£30? They're joking - I would have told them to P**s off and demand a PAC Code.

This was probably 10 years ago... on Orange.

We were quite drunk, he had this *lovely* Nokia 3210 and it went like this:

he said "I don't like my phone anymore"
me "Pass it over here a second
me - take off back cover
me - take out battery
me - nom simcard (they're quite chewy actually)
friend speechless

Next round of drinks.

Yet if he'd lost his phone or had it damaged in an accident he'd have had the whole thing replaced for nothing, as back then Orange card had no excess etc (those were the good old days)

The full size ones can also be referred to as USIM (my old 3G Sony Ericsson referred to the sim as USIM).

According to Wikipedia, USIM actually refers to the application:

"The use of SIM cards is mandatory in GSM devices. The equivalent of a SIM in UMTS is called the Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC), which runs a USIM application"

UMTS is the 3G system used in the UK and most of the world.

Ah right, although in the post I was replying to he clearly used it in the context of it meaning microSIM so I was replying to that, thanks to those that cleared this up as i was unaware it could mean something else.

Lower case u as in uSIM would acceptable when referring to a microSIM I would say, and for full marks people could use μSIM. Or just microSIM ;-)

LOL - but chewy?

Ah true, good old days :)

You, sir, have made my day!

I reckon that your so called friend that works for O2 is BSing, O2 staff don't know anything about anything, yet alone 'Limited Stock of White in 32GB'.

my friend told me who works for o2 (warehouse) that they had shipment 2 days ago, mostly black and limited white though he did not know what GB's. he has seen them and described the packaging also to be like the packaging that the new magic mouse comes in

You, sir, have made my day!

The plastic's quite chewy, the sim contact part was like biting tinfoil... but after 15 glasses of bourbon it didn't bother me.

Glad I've made someone :) Just done 12 hours of callout fixing some damn equipment in Hong Kong! Now off to hopefully enjoy my first Father's day with my 9 week old daughter in what's left of the sunshine.

I hope everyone gets what they want on the 24th :) Looking forward to getting my hands on one myself

Where abouts is the greggs entrance? I'm thinking of 5-6am. Going to stay over at my sisters, she lives not far from Manchester centre.

There's three Greggs in the Arndale! One of them is near the entrance opposite the Printworks, one in the middle, and one near the entrance on Market Street more or less opposite Tesco Metro. I reckon it's the last one they'll use. I'll check tomorrow though. You still saving me a place? :)

Has anyone in the UK had their orders cancelled like the front page news spot? Seems like it's only happening to our cousins across the pond to be fair though.

If you have a look at this page: http://www.apple.com/uk/iphone/specs.html it shows a picture of the packaging, it a box just like the iPhone 3GS but with a different design on it. Nothing like the magic mouse packaging which is clear plastic like the iPods.

Happy Father's day :p ouch, 12 hours .

your friend must be lying because the packaging looks like this

directly from the tech specs part of the apple website :D

I dont know then mate but thats what I was told by him unless the box's we in other case's I dont know???

He is pretty reliable so have no reason not to believe him, he helps unload deliverys so knew what they were as soon as they arrived and text me to deffo tell me they had white in the warehouse

I just got back from Regents Street Apple store.

4000 people have a reserved iPhone 4

the guy wasnt quite sure how they will cope.

PS: I just bought a MacBook for the misses and never really used one before. I am a complete computer geek but MacOS is fantastic! No wonder people love Macs

OMFG it's going to be a nightmare at Regents Street. Still don't understand why Apple didn't make some attempt to allocate a preferred pick up time to stagger the demand. 4000 turning up for reservations first thing in the morning is going to lead to chaos given they've got to sort out contracts etc as well. As it's a work day I'm in bit of a quandary what to do - employer is flexible but can't take the piss. Maybe do a late lunch and turn up late afternoon, try O2 shops in the morning and if get a result cancel reservation.

So it's either the entrance opposite the big wheel or the one next to the birdcage?

Anyone heard from their Apple shop about vodafone contracts in store? I hope next week we'll have more info, though on the 3G launch we didn't know until the morning! Calling at 9pm the night before was useless as no one had a clue what was going on!

Hopefully Regent Street, being the flagship store as well as the place where most London city boys will be hoping to pick up an iPhone on their lunch break (good luck with that, by the way), is going to have a lot higher reservations than any other stores.

That said, I should probably phone my local store to see what will be what on Thursday. By the looks of it the stores that are opening early are doing so only for iPhone sales, no other customers will be allowed until standard opening hours, if this listing on the Apple website is anything to go by:

Store hours:
Mon - Wed:9:30 am - 6:00 pm
Thu:9:30 am - 9:00 pm
Fri:9:30 am - 6:00 pm
Sat:9:00 am - 6:30 pm
Sun:11:00 am - 5:00 pm

iPhone shoppers can stop by the store early:
8 am on Thursday, June 24, or
8 am on Friday, June 25.

I have a phone reserved (according to my emails, anyway...); now I need to think should I get there for opening, join a queue but get it out of the way, or pop in later in the day when things might have quietened down a bit? One of my mates who queued for the iPad certainly recommended queuing (but he works for the Apple Store in question!).

I will say to those who are not sure about waiting for the white iPhone, wait if that's the colour you want. I waited for six weeks after the 3G came out to be able to upgrade to a white one but it was worth it because that was the colour I wanted. Don't rush out to buy the iPhone in black if you'll only regret it for 18-24 months afterwards.

You would think that after 3 years Apple would be well prepared for such an event but clearly not. Either they need to pull their finger out or perhaps it's just to create even more hype?? If it's the latter then that's just ridiculous! This isn't the second coming nor is it the return of Elvis or Michael Jackson. And why is Apple mum on the whole issue??

I won't be one of the suckers buying the iPhone 4 straight away (remember what happened to the first lot back in '07?). I've reluctantly decided to wait until my contract is up next March. I'm eligible for an upgrade in September but it would mean being stuck with O2 for another 2 years and I'm not happy with their 3G performance and overall network reliability. Right now my options are limited but next March they'll be wide open - I can choose from Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, 3 and even Virgin may come on board; and I'm sure by then visual voicemail will be available on the other networks. Plus I'm sure by March they'll be talk of the iPhone 4S with 512MB memory and 64GB storage so the old adage rings true: Good things come to those who wait! :)

If it really is a Greggs entrance then it won't be the one near the wheel. Either the birdcage or Market Street. Big Wheel entrance would make sense though as it's the closest to the Apple Store.
