You're not 'upgrading' via O2 if you are buying sim-free from Apple!

http://www.o2.co.uk/assets/O2HybridNav/Static-files/PDFs/O2airtimecontract1.pdf

This is in writing:

3 Length of Agreement
3.1 This Agreement commences, following acceptance of your application by us, on the day on which you receive your SIM Card or, if you do not receive your SIM Card at the time of purchase, for example if you connect to an online tariff, on the day your SIM Card is dispatched.
3.2 At the end of any Minimum Period or following commencement of the Agreement if you have selected a SIM Only tariff, this Agreement will continue until it is terminated in accordance with paragraph 8 below.
3.3 If you upgrade your Handset with us you agree that a new Minimum Period will apply. This will commence on the date that you upgrade.

It is only an upgrade if you are upgrading your handset via O2. It has nothing to do with your sim card.

iOS4 will be available today, the guesstimate is at 6pm :) for download.

A little OT, but I really want to try iOS4 tonight. However...I'm wondering if my 3GS will sell better with the 3.x firmware for jailbreaking etc. I'm not really up on the whole JB thing, so haven't a clue whether it will make a difference :)

Cheers

4.0 has already been jailbroken.

They may be using FedEx over here but it doesn't really matter who they use as long as its not Royal Mail.

Apple UK use UPS or TNT for deliveries. It varies.

As for Royal Mail, I used to work there and theres nothing wrong with it! CityLink is by far the worst

Lots of people have spoken to O2 about this, no one has anything in writing, everything on O2's website talks about upgrading. See the theme

Trying to get through to you here... o2 are not selling sim-free.

You think o2 will publish details of how to detract business from them? Yes you can upgrade with us... or not pay us a penny and buy an unlocked phone from Apple and use any sim you want! Yeah... that'd be a great business idea wouldn't it? They're not going to publish that as a possibility to the consumer, they don't publish that info for any handset. They're in the business of selling you subsidised handsets to tie you into their network with a contract.

Buy a phone from o2 with any subsidised price and it's an upgrade.

Changing a rolling out-of-contract monthly 2G/3G tariff to Simplicity 30d or 12m? That's an upgrade as you're agreeing to a new term.

Wanting to renew a term on a pre-existing 2G/3G tariff that's no longer offered? No can do, you've got to pick a new tariff from the list, which you can't buy until the 24th.. that's an upgrade.

Personally, I think it would sell better with iOS4. Anyway I'm sure I heard somewhere that the Dev Team have already managed to jailbreak iOS4?

Picked up my Micro sim from o2 today and the change over literally took about 3 minutes from cancelling service to activating on new sim card.

Impressed.....

My Royal Mail Postie is now quite Early, but yes expect a variation of UPS and TNT to get all the phones delivered across on the 24th.

As for the Worst, I've come across Hermes (International) who are terrible, 'Out for Delivery' for 3 days. My friend also had their package left under their Car and only realised when they drove off.

In Facejacker voice (the nigerian scammer)....

hello Mr Oililymad, you have been specially selected as our Platinum customer, in order for me to process your FREE SIM, please provide your sort code, and account number here please:

/thank you, your FREE SIM, just for you, is now on it's way.
/enjoy your day Mr Oililymad

Damn... I was just about to impersonate an idiot but you beat me to it... repeatedly!

I'm sorry that you're so upset that O2 didn't choose you. Maybe it's a personal hygiene issue... or maybe you're just not a platinum member.

Give it a rest now eh?

Got my contract SIM today. The changeover is taking a while, though.

Just need to go and grab a microsim and I'll be all set for Thurs.

It scares me when you get a note through the door saying "Parcel in wheelie bin" what if I was away and my neighbor put the bins out!!! :O

Got my microsim from O2 in Castle Court, Belfast. You need proof that you have reserved an iPhone (I just showed them my email on my phone). They weren't very friendly though, so I'd go to Victoria Square if you can

PS. I forgot to say I got a sim adapter too.

By smartphone you mean you don't already have an iPhone?

yep. i have an original touch diamond.

last week i switched from simplicity for smartphone (unlimited data) to simplicity for iphone (unlimited data). o2 assured me i would always have unlimited for iphone as long as i don't change tariff.

i did this so i'm all set for ip4 this week e.g. i will now definitely get visual voicemail, access to wifi hotspots which simplicity for smartphone didn't have...and then there's the very small matter of unlimited data :D

if i had switched from smartphone to iphone tariff ON OR AFTER 24/6, looks certain i would have been plonked onto the new iphone limited data tariffs.

the 'large sim with a micro in the middle' is working fine at the moment in my diamond - can't wait to snap out the micro and sell this hunk of metal to a recycle for cash site...along with me old dusty htc universal...man, can't believe i've been using windows mobile all these years.

My o2 is opening at 0802 on Thu, now I have to decide how early I'm getting there. Not fussed about being front of the queue, but ideally within the first 20 or so would be nice, hmm.

wrong. I'm on 30 day rolling and have been told by several o2 members of staff that I will keep the unlimited.
They legally have to notify you before altering this.

This is true, as discussed MANY times previously in this thread.

True. At some stage in the future they might bring the old and new plans into alignment by capping the data -- but they will have to tell everyone they're doing it.

(They could also cap the 12 month plans by giving you notice, but this would give you a right to cancel the remainder of the contract without penalty.)

I hope I get my phone delivered by UPS, my macbook was delivered by TNT and they kept it in their depot for 3 days and wouldn't let me pick it up.
