anyone know if tesco has any european add ons? I can't see any on the site...

It's obviously a much better deal than the others so far, but vodaphone are offering the 5mb of european data per day and have the free vodaphone passport thing.... I spend an awful lot of time in europe so it's probably the deciding factor for me and had already convinced me to leave O2.

Is that the Vodafone 5mb for £5? or is it for free on the higher tarrifs?

Tesco roaming is probably the most expensive at £4 per mb, definitely the weak point in their deal, for me anyway.

Just got back from the o2 store after collecting my Microsim. All they required was the email showing my pre-order. As soon as phone is in hand tomorrow i'll be ready to swap over my contract

Not long guys and gals!

I think we might be the first people in the north to be queuing at an Apple store? Been here since lunchtime at Meadowhall Sheffield.

Thats what i call dedication. I take my hat off to you. Or i would if i where wearing one.

I heard iPhone 4 has HSDPA, does that mean we can get broadband speeds when browsing the web on the go?

I have a 16GB reserved at Regent Street's Apple store (which I don't want because I realised later I wanted the larger size), and a 32GB reserved at my local Orange store but it's on PAYG and I'm not sure if it'll be locked to Orange? Do you guys recommend I get it SIM free from Apple??

Make sure they gave you the right micro sim...... It could all end in tears tomorrow!

wahooo, finally shipped......although via TNT but never used them before so I will wait and see. cant be any worse than DPD.

now im hoping they way have stuck a 32gb in the box instead lol

Yes it's the same iOS, but jailbreaking is specific to various devices, and iPhone 4 hasn't yet been jailbroken.

yep thats right, the iphone 4 uses different hardware, it was the same last year when the 3gs was released, the dev team got a jailbreak out for 3g and 2g iphone for 3.0 firmware but we had to wait for 3gs. i may not jailbreak this time round though, because i only did it before to get it unlocked, but now its sim free so im fine :)

no, because the carriers don't support it

it's apple future proofing the device

Trimming down regular SIM cards.

Hey guys,

If you want/need to trim down your current regular SIM, you can. However, some of the older SIM cards have larger gold chips than newer ones, but it can still be done. I found a nice template you can use (if you don’t have an adaptor to use as a template)

Template: http://www.buy-microsim.com/pub/MicroSIM template.pdf

I have also uploaded a picture of my current SIM, showing which parts of the gold chip you CAN cut away at, as they aren’t actually used.

(The ones with the white dash CAN be cut)

Hope this helps! :)

My phone is coming tomorrow and I still don't have a sim for it, guess I will just have to cut my old sim down to size for just now.

Interesting thing on Tesco.

They list 1GB 3G and unlimited wifi... yet small print says

"web & data: fair use policy applies. Monthly data allowance 500Mb."

I saw this! I hope it is a mistake on their part, as it clearly says 1GB of (3G) Web. So I assume the limit is for wi-fi.

is that 4g?

HSDPA is 3.5G and is supported by the UK carriers. You can get a theoretical maximum speed of 7.2mbps on the current deployment, and I have seen people report actual speeds of 2-3mbps. So that's pretty much broadband speeds, though sustained throughput and latency are another story, it won't be as consistent as wired broadband.

There's no 4G in the UK or on the iPhone 4.

do it now before the servers meltdown then just use the sim adaptor in your old phone until tomorrow, otherwise may be a couple of days depending on what happens tomorrow
