/month for unlimited web... his answer was no and that I would need to buy the iPhone from O2.

Is this just an uninformed CS agent or do you think that will indeed be the case? I was under the impression that we would be able to transfer an existing tariff onto a new microsim.

I also asked about pre-orders and he said they would start selling online on the 24th, but at this point he wasn't sure if there would be online pre-orders.

ha ha yea, although realistically, won't be there for that time either. i'm based near the limerick side of Tipp so it is a long drive for me. but i figure it will be worth it as it looks like the demand will not meet the supply so i'd say Ireland's release date will be put back. Seeing as i've already sold my 3gs and on a nokia 2323, the sooner i get the phone, the better!

Spreadsheet now updated with Vodafone.

Only real diff to the leaked prices is they have done away with the "Free Vodafone to Vodafone calls if you preorder" and theyve upped the handset prices by £30.

Enjoy

According to the Engadget comparison that someone kindly linked to - http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/18/how-to-figure-out-the-best-value-iphone-4-contracts-in-the-uk - Vodafone and O2 are in the same ballpark in terms of total ownership and sometime O2 is (marginally) cheaper)

For me (32GB, 600 minutes, 24 months), all the carriers have the same total cost of ownership. O2 works out £10 cheaper, but Orange gives you 250MB more per month and Orange Wednesdays, and Vodafone gives you 500MB extra.

Question is, do I want 1GB of data, or Orange Wednesdays. :)

Hi,

As we all are aware by now, the only differences with the tariffs is the data allowance.

What are everyones thoughts/opinions on the networks retaining business? I could phone o2 and say I am leaving because I want 1GB data. My average is approx 600MB a month and that includes things like meebo, facebook and downloading apps. I wonder if o2 will give me the extra 500MB add on for free to stop me from going to Voda.

What do you all think? Part of me feels they will take the attitude of 'do you want to be with o2? If not then go elsewhere and get your iPhone'.

Just an update on my Micro SIM post. Apparently if you get one in store it won't come with the adaptor (to make it normal sized) but if you're one of the lucky ones that gets one in the post then it will.

Who's going to be at the Brent Cross store next Thurs?! :D

I'll be there. For the 3G launch i was 3rd in the queue at 8am, O2 system was broken almost immediately, didn't get out the shop with a phone till 5pm, and my phone wasn't actually up and running with my number for another 2 weeks.

Hope O2 do a bit better this time!!

I think that makes about 14 of us from this thread alone then! And just so you all know, I won't be leaving that store without an iPhone!:D

Also, I'm just curious, it may have been answered before, but what do you have to go through any sort of credit checks or anything before you can set up a contract? I'm only 19 so I don't really have any sort of financial proof of income or utility bills etc. Thanks!

with most of those sold being sim free hopefully those problems won't happen again. in theory i should be in and out of the shop in 5 minutes.

and in related news unicorns have been spotted on market street :D

I think they will run a check on you but I know students and people who are unemployed and have still been able to take out phone contracts so I don't think it will be too much of a problem, just take a bank statement, a Driving license/passport or both and a pay slip from work if u have one.

i was told by someone very helpful at O2 (rare i know) that you can transfer you tariff onto a micro sim...either via Itunes or by calling O2

Who remmebers OhMac? LOL.

They'll pull something again me thinks.

Ah yes I was an OhMac guinea pig! Got an O2 locked 16 GB 3G for 245 pounds without contract, which was practically unheard of at the time!

Sold it for 205 a few weeks ago. It will be interesting to see if they manage something this time around :)

i thought if you got an unlocked iphone from apple, you could get a microsim, or cut up an old one and use it in the iphone with whatever payg tariff u want?

I'm gettin it unlocked from apple, and was going to go askin for microsim from o2 for PAYG, and if not i was going to cut up the sim im usin the now. so will this not work :S? or is it just the bolt on u mean??

I was there, and a couple of spaces behind you!

I'm going to both CPW and Apple store this year, bringing a friend to queue at CPW for me.

What time is it opening this year you think?
