Guys,

I did create a posst for this, but it's slipped to page two and without me bringing it back up, I think it's lost. Perhaps someone could help?

Cleaning old iPhone

First up, make sure you do a full backup from your 3G. This means setting up your new iPhone is a simple as restoring from this backup. Don't worry, it won't "downgrade" the iOS. You can then return your 3G to factory settings ready for your Dad.

Sim Swap

Exactly as simple as you outlined. Some of the hardy folks in this thread had their micro-sims working very swiftly after using the O2 online SIM migrator. If you want things to run even smoother on the day, pick up a micro sim in advance. You can always use the sim adapter to use in your 3G until Thursday.

iTunes Sync & Transfer of Data

As mentioned before you can simply choose to restore from your 3G backup, or start fresh and re-pick your music/pictures/videos/apps. Contacts etc will sync once the correct boxes have been ticked. iTunes makes the whole process of upgrading (and restoring if needed) so easy.

Doubt it, basically just means Orange are getting the white iPhone's just a question of when.

Oh, it doesn't mean on launch then? Could mean whenever? Ah, that's rubbish. To be fair, I asked in O2 and she said they'd be getting them in, they just don't know when! Ah well, I'd be happy with black. :)

I was on the phone with Apple Store in Liverpool. And just a few clarifications:
they can upgrade your contract from simplicity & pay&go. they will sell all contracts available with carriers.

Ye, if it is on launch i'll be nabbing one :p, even though I prefer black just for the hell of it lol. As it will be seen as rare lol.

Cheers didn't fancy being at work unable to activate my new iPhone and not have my current one working :p.

No worries. I think we're ahead of the game by doing it in advance of Thursday, when the servers will no doubt be very busy! Mine swapped in less than a minute. :) (Oh - and there's no reactivation required, you don't even need to plug the phone in.)

Sounds fair enough, it's just a farce having to plug the new phone into iTunes to activate it lol.

Fair enough sorry for being so harsh in my response, it's just I don't won't people to be misinformed, sorry again :(

No worries mate. I think everyone is seeing different things, seriously Apple have left so many companies in the dark in regards to availablitilty ect......

Thursday will certainly be interesting to say the least!

All I'm saying is that you seem so certain that just getting a new micro sim from O2 isn't considered by them to be an upgrade yet have nothing in writing to confirm it.

You know, I think you're right... I also don't have anything in writing to say that they don't expect me to slaughter my first born child as an offering to the O2 gods.

O2 send out replacement sims to people all the time. It doesn't affect the contract. Seriously, stop bugging everyone with your paranoia and go speak to O2!!!

Well like I said I was meant to be starting at 8 but however been told by head office not to start til 9 now, yet we have 7600~ stock of phones across 800 stores so not sure what's happening there. But i've been told to be there for 8:30 to help prepare the store for it, so just a wait and see game now, however i'll be keeping mine in the back :D (if we even get any Orange ones?) Seriously no idea what's happening.

Good - because I've just been told the complete opposite by someone working in the Vodafone store at Manchester Piccadilly station! Apparently all contracts have to go through them and all sales at the Apple Store will be for box only units and that if I want one on Voda I'll gave to be there at 7:30! If only there could be one unified voice, would that be too much to ask?!

take that with a pinch of salt. that sounds like a salesmen trying to get all the commission for himself to me

Well I was slightly puzzled when I was speaking to the girl, she was so excited about getting hers but I knew more information about it all than she did!

The stock levels of around 7600 for 800 stores is worrying! However that was only for the 16GB if I remember rightly when she showed me the screen (I may be wrong, correct me if I am!).

I asked her about opening times and she said Head Office had told them to open at 9am as normal, no early openings even thought the iPhone 4 is available to buy from Midnight.

It will be interesting what happens, as myself & girlfriend (I'll be getting 2 I hope!) want PAYG handsets, Im with Orange so I am ok, but with Apple sending them unlocked from their website, it will be interesting to see how the phone providers have locked the units, if they havent come from them, but direct from Apple?!

I'm heading to my local Orange shop at 8am, as no doubt it will be 1 per customer, then up to CPW to get my girlfriends! :D

Exactly my stance. I have one reserved at the Apple store anyway and given that they should apparently be offering contracts, that's where I will be going.

If it's only the 16GB she showed you for o2, that's not too bad as it means there is also the 32GB for o2 and then Orange and Vodafone 16GB/32GB, but like I said, i'm not sure what's going on. Ye head office are playing the game that all networks will sell out by 8:30 so everyone will hang around til 9 outside CPW, that's my guess. I have a feeling they will be fully unlocked as standard now as if you get a contract you are tied into that contract anyway, and if you are PAYG you are happy with that network as it is. But wait and see.

Ever since it appeared on their (Apple's) website, the white iPhone has said 'currently not available for pre-order'. Not really a secret.

"Not available for pre-order" doesn't equal "not available at stores on the 24th", which is what Apple have been giving people the runaround on, seemingly in the hope that people will queue up and buy the black one anyway.

It's an terrible way to treat customers.

After multiple complaints then finally getting o2 customer service to ring the store in York, you can now pickup a microsim. Really bad service almost made me cancel my contract.
