Went to o2 store this afternoon and never a ruder pair of staff are you likely to meet.... They were not even aware that that could even star handing out micosims tomorrow... I was told to come back on Thursday and they would see what they could do... When i asked them to have a look at their own web site with ref to availability from tomorrow i was told they were too busy... and i was the only customer in the store....

I've had that from the o2 store in Southend. No idea what a Micro Sim is and tried charging me a fiver for an iPad Sim.

Explained that Customer Services advised me that they would be available from Monday in store and they had none there.

Ended up just calling o2 and cancelling the contract explained my reasons why and they said they would arrange to send me one in the post, I've transferred onto a 30 Day Simplicity tariff and if they don't send me one by Tuesday then will transfer to another network.

End of the day were talking about something that costs less then 50p to make and o2 and other networks are going to start losing at least £330 a year (£15 Simplicity deal).

It doesn't take a genius to work out they need to get there act together and quick.

That's a relief! So if we're buying from an Apple store, there's no need to get a microsim beforehand then?

i've ordered my microsim from o2, if doesn't arrive in time, so what, i'll get one from apple on the day. i think its a good idea to make sure you have everything covered, just in case.

am i not right in thinking a week or so ago when o2 launched their iphone 4 coming soon page.....

did you not get an option to register interest????? and within that option was an option to put in your mobile number so they could send you a micro sim?

or did i dream all this up :D

They did but it said they may send you one. They are apparently sending them to the first 50,000 that signed up.

I think it said 'We may send you a micro sim'

Not we will.

Ok then you'd be best waiting for the iPhone 10 or even iPhone 20 as they will be LOADS better than the iPhone 4
No the iPhone 20 is no good; I can't believe you didn't hear about that. Steve advised me to wait for the iPhone 21. He said that it will "float" in mid air and there's no more touch - you just "think it"

Apple will own you before iPhone 20, they will do the thinking for you.

I'm on Orange UK and have been told I need to call the 'Registrations' team tomorrow. Apparently I have to transfer my iPhone 3GS contract over to an identical cost iphone 4 tariff and THEN they will send me out a micro-sim. My contract length will still continue as normal, which is one thing. Still a f*cking pain in the arse.

Cheers Orange.

i'm with orange on a sim only deal......phoned them wednesday.....i had to go on the iphone tariff which was £5 more....but they sent me a microsim straight away and i got it yesterday......transferred my number over straight away and now i have it running in my old phone with adaptor ready for thursdays delivery!! orange were good to me :)

I've reserved my iPhone at Meadowhall but have some questions about giffgaff.

My main question is to do with coverage. Using O2 signals am I right to say that if I get five bars of EDGE coverage with O2 it'll be the same with giffgaff and the same with 3G too?

I'm just cautious as while I know they are owned by O2 they are a company that next to nobody has ever heard of. Their offer is just too good...
Their signal is exactly the same as O2's - both 2G & 3G (even HSDPA). I've been really impressed by them - and even had the opportunity to see their head office a couple of weeks ago as they needed an extra person to join them on a charity golf day they had been invited to and so they asked for a volunteer on the community forums.

Spoke to Meadowhall Apple Store where i reserved my iPhone,
they told me that if it's reserved you're guaranteed it'll be kept aside that day for you, but they expect the pre-reserved queue to be a number of hours long, so get there early or you could miss out.

Also, they told me that they will have O2 micro sims there to set it all up.

Wat, so the reservation line is going to be long??
Surely if my reservation is going to be kept all day then I can just turn up at 11am?

If you're buying from the Apple Store, they will transfer you to a new micro-SIM and renew your contract in-store. That's what I was told when I rang them up.

Also, who's subscribing to MobileMe? Is it worth it?? I like the idea of being able to remote wipe your phone if it's lost/stolen. Is there a way to do this without paying for MobileMe?

You weren't dreaming - they did state that. However, I think they also said that not everyone would receive one.

Am I right in saying you are buying the iPhone SIM-free?

MobileMe is definitely worth it in my opinion. I've had it since the .mac days (a name I wish they'd kept). It does cost a few quid a year but you get an awesome push email service, loads of online storage, ability to locate/wipe iPhone (as you say) and best of all is the sync'ing (& hence backing-up) of your important info like contacts, email & bookmarks (assuming you are a Mac Safari user). I also, use the iWeb and have some webspace with my own domain name.

Hope this goes some way to helping you decide its value. :D

Just a quick question.....this will be my first iphone but i have owned an ipod touch for a while (2nd gen).......now......i have bought a load of stuff on that.......but is there a way to transfer stuff from that to the iphone?? or is it impossible and just best to start again?

I would also agree. Very much worth the £60 a year or whatever it is.

Really worried about the talk of lines at Meadowhall being hours long.

I should be at the store by 4pm - what should I expect? I do have a reservation so they should have held a handset for me but what about the line at that stage in the day?

yea i bought it from apple online store.....delivered thursday hopefully!

Cool. I'm in the last 2 months of my Orange contract and am now eligible for upgrade. I've reserved one for the 24th for pickup at the Apple Store in Brent Cross, London. I rang them the other day to ask whether i can upgrade (renew my contract and get my number etc transferred to a micro-SIM) in-store and they said they would be able to do it.

However, I'm noticing that a lot of people are already getting their micro-SIMs from Orange in advance... I assume this is because they are buying (like you) SIM-free? I just don't want to get caught out when I turn up to the store on Thurs and then they're like 'Do you have your micro-SIM?'

when you plug in your new iphone it will ask if you want to restore it from a backup of your iPod Touch and you will have all your apps and music and videos ect.

Exactly the same for me! :) and yep you can transfer all your purchases to the iPhone, as long as you use the same iTunes account :)
