I know around 20 Scotland pre-orderers of iPhone 4, all the same - Ordered as soon as site went live, all confirmed for 24th delivery and ALL still 'Not yet Shipped'

I'm not 100% concerned yet, but just has me itching my head a bit.

We know that nobody in the UK (or Europe I think) has progressed beyond "not yet shipped". What we don't know is where they will be shipping from. The assumption is China but the longer this goes on the more likely they are already in Europe.

I called my local (Manchester) Orange store again earlier to re-confirm they'd be holding me one and they said they would, and that they'd be opening at 7. Though that's technically not a pre-order as I didn't put any money down. I'll still be there bright and early to get one though just to make sure! Vodafone and CFW both told me that they won't be doing pre-orders though. It's funny to think that if I manage to get my hands on an iPhone 4 on Thursday morning I'll actually be getting it hours before the Americans! Nice for the UK to get something (slightly) earlier for a change!

I think theres no doubt US Stores will be opening at midnight in some cases, so we won't be getting it earlier. Am I right?

It's really not that hard to understand.

If you are buying an iPhone 4 from o2 you have you buy it with a contract so if you are an existing customer you have to upgrade - simple as that

Yeh tahnks for that bit of wisdom, I think we all know that, what if you re buying a sim free Iphone 4 from Apple and want to put a O2 micro sim in it from an existing contract, is that an UPGRADE

If it's not that hard to understand, please enlighten me, not with hearsay, not your opinion, but an O2 email or web page that explains it.

O2 website says this

"If you're an existing Pay Monthly customer, we have a number of ways for you to ***upgrade*** to the new iPhone 4."

"Customers currently eligible for an ***upgrade*** can easily upgrade in an O2 shop, when the phone goes on sale on the 24th of June 2010."

I'm not sure if that would happen. Surely if for any reason an iPhone 4 was lost in transit to Europe, having the barcode scanned at the various stages/checkpoints would help in retrieving any lost phones - pure speculation though. Then again perhaps we have access to different tabs on our iphones than Apple does.

heck knows

So I have just rang o2 and it is true about platinum customers getting early upgrade phone calls. My friend has just had the phone call and he is now on the upgrade train to get one for Thursday, not fussed as im planning on getting mine in store.

I have no email I will admit, but I have verified it with two people I know that work in o2 customer services up north.

Basically if you're not buying a sim-free but buying in any way from o2 that's an upgrade. Renewing a term of a contract, that's an upgrade.

Sim free + insert of old sim and no new contract on 24th... that's not an upgrade. You'll still just have the FUP on data etc.

Sorry i can't provide you with firmer proof, but I'm not trying to BS you about stock levels ( have no idea nor do my friends who are customer support staff) but we went through every possible way of getting a subsidised handset for me without getting hit with the 500Mb/750Mb data limit and there just wasn't. Upgrade by 23:59 23/06/10 and you're fine. 00:00 24/06/10 and you'll be hit come October.

Transfering to a micro-sim is just like if you lost a sim and requested a new one. Just like the old days where you were sent a sim card the size of a debit/credit card with the pushout for the smaller sim, nowadays they'll probably send you out a sim with the pushout micro-sim just like I have in my hands right now.

Don't worry apple would not allow all of europe to go without iPhone 4's I bet they are all already in the country they just need sending with couriers.

new sim is now in my current smartphone - the switch to micro-sim was quick and easy.

now just need to get my unlocked ip4 on thursday from regent street, pull out the full-size sim and snap-out the micro-sim section, stick it into ip4, whack-on itunes, register...and i'm away!

ps - apple freind of mine says they don't know exactly how strict stores will be in terms of hanging-on to all reservations until close of business. shame they don't work at regent street otherwise i guess my box would have been 100% safe :-(

You're not 'upgrading' via O2 if you are buying sim-free from Apple!

By smartphone you mean you don't already have an iPhone?

quick question....

My contract ran out in March (and has been rolling on the O2 35 on iPhone Tariff since then) and I will be signing up with O2 on Thursday or thereabouts for the iPhone 4.

Will i need any ID or bank details etc when buying the iPhone as i will be using the exact same details as i have always used with O2 for years now???

If you click "manage bolt ons" it tells you when they were added. Whats the picture message enabled one? Are you on the unlimited text tariff? do you pay for picture messages?

Good spot. It looks like it was added last week. I must have missed it when I looked this morning.

I'm on the simplicity iphone 20 deal so 1200 texts, 600 minutes unlimited data. Not sure what the picture messaging bolt on is but I've never paid for an MMS, they come out of my normal texts bundle by the looks of it.

Does it depend on the carrier? In the US they're using FedEx... but have I read somewhere in the UK Apple are using DHL?

They may be using FedEx over here but it doesn't really matter who they use as long as its not Royal Mail.

No more updates from 3 recently. Maybe they're too busy finalising deals to moderate the blog - wishful thinking perhaps ;)

ohh i knew you rickroll'd me *evils*, i just assumed that you knew that i knew that you did :) if that even makes sense...

Ahh ok
<-- Getting old and slow, kind of like the original iPhone

iOS4 will be available today, the guesstimate is at 6pm :) for download.

Trying to decide whether to do the update.... odd as it sounds I don't know whether to wait for the new iPhone, as then there will be more "new stuff" to play with.

YES. You must bring all the usual, i.e. 2 pieces of id, bank details etc. i called on friday to check.

Quick question. I am already on O2 simplicity for iPhone and am carrying it on with them. Does anyone know if they are going to cut down my data usage from unlimited or is that just for new customers?

BUT my mate got a call from a guy last night i cant remember the number, he paid £5 a month extra for volcano insurance... ITS TRUEEEEE believe me ;);) :D bahahah

I bought cloud insurance the other day, complete bargin at £20 a month :D:D

On a side note, my friend got a call from O2 earlier today asking about upgrading to iPhone 4, but instead of saying that they will get the phone on thursday, there is a list of customers in order of highest priority. Because my friend is an O2 Blue customer, they are about number 30 on the list.

When the iPhones come in stock, depending on how many units there are, the first X amount of customers will be told to come and get their phone, if it isn't picked up by the end of the day, the phone gets moved on to the next person in line for pick up on friday...hope this makes sense
