Orange

Just spoke to Orange business as our contract is up for renewal. Rep said to call back on Thursday as our upgrade pricing wasn't on the Orange system so he was unable to look at anything. Said we'd have to wait for them, looked it up and said 24 June. I pointed out that was Thursday and he then started stressing from 24 June. Very much got the impression he didn't know anything.

Yes, but lets get a little perspective here.

This appears to be the biggest launch of any Apple product, almost certainly likely to exceed the original iPhone 2 and iPhone 3G launches.

Everybody appears to want one!

I'm sorry what is this based on. It's bigger than the 3GS but not anywhere near the demand for the original iPhone nor the iPad I don't think.

Mobile networks have always been incompetant at everything this isn't a new thing. If you have ever had to call O2 you'd know that this isn't anything new.

However with every iPhone launch I have never had a problem. Original iPhone no problem and iPhone 3G no problem. It's just people getting ahead of themselves and panicking in advance BUT like the other 364 days of the year the people working in phones stores don't know what is going on. Which is why I find it amazing that people can't just read the website comprehend and just do what it says. Instead they ring up customer services who haven't been told what's going on and then whinge about it when the service assistant is useless but the information was there to start with.

Are you sure about that? I just want this to be painless! Was the girl right about being able to set up contracts in-store and paying the cheaper price for the iPhone (i.e. £189 for the iPhone on a 18month O2 contract at £35 a month) as opposed to paying the Apple price tag of £499?

Sorry if these questions seem basic but there is so much conflicting news about this launch.

Yes you will be able to as long as you reserved one ;)

So, on Friday afternoon I went into the O2 store in York to ask about microsims. The chap, who I presume was the manager, told me that I'd have to wait until launch day to get a microsim to transfer my current contract sim onto. I told him that it said on the O2 website that they would be available from Monday (today), and he seemed to have no knowledge of this.

So today, my wife went in with both of our order confirmations from Apple and asked for two microsims. First chap said to some back in 30 mins. She went back in 30 mins only to be told that Pay Monthly microsims would not be available until launch day, it was only Pay As You Go microsims that could be handed out today.

Yeah, 'cause they'll really have nothing better to do with their time than to hand out microsims on Thursday.

Bunch of wank-shafts.

I'm gonna go grab a MicroSIM from O2 at lunch tomorrow. Hopefully the staff will have a clue by then! And apparently today/tomorrow are the days their coming in the post to you if you were early enough with the 'register interest'.

600,000 pre-orders in about 10 hours. 4,000 alone for Regent Street. Apple employees are saying it's the biggest launch ever.

Church Road...

Thanks very much, I meant Church Street, but same thing. May pop down there later. Although I did phone them the other day and the lying buggers said they wouldn't be in until Wednesday.

On a side note, does anyone know whether Simplicity counts as Pay Monthly or Pay As You Go when it comes to getting the iPhone MicroSIMs?

Okqy so it looks like thismlaunch will be the same as the 3G launch, ie. White available only at apple store

Cutting my old SIM down to Micro Sim

What you are saying may only apply if you are switching to one of the new tariffs and getting a subsidised handset.

If your 18/24 month contract already expired and you switched to an 'old' 30 day simplicity tariff and you buy a sim-free phone direct from Apple, you can swap to a micro-sim and not lose your unlimited data. O2 confirmed this to me at least 4 times.

I hope that is the case, but I don't think it is, have you had it in writing from O2, why 4 times?

Yeah even though I reserved I'll be getting there very early! Shame o2 Wimbledon hasn't got theirs, I work behind the Odeon so I think I'll check again at lunch too

Where is the Apple store in Kingston? (in terms of bus/tube/train)

Also, I have been with o2 for ages, but I've never logged into The Cloud or BT Open Zone, where is all the info for this?!

It's in the Bentall Centre. Looks a short walk from the train station, and the Apple website now shows that the store is now opening at 8am on Thursday... but as I want to be at work for 8.45, I'm wondering if I'd actually have enough time to pick up the phone soon after opening. If I do go early, I'd probably only get there 30min in advance to size up the queue...

As for The Cloud & Openzone, all you need to do is open up your wifi and try to connect to one when available. On opening Safari (or Opera) you'll be asked to enter your mobile phone provider and then number. Once you've done it once it (should) apply to all available Cloud/Openzone hotspots... but not all are available to O2 - some are Orange specific I've recently discovered...

I picked mine up from Wimbledon on Saturday. Only one of the guys in the store knew that they had arrived! On Sat they were apparently "under the iPad 3G sims out the back" - I think they were being hidden!

Sneeky buggers! Ah well, they must be out of them now if they're no saying they're getting any in until tomorrow.

White wont be available at launch. How hard is that for people to understand?

I got my sim at Dumfries and they have plenty in stock. Also plenty of PAYG sims as well as she nearly gave me one of those by mistake.

Try a different store if there's one that isn't miles away. I got 2 Pay Monthly micro-sims today by showing my confirmation email from Apple. One of the sims is already active and working in my 3g...

Apple have also said it is the highest number of pre-orders they have ever taken in 1 day on the 15th

Yep, and one Apple employee told me it was going to be mental for at least 3 days after launch at all stores.

And also new stock should arrive at Apple stores about a week later.

4 times... because it's nice to call back and hear the same information from different members of staff. The first time was around 8pm and I got a guy in an Indian call centre. I called a few times during the day and got to speak to natives (Scottish, I believe) and they all said the same thing. Your old Simplicity plan won't change unless you want it to (assuming you buy sim-free from Apple and not subsidised from O2).

Call them and find out for yourselves if you're so worried.

just spoke to my local o2 store.

they're opening an hour earlier (8am) and they will have iPhones available to buy on 24th but limited stock. I can buy one on Simplicity and they will have microsims available too.

no handset prices yet.

I presume it'll be the same for all o2 stores.

That's right, blame Apple for O2's incompetence.

Tell you what, by your logic, I think it's YOUR fault.

You are to blame for everything.

PS: BP oil spill is a disaster, Apple selling out of iPhone 4 is NOT a disaster.

Apple's decision to hide the fact nobody is getting white iPhones and the conspiracy of silence surrounding it is very, very much Apple's fault.

Phazer

Ever since it appeared on their (Apple's) website, the white iPhone has said 'currently not available for pre-order'. Not really a secret.

God, I hope this is true........... *crosses fingers*

You can't buy one on Simplicity, you've been given wrong info im afraid.

Can anyone clear this up for me?
I have a phone reserved for pick up on Thursday and I'm planning on starting a new O2 contract. I thought Apple would supply the micro sims for this but some people are saying you need to get one from O2 first. Wouldn't it make sense for Apple to have the micro sims considering you can start contracts in store?
