Hi,

I've been on O2 since 2008 on Pay as You Go (iPhone 3g) and I've just seen the new eligibility terms for purchasing the new iPhone on June 24th.

If you're on PAYG does this make you an eligible mobile customer?

I've tried phoning o2 customer support and local stores but both say different things.

I'm wanting to move from PAYG onto contract.

Thanks

PAYG O2 iPhone 4's wont be available on launch day. So no.

yep if you are an existing customer in any way, e.g. broadband, phone: payg, contract, then you can but be quick! :)

A few questions:

1. Will Phones4u be selling o2/orange iPhone 4's for contracts on the day?

2. Will they take preorders? Are any stores taking preorders?

1. Mine (Hereford) is, and says they all will be. Of course, it's just the word of their sales staff.

2. Again, mine did for a small (£5) deposit - 32GB black handset on Orange PayM for me... 8am opening.

How would you prove your a current O2 customer on PAYG?

If you're on contract then you'd be able to take in a copy of a bill, PAYG has nothing like this.

You registered with O2 when you bought your PAYG iPhone.

Surely you have? What do you do to get your free 10% topup credit back, money off a new handset and the other extras O2 PAYG offer you on their web site? Or are you unaware of these offers?

A fellow Magherafelt man here. Was in the city today. Went to o2 and Apple in Victoria Square as well as o2 in Corn Market. Positive news call round. Apple however did say that they reckon they will only have enough stock for the pre orders and not much more.

Stuart told me that the Apple store in Belfast has got more pre orders than any other apple store in the uk. I was quite dubious about this but then whenever he mentioned the fact that loads of southerners were coming up to pick up the unlocked phone, then I thought that that was quite plausible.

I was able to confirm that my reservation had been received. And that I could call anytime on the 24th to pick it up.

Also o2 have plenty of micro sims in stock but unfortunately are not allowed to hand them out until Monday at the earliest.

Stuart, the apple assistant told me that the white ones will not be available thru apple as they are going to be solely available to certain networks, of which o2 will be one.

Crap!

So whos up for camping overnight ?lol

Will Apple stores have Micro SIMs for the major networks in store on Thursday? I have an iPhone 4 16GB reserved and am upgrading using £20 early upgrade deal...Thanks!

Just take your phone and sim down to the o2 store and they will believe you, if not they can check, they have records of all numbers on their network and top ups/balance :) I will be doing that on monday or tuesday :)

the phones from apple are sim free so unlocked so you can use with ANY network but with NO sim so looks like you're gonna have to go down to the stores and try and get one, o2 is looking promising for monday :)

Ahhh.. I see! So I should just be able to tell them my phone number and they can draw up all the information about me? - then I'll show them some photographic ID to confirm my identity.

Apple are just selling the handsets. You will have to go to a carrier's store to get the SIM.

You can get your micro SIM now, as they have been around for years. Unsure why Apple makes them out to be new technology.

hmm they may have, but you might find you have to go to your chosen network supplier and ask for one, and even then they might have to mail it to you. I suggest you call your contact centre this week and get them to ship you one with your account ported

You'll need ID to get the contract anyway. Unsure what they need, ask O2. Usually photo ID, a bill with your name and address etc.

Latest rumour in the T-Mobile HQ is that Apple cocked up the distribution for UK service providers, meaning they think T-Mobile won't have their iPhone 4s until 28th June... Apparently this problem is not limited to T-Mobile as well...
bad times!

Hey guys can someone help!? Been away due to Exams!

I'm on O2 and want to buy a PAYG iPhone, dont mind forking out the other extra money for the Apple Store ones as they're factory unlocked.

However I haven't been able to reserve so will their be any available on the day for me to buy?

Thanks!

From all reports it's been very very popular this time. So your guess is as good as mine. Best idea is queue as early as you can.

Phones4u are taking £5 deposits are they are guaranteeing the pre-orders for launch day. I've called around at least 7 stores locally and they are all saying the same thing.

I've checked over and over and over again and they are saying that an iPhone 4 will be guaranteed for launch day.

Also they are taking pre-orders for the 32GB but I they have all told me they are not taking pre-orders for the white iPhones!

It's been 3 years since I was on Three, and at the time I wasn't really impressed.

I don't know if they have sorted it out, but when you used to leave a 3G coverage area, and go into a 2G area, calls were dropped and had to be remade. I found this on three handsets from Nokia, LG and Samsung so ruled out it being a hardware issue.

For the areas I live, work and play, I would put 3G coverage as;
Vodafone > Orange > T-mobile > O2 > Three

so quite a different experience to you.

I do however feel that T-mobile is very good across europe so if you travel a lot, worth considering.

Site says yes, in-store people have given mixed answers and tbh with the service I get from O2 as it stands I decided to go from O2 PAYG to Orange contract instead of staying with O2. I may just buy factory unlocked (also in White whenever it comes) so then holidays to France and Italy will be covered without having to take my crappy Nokia with me :)

This makes me worry they might run out of stock for reservations, especially with the rumours that there's been some supply issues.

Will I be able to set up a new O2 contract in the Apple store when I get my reservation and will they give me a micro sim? Or will I have to set up a contract beforehand and just stick my sim in the iPhone?
Edit: sorry, meant reservations, not preorders
