Just did the sim transfer online.

Turned my Go Phone on and off, and old sim was dead.

Have put in the new microsim in its adaptor and i'm good to go. Ready for Thursday!

Guys I am sorry, I didn't mean to say that getting a micro sim meant a new O2 contract Ie another 18 or 24 month contract.

But is does constitute an upgrade which means that if you have unlimited data now you won't if you get a micro sim.

To quote O2 website

http://shop.o2.co.uk/new-iphone/tariffs.html

As a new or upgrading customer, you can get iPhone 4 on an 18 or 24 month tariff. Or, you can choose to pay the full Pay & Go price for an iPhone 4 and choose a Pay Monthly simplicity for iPhone tariff.

All our smartphone tariffs for iPhone include Visual Voicemail, up to 1GB of UK data and unlimited Wi-Fi.

If you get and enable a new micro sim then you are upgrading, and will lose unlimited data.

Just to clarify, that last sentence is yours and not part of O2s statement, and you're wrong. Wrong wrong wrong.

If you're a new or upgrading customer and you take out one of the new tariff contracts starting this Thursday then yes, you will lose your current unlimited data as the new tariffs do not feature them.

If you are currently on a tariff of any kind and will be continuing that tariff or contract and you are not ending it so as to upgrade, switching onto a microsim DOES NOT constitute an upgrade AT ALL. All you're doing is switching to new hardware, the smaller sim. Your contract doesn't change and hence your data doesn't change.

What you're suggesting means that by buying a handset that takes a different sim shape and by asking O2 to provide me with the new sim, they get to tear up my contract. That's simply not true.

Mine didn't come with an adaptor, just the larger sim shape that the micro one pops out of when the time comes.

Did you get one of the little black adaptors like on the Apple website?

Can anyone clear this up for me?
I have a phone reserved for pick up on Thursday and I'm planning on starting a new O2 contract. I thought Apple would supply the micro sims for this but some people are saying you need to get one from O2 first. Wouldn't it make sense for Apple to have the micro sims considering you can start contracts in store?

Apple IS likely to have a selection of contract sims in store. However, whether there will be enough to go round is another story.

My view is, they should have plenty if you get there early.

Ignore some of 'the rumours' on this forum, there is a lot of miss-information around.

chop up my existing fat SIM and buy from apple store

I have a 3G on O2 presently. After completing my initial contracted period some time ago I switched to O2 simplicity iPhone or whatever it's called, 20 quid a month, monthly rolling contract, unlimited data.

Clearly I want the new jesus phone not too fussed if I lock myself into a new contract or not; but would rather not. I like not having to worry about data use.

My present plan is to buy the unlocked iPhone4 from the Apple Store on Regent Street - £500; chop up my existing SIM to make it a micro sim and stick it in the new phone. Job done, no contract and unlimited data.

is anyone else planning to do this?
am I missing anything here?
will it work?
is there a better way?

Apple's decision to hide the fact nobody is getting white iPhones and the conspiracy of silence surrounding it is very, very much Apple's fault.

Phazer

LOL

Apple have been open about the lack of white models from the day preorders started. No secret there.

Was going to do exactly that, even have the same tariff and phone as you, except....

Popped into the O2 store this morning, picked up a micro sim, activated it on the O2 web site, popped it in, 2 mins later - old one deactivated, new one activated. Left the microsim in its 'fat' holder, and will remove the fat holder on Thursday.

/i'm ready, are you?

I've never seen these adaptors people mention. Only microsims I've ever seen from O2 come as a normal sized sim with a removable microsim within it. Once the microsim is removed, it would need an adaptor but up till then it can be used as a regular sim.

I guess there's different microsim packs floating around, then?

Why chop up the card?
Just transfer your iPhone Simplicity 20 tariff to a micro sim.
Done.

Yeah, same here.

You pop out the the sim from the card, and within that is another pop out for the micro sim.

Success at O2 Strand

For the benefit of all:

I have just come back from the O2 store on the Strand in London. I asked for a micro sim, the lady took my name, address and a contact number. She did not ask to see any sort of confirmation but I had it ready just in case. I was handed a blue envelope with "Pay Monthly and Business" in the corner and "Your new micro sim" written across the center.

I was also handed a black sim card adapter, this was not in the envelope. She told me to contact customer services to activate it but I just went to the activation website and no more than 5 minutes later it was activated and working in my 3Gs.

I just downgraded to a 12 month Simplicity for iPhone contract several weeks ago.

Hope this helps someone!

Bring on the 24th!

Out of interest what do you need the adaptor for?

I just got back from town, microsim in hand, just porting my number across now.

Went to one of the 2 O2 shops we have here and told the clerk everything and she responded with ‘we have them here, but you’ll have to wait till thursday’ and her colleague said the same.

I was about to stand my ground when another customer who was stood next to me said she was here for the same reason, and we both told them that O2 had said themselves we could pick them up from today.

She went out back to talk to the manager and eventually returned with 2 sims. The woman and I talked about the lack of organisation and communication between everyone with this :p

The clerk had a blank look on her face when I asked if there was an adapter in the envelope, I tried to explain what it was for but I decided it wasn’t worth the hassle!

Anyway, will report when/if the sim works properly, and remember to stand your ground in the stores.

Thanks very much, I meant Church Street, but same thing. May pop down there later. Although I did phone them the other day and the lying buggers said they wouldn't be in until Wednesday.

On a side note, does anyone know whether Simplicity counts as Pay Monthly or Pay As You Go when it comes to getting the iPhone MicroSIMs?

Whoop whoop for the Kingston massive! lol
Went into the Church Street one about 20 minutes ago, came back to work and transfered my number over and worked straight away!
Bring on Thursday!!

Apple Store, Bentall Center, Thursday. Getting there at 7:30.

Just visited my local orange store and they said that they are not taking pre orders or reservations, does anybody know if they will be selling on PAYG on thrusday?

Cutting my old SIM down to Micro Sim

I hope I am Wrong, Wrong Wrong oh and another Wrong

As you are so sure, could you point me to the O2 link that says this, but all said and done, the new Iphone4 sims will not work in an Ipad, and a cut don standard one will work in both, so i'll stick to a quick cut with the scissors to be certain.

So I can get signal on my 3GS for the time being :) I think a major advantage of swapping and transferring now is avoiding the inevitable delays on Thursday when O2's servers start getting slammed.

I guess I could have just punched out the larger sim for now but with the adapter I didn't see the point...

Just call them and find out with your own two ears (well, just one ear really). It's not difficult.

Just been to the O2 shop in the Manchester Arndale. Got my Pay Monthly micro-sim straight away. Just showed them my pre-order confirmation and had it handed to me.

Then did a swap on the swapmysim site and it transferred in about 30 seconds. Didn't even have to switch my phone off! So the microsim is now in my iPhone 3G, all ready to be put into my iPhone 4 on Thursday morning. No messing about, no hoping that systems don't go down. As long as their tills work I'm good to go.

More information about the Arndale Centre in the Arndale Centre Thread.

I had to ask the guy about getting the adaptor. He didn't have a clue what I was on about, so I explained it to him. He then went to see a colleague in the backstore and came back with the adaptor saying "You learn something new everyday!"

Nice chap.

Bloody hell......this thread is moving fast today :)

Finally back from the second store, and I now have 2 working sims......the ones in the blue envelopes. I did however have a few problems getting them. I apologise in advance, as this is gonna be a long one :)

When I went into the first store this morning, they supplied me with 2 sims...albeit the wrong ones...on production of my reservation email.

When I took those sims back to exchange for the correct ones, they said that was all they had. Luckily...we have another O2 store, and they had them in.

I went into the 2nd store, and they said they would only give me 1 sim...even though my reservation was for 2, as they didn't know how much stock they needed to keep in for Thursday. I argued the point that I need 2 as I'm getting 2 iPhones but they weren't having it.

Anyway...I phoned customer services whilst I was in store, and the informed me that store should indeed supply me with 2. They asked to speak to the guy in the store, which they did, but the guy refused to budge.

He handed me back my phone, and whilst I'm trying to speak to the guy at customer services, the guy in the shop was trying to talk over me to tell me that there was no point talking to CS as the book stops with him. As he was talking over me, and I couldn't hear the guy at CS, I what we'd all do, and told the guy in the store to be quiet.

The guy in the store decided that I was now being rude, and told me he wouldn't give me any sims at all. I was then told to leave the store, or they would call security. I told them to feel free.

I stood around for a few minutes trying to find another O2 store in the vicinity on my iPhone, and whilst I was looking, O2 CS called me back.

It wasn't the guy I spoke to before, but someone following up on my earlier call about being given the wrong sims......they were trying to track the stores that had them.

I told her what was going on, and she asked to speak to the manager (I asked earlier but was told he was busy) of the shop. She told them that they should really be supplying me with 2 sims, as O2 have already told customers that they can get their sims from today, but he told her it was upto him as the manager of the store who he supplied what to.

She did eventually negotiate me getting the 1 sim they were originally going to give me, but he stood fast on his refusal of 2.

Whilst he was ringing the sim through, he called the other store to see if they had any in yet (I think he sympathised a little with my situation), and they had just had a delivery, so he got them to hold one for me.

As he was leaving, he felt the need to make that point that it was still pointless talking to CS, as I was still only leaving with 1 sim, to which I replied..."Yes, but if I hadn't called them, and spent time arguing, the other shop wouldn't have had their delivery, and I wouldn't be able to go and collect another one from them." :)

When I wen to the other shop, they couldn't believe it. They said I absolutely should have been given 2 with no arguments.

Anyway...I have them, and I'm now looking forward to iPhone Thursday :)
