Excuse the ignorance. If I were to obtain a micro-sim from O2 store, would I be able to register it with Orange and indeed transfer my Orange contract to the micro-sim? Or are each carrier micro-sims only programmed for there own carrier?

I can't get a micro-sim from my carrier (Orange) as they are being right arses

Hi guys,

Been fascinating reading all the excitement. I have just a little query that someone may know the answer to.

I have a phone on pre-order from Apple Store, Regent street. It says you'll need a utility bill as one piece of ID. Now my name isn't on the bills yet. GF takes care of it.

Would any other ID be ok, d'you think?

Thanks in advance for any help. :)
If you have a bank statement, that would do in place of a bill, according to someone in the Manchester Arndale store.

I too will be going to a o2 shop today while I am out and about to see if they cough up a Micro Sim.

Will let you know how it goes!

I went to an o2 store this morning with my apple confirmation print out - they gave me a pay monthly micro sim no problems - and took just a few mins to get transfered over on the website.

It did that on me what i had done was entered to many number the last four which have letters in i think it was you do not need them Should then work mine did my number was moved over in 15 mins

Thanks mate, but I haven't entered those last 4. Appreciate the advice though :)

I'm speaking to O2 now......I'll let you know what they say.

I would have thought that it will work with O2 only, some people have had luck getting a Microsim though from Orange.

i'm not an expert so this is just my assumption: No. Not possible because every sim probably has a 'unique identity' which is logged with the carrier before they send it out. When you activate a sim or place it in a phone, it has to be one of their's in order for you to receive their service to you i.e. your call/data plan. i could be wrong...

Where are these rumours coming from that the PAYG will be released a few weeks later then the contract ones?

On the O2 website it says you can still get the iPhone 4 on PAYG but doesn't say it will be after launch day?

Considering that the Three blog is moderated, I find it interesting that they let this one through:

Is it true ???

iPhone 4 (16GB) — 24-month-long contract
- Handset FREE (!!!)
- £30/month
- 300min
- Texts ‘unlimited’ (3000 ?)
- Internet ‘unlimited’ (1GB)
- 3-to-3 ‘unlimited’ (2000min ?)
- FREE Windows Live Messenger chats
- FREE Skype-to-Skype calls
- FREE Voicemail

Of course, it still means nothing officially, but it makes you wonder why they approved it and didn't comment on it.

Went to o2 this morning and picked up a micro-sim.

Entered details on http://www.o2.co.uk/swapmysim and just keep getting:

"Sorry, there's something wrong with the serial number you entered. Please re-enter your sim serial number."

So I'm guessing they've given me the wrong type of sim :(

If I remember rightly, when I got my 3G it just had to be anything with your address on it! So bank statements, utility bills etc.

Just ring where ever you are going and query it. Best to do it now instead of getting down there and being turned away.

It would be seriously tempting to wait until the 26th if this was true.

My guess would be that your assumptions are correct... there was a post earlier (from yesterday I think) in which someone thinks that the iPhone will come with a sim that isn't network specific, but I don't think that's possible, unless apple have a log of the sim serial numbers that it sends to the network you choose to use it with.

Cutting my old SIM down to Micro Sim

Hi Guys

Very interested to read everything on here, so I just thought I would mention what I am doing, I have a Sim free Iphone 4 reserved at Apple Store Solihull Touchwood for collection on the 24th. I will then cut my existing sim down and carry on using that. I am on a o2 Simplicity tarrif with unlimited data.

I will also be able to use the sim in an Ipad, where as if I change from my normal sim to a Micro sim but on te same tarrif, It will be considered a new contract and won't work in an Ipad and will only 500mb of data.

I enclose a link for how to cut the sim down for anyone interested.

Just spoken to O2, and there's a problem. The 2 sims that I picked up are both for the iPad and as such won't work on the iPhone. They are in the iPhone micro-sim packaging, but they're not the right ones.

According to the very apologetic girl on the phone, they have had word down that some of the iPhone packs have been sent out with iPad sims in them. She didn't specify whether it was the ones sent to the stores, or if people getting sims delivered will encounter this.

Bottom line is......if you collect a micro-sim pack from a store...get them to make sure it's for the iPhone, and not the iPad. She has advised me to have the store phone customer services to check this before leaving.

I got 2 sims picked randomly, so I'm hoping there's not a problem with the entire batch.

Hmmm...both of my micro-sims are saying "Sorry, there's something wrong with the serial number you entered. Please re-enter your sim serial number.".

Looks like I'll need to call O2 :(

Try entering only the first 19 numbers, omitting the 3FF1 at the end.

EDIT: We posted at the same time! I see that you have got to the bottom of the problem.

This is turning into a disaster for both O2 and Apple.

They just let it through to keep us fools on the hook!

Very interesting bit of information, thank's for posting that. It's a bit worrying how they lock the IPCC contents though. Does it mean sim free isn't quite as sim free as we think. It sounds like that unless you have the IPCC installed for the carrier then you can't manually add them. So if Apple haven't included the IPCC for my ASDA mobile PAYG sim then I wont be able to use it.

Good news about Three and possible free tethering though. That will beat a lot of the opposition, provided they get their package out in time (cough. Are you listening Three).
the IPCC doesn't lock the phone it just contains the carrier information, if you installed that ipcc on a sim free then stuck a different sim in it would work all the same except you would need to put the details in to the cellular details section to make sure it worked properly.....unless they are an official carrier then u wouldn't worry

I seem to have the same problem, see my message a few posts up.
Mine came in a white envelope with just a piece of paper saying "On your marks...", the sim was glued to it and a sim-adapter was taped to it.

Just picked up my SIM from O2 - it's an iPhone Pay Monthly and business one! :D So can I do the sim swap now and then put the Micro SIM on it's adapter and in to my iPhone?

Thanks!

Yes you can. I got 3 Microsims from an O2 store on Saturday and they are all up and running in iPhone 3GS's pending arrival of our iPhone 4's.
