4000 texts a month

thats about 130 a day/8 per hour (if you're up 16 hours a day)/ 1 EVERY 7.5 minutes...

Surprised you have time to do anything else at that rate...

O2 although it runs an unlimited text policy actually does have a limit of 28,000 a month.

Although I can't see anyone getting near that its still not strictly unlimited!

It is pretty crazy, but to honest, I could cut it down ALOT but the way the iPhone displays texts makes me think I am using MSN so I send a lot of one word answers and sometimes even correct spelling mistakes lol

I am just worried if I go to Voda and they charge me because I know Orange do in most cases.

There seems to be some worrying reports coming out for people hoping to get a phone from a shop on 24th, such as

Just a word of warning, got a call about my preorder at orange that I paid a deposit for, they arnt going to be doing PAYG at launch and surprise surprise no white coming in.I just said **** it and ordered from apple, I dont mind waiting 3 weeks rather than queuing for hours outside the apple store.

and

Right, I work for CPW in a smallish shop in a market town. We are not expecting ANY iPhone 4's!!!!!! Also staff are not allowed to purchase so I went to the local o2 and orange shop. Orange are only getting 1 16gb and 1 32gb in stock and o2 wouldn't give exact number but they are getting few!

Considering these facts I would be getting to the network store very early! and if I had a pre-order with Phones4u I would be seriously worried as they are quite low down the food chain compared with the other stores. :(

Only the top 100 stores are likely to get a reasonable amount of stock (think 20-30!)

Also it's been confirmed that CPW will also only be doing upgrades for o2 not new connections.

It's looking to me as if the chances of getting a PAYG on 24th at anywhere other than an Apple store are non-existent and the chances of getting any phone at all is pretty slim if stock levels are so low.

I was told by Orange that my name is on the list in my local shop and I'm about number 10 on the list; when I went in and checked yesterday they swore my allocation was safe but admitted that they hadn't been told their stock allocation yet. I was still feeling fairly optimistic at that stage because I thought that store stocks would be many 10s of units, maybe even 100+, but that's pretty obviously not the case. Also, I want PAYG so it looks like the Orange thing isn't going to work out for me.

Thank goodness I also have a reservation on a unit from my fairly local Apple store. It looks as if I'll be confirming an Orange no-go in the morning and heading off to the Apple store sometime around lunchtime.

just had my email from Apple saying that it wont be delivered on the 24th due to longer delivery times.

Complete lie, as its never been a problem with previous preorders. I think the courier companies cant cope so are using this as an excuse.

Please enlighten me as to how you got a micro-SIM?! I have made countless phonecalls to Orange who say they aren't sending any out till the 24th :(

It wasn't easy, I kept badgering the CS guy and insisting that others had been able to order their MicroSIM, he eventually put me through to a supervisor that confirmed he had received an email regarding the sim. Received one the following day, MicroSIM with adapter. Contacted orange to enable it used the adapter and slotted it into my 3G, 1 hour to enable it , 2 text messages and a reboot and I was up and running:)

Just out of interest have you had 'Prepared to ship' Notification?

Just got the same email in Northern Ireland (different name obviously:rolleyes:).

This seems incredibly poor.

We were told at the beginning that NI customers wouldnt be getting it on the 24th...you never know, you may still be in luck but its the reason so many pre ordered for collection in store!

Do you mean in regards to Scotland deliveries?

So, can I just check this please.

If I go into my O2 store and get a (free) PAYG SIM (simplicity?) and top up with £10, that will activate it and give me free web use? Is that correct?

I then transfer it over to the micro SIM.

I won't actually be using it for anything other than web use, so the £10 balance will remain intact. Will I need to top it up every month by £10 to get the continued web use, or will this give me 12 months free web use for the one £10 top up?

Thanks.

You won't get 12 months free because you're not buying a Pay and Go iPhone with O2, you need to join the Text and Web tariff and top up minimum £10 a month to get free data and texts. Best to read the website.

I just got this email as well, but I'm confident we'll still get it on Thursday, or perhaps Friday at the latest. Northern Ireland post always takes the same amount of time as the rest of the UK for me.

Mine still says the 24th on the order status page but they wouldn't have sent out the emails if this was still going to be the case. I'm betting that the courier companies (UPS, TNT etc) have said they can't do all the deliveries so Apple have had to slip some. I'm normally optimistic but I don't think anyone who gets this email will be getting their phones on Thursday.

Really, really pi**ed off right now

Is your order showing as preparing for shipment or not yet shipped?

I genuinely think that not yet shipped may mean my iPhone has just been discovered down the back of Steve Jobs' sofa*, with a note attached - Remember to post on Monday....

*Yeah - I know - they come from China, and Steve is not thought to be involved in the packing process. This is what is known as a "wee joke". It is born of frustration

So.. I have reserved a 32gb to pick up from the Apple store in Chapelfield, Norwich. I have never picked up an Apple product on Launch day so have no idea how it all goes.

You think I should go down first thing just for the experience of launch day or wait till later in the day?

Any strategic answers would be appreciated :D

Shaky.

why? did you not read the website when you ordered one? It clearly said Northern Ireland wouldn't be getting them on the 24th

Do you mean in regards to Scotland deliveries?

Thats normally what this means, but as I said I live between Manchester and Birmingham! I've never had a courier company exclude me from 24 delivery because of location. Most of the courier hubs are within 15-20 miles of here!

As I say, I think this is just a logistics cock-up and the courier companies are turning round to Apple and saying they can't do all the deliveries on 24th

...and who told us that precisely.....?

[Checks email] Nope, says Delivers on June 24, not "You live in Northern Ireland. Good luck with that".:(

My biggest concern on a gamble of picking it up from a voda shop is if they have 32GB's in. my P4U said they won't have any :O

The Apple store website told you that when you added the phone to your cart....its the reason I cancelled that and went for collection! :p

The small print reads: "Delivers on June 24th excludes Channel Islands, Isle of Wight, Isle of Man Scotland and Northern Ireland. iPhone 4 pre-order limit: two per customer."

Just saw your original post. That sucks. And it's a *complete* fail on Apples behalf by 1) leaving shipment preparation so late and 2) not fore warning the couriers of the demand they will be expecting.

Like the US, this should have been done over two days - the 23rd and 24th.

It may have told you that. It told me no such thing. I was a nice early pre-order and, right from the word go it said Delivers on ...well, you know the rest by now.

I think that the only honourable thing is for you to give me your phone when you get it and you can have my late one...:D

Look into my eyes, not around the eyes......

Yeah, to be fair Apple DID say that NI customers wouldn't get delivery on 24th.... I know this because it is the reason why I decided that I will be hopping onto a bus at 5:50am on Thursday to get to the Belfast Apple Store. ;)

Yep. Told me that too when I ordered at about 9.30am on the 15th.
