I was thinking of doing the same, if i request a PAC code but decide in the end to stick with o2 it dosent mean i have to leave does it ? as i dont want to have no option.

PAC is valid for 28 days... if you dont use it, it just resets and nothing changes

if you don't use it within 30 days then your contract will continue as normal. mine took about 24hrs to arrive by text.

Possible solution to O2 microsim swap

Hi all, long time reader, decided to finally sign up (after major disappointment with the 13" arrandales:mad:)

Anyway, I'll be collecting from Meadowhall as early as possible. I'm hoping to be out within an hour as I have a plane to catch later that day - wonder if its possible with it being a sim free collection :confused: I've seen a few mention they're off to meadowhall.

I recieved my free iPad microsim from O2 yesterday, and like others, it wouldn't accept it on the swapmysim.o2 site. I again filled in a request on the o2/mynewsim site and nothing has happened. So I figured I'd try a different method:

I'm guessing its because of whatever account is active on the microsim which is blocking the straight swap (not the SSN, but the account linked with it);

Using the swapmysim site, I've put in a transfer for my MICROsim onto a very old, unused O2 sim (It says must be activated by Jul 07!!! - never been used). I used the oldest one I could find as I'm guessing that is a completely virgin sim - no accounts linked at all;

Funnily enough, the swapmysim site accepted me inserting the SSN of the virgin sim (It's NOT a microsim) and is currently transferring over;

Hoping this leaves my microSIM a virgin, i'll then try it all again but with my simplicity contract onto the microsim.

I'll certainly be posting back, but I'm guessing it could be upto 8 hours (two swaps x 4 hours).

They said it has a 30 day expiry on it so from my understanding you have 30 days to use it or you stay on o2 as before.

I just rang up O2 and asked for my PAC based on Vodafone's having come out with their rates/costs, and to see if O2 would offer free Bolt-On of extra data (to match Vodafone's) but the guy I spoke with said that they can't do anything until the 24.

Still told them that I wanted my PAC code nonetheless. Not really wanting to change Networks, but I don't want to get lynched with the possibility of spending extra each month on Data. (prefer the peace of mind of not having to worry about it much).

I have reserved a pay and go for collection from west quay apple store in southampton, does anyone know if it would be possible to change to a sim-free unlocked instead? With the unlocked, its a case of just paying and leaving, simple as that right? i.e. they don't have to open it up for you, make you buy credit, faff around with sim cards etc.

I'm also assuming/hoping there is a separate queue for people with reservations, and that it will be considerably shorter than for walk ins..

Vodafone (unofficial) reservation

I went into a local big Vodafone shop and asked about pre-orders/reservations. I got told that they woudn't be taking reservations, and they probably wouldn't have stock in on Thursday. Said 'thanks' and walked out.

Then walked into a tiny Vodafone shop round the corner and asked the same question. They're doing unofficial reservations - i.e. they've been told they'll have stock (but not what colour!) and are taking names and requirements. When they get the stock (on Wednesday) they'll match names against stock, in order, and will call to confirm whether they've put one aside. Any left over will be sold to people coming in on the day...

Very sensible local shop management, I'd say.

So, I've got two reserved - one of each colour - and am looking forward to their call on Wednesday!

TT

Any fellow Belfastians on here?

I'm with O2, so there's no point queuing at an O2 store seeing as they reportedly won't have PAYG stock on launch, so that just leaves the Apple store. I can imagine the queue there will be... fierce :(:(

Oh and I should mention I'm gunning for a white one... Just to make it more difficult for myself :D

Theres a few of us from Belfast on the forums here. Im upgrading my contract with o2, would change to vodafone but there 3G coverage isnt so good.

Have iphone 4 reserved for collection at the Apple store, so will be down early, around 7am.

I filled in the other day the request on o2 website for interest and to get a microsim. I thought I would ring also on Tuesday just to check the position and the guy I spoke to and explained what it was for. He seemed to know what he was talking about and said that he would put a microsim in the post to me. Was excited at lunchtime to see an envelope from o2 but when I opened it it was just a normal sized sim!

I rang the customer services and was told that o2 are busy processing the thousands of requests they had for microsims and that they were being posted today and in next few days to most of those who had registered interest. Not confident its going to come.

When mentioned Vodafone the possibility of adding a 12 month contract at a higher price (seeing as both 18 and 24 month ones are on the same handset price) they said that "The packages are set in conjunction with Apple".

Does this mean that Apple dictates the prices in a way?

o2 site says iphones will have micro sims in them. You then go to a page on o2's website and type in your phone number and new microsim number and it will transfer your number.

Thanks Boyced, think they mean the phones bought from them will have microsims.. Am getting mine from Apple. Although, when I phoned o2 a couple of days ago they said it would be fine if I'd bought the phone from Apple, I could then pop into an o2 shop and pick up a microsim if one hadn't already arrived by post.

Problem is everyone says something different!

I think that makes about 14 of us from this thread alone then! And just so you all know, I won't be leaving that store without an iPhone! :mad::D

Also, I'm just curious, it may have been answered before, but what do you have to go through any sort of credit checks or anything before you can set up a contract? I'm only 19 so I don't really have any sort of financial proof of income or utility bills etc. Thanks!

I got my 1st contract with o2 in 2003, I was 18, think it was £15 pm. I had apart time job at the time and was still in school, all I needed was 2 utility bills with my address on it (dont believe it has to be a bill, just a formal letter with your name and Address) and ID.

I was there, and a couple of spaces behind you!

I'm going to both CPW and Apple store this year, bringing a friend to queue at CPW for me.

What time is it opening this year you think?

I remember the dude behind me, he was an app developer playing super monkeyball, was that you?

It was a crazy day, I left the store to go to work at about 10am, they said I could come back when the O2 gateway came back up, i called them at about 12.30pm and they said orders were going through so i came back and saw all the same faces sitting there from the morning! O2 never came back up and we did them all by hand till 5pm, by which time I was on first name basis with most of the staff. I got some funny looks at work on the Monday!!

When I reserved online the email confirmation said they would open at 8am.

Mikey, completely left field question here - do you happen to be a glens man & drink in the moat in Dundonald?

I was just thinking the same, but then what do you do after the 18 month? either get next years iPhone 5 when it's only 6 months to iPhone 6 comes out, or go onto SIM only for 6 months, which'll probably work out more than the 24 month contract would cost you now. Tricky decisions.

How will that work out to be more? if you take out a 24 month contract now then you will continue to pay £30/35 a month for the duration of the contract where as if you were to go on to sim only for the last 6 months then you'd only be paying £15/20 for the remaining six months at that point.

Just changed to £20 02 Simplicity plan for 12 months, as someone previously mentioned about the 30 day contract could break my unlimited data option

I get 600 free minutes, unlimited txt and data for £20, previously I was paying £42.50 because I got a phone with it! So I am waiting on the 02 microsim as I signed up pretty damn early when they announced their plans so I should be in the 50k threshold

Only thing now is to get into work early on Monday & Tuesday so I can get the morning off on Wednesday!

Milton Keynes, white iPhone (crosses fingers) HERE I COME! :apple:

*ponders over 16gb & 32gb*

Wow, Wednesday morning?

You camping?;)

Is it me or is it annoying that O2 are still offering unlimited data with the new Dell phone and not the iPhone.
