O.. M.. G.. Regents Street was a complete nightmare. 8 hours queueing in the burning sun (pasty white Brits frying like a row of bacon).

I can't believe they didn't have a separate queue for simple handset purchases. We had to stand behind a thousand people drawing up contracts. Even my simple purchase took forever, although the service was with a big smile, which can't be easy. He had been there since 5am working.

"Would you like me to activate it and help you choose your apps?"
I mean, he was lovely about it all but that level of service on launch day with 1k people in a queue is really stupid. They are going to have a crisis come close of business when they still have a few hundred outside with reservations.

They really, really need to sort out a queue for reservations simply buying the handset, in the cellophane, in a bag, with a credit card. In and out in 60 seconds.

Phone them before making the trip..... I dont think all stores have them.

You can cut your sim and still transfer when you get a proper ms

I've just cut down my sim now. The phone is picking it up, asking for my passcode, changing the "My Number" bit.

If I top up this sim, will the credit transfer over to my new micro sim tomorrow?

Need some help!!!

I have a few questions, can someone help please:

1. I got 2 unlocked iphone's for apple today they told me to go to o2 to get a sim. I got 2 micro sims for free, i put them in the phones but in both of them activated the phone through itunes but the sim is still not activated after 8 hours for both of them, it still says waiting for activation this may take some time.

Is this normal? How long will it take, or do i have to top it up? Because i don't know what the number is so i can't.

2. Does it come with the 12 months free internet?

3. I tried to cut a standard t mobile sim but it won't work, because the gold bit of a standard sim is bigger than one of a micro sim. So i guess you can't cut the standard sim's and you have to stick to the micro sims given to us, not hand made ones.

Already asked this but put it in the wrong group i have cannot send picture messages on the iphone 4 can receive i am with o2 anybody else having a problem spoke with o2 they blamed apple said i needed to call them in the morning

I'm guessing they wouldn't do that because then unlocked iPhone purchasers would have priority over stock since they'd be in and out faster. I.e. if Apple had say 100 in stock and separate lines with unlocked purchasers taking a quarter of the time then the stock would go to 80 unlocked buyers and 20 contract buyers. That wouldn't exactly be fair.

1. Yes it's normal. Mine took about eight and a half hours to activate.

2. No idea what the spiel is with the new Pay&Go contracts I'm afraid.

3. The extra gold bit is superfluous contact zone. You *can* cut it The actual chip is far far smaller, the gold bits are just contact points.

They had two queues in Liverpool.

So got my iPhone 4 and just started to play with it. The screen is bwoody awsome now i look back at my 3G.

Only problems is i too have the reception issue where if you hold the iPhone the bars drop down 2-3 bars and sometimes lose 3G alltogether (hope this is software problem) or i think Apple :apple: should issue free bumbpers to solve this issue.

I was wondering though, for the ones that have the iPhone, is it best to get one of those screen protectors like i have on my 3G(official crystal one from Apple) or is it best to go naked with this one? Just don't wana get it all smudged up if it gets real bad. Makes a screen protector alot easier to put on if it's a straight swp over.

Also notice that now with the metal sides it seems alot slipier than my 3G, almost like it wants to slip outa my hand onto the floor , unless i use my little finger to stop it (which makes the reception worse due to where my finger is placed) Was not going to bother with insurance this time around but damn it feels slippy

I went at 6pm. There were 2 queues - one for sim free one for other reservations. Was about 20 people in the simfree queue, at least 60 in the other (prob a lot more - I didnt go to the end of that queue). I reserved a sim free one, but was still advised not to queue as they didnt expect to get through the ones queuing tonight. This amazed me considering the store closes at 10pm. Took my name and gave me a ticket to come back tomorrow. I suspect it will be a similar situation then. They seem to have to go through the activation process even for the sim free people. Crazy

I went to the Trafford Centre around dinner (lunch?) time having reserved one. Saw the queues (both were around 50-60 long at that point) and made an immediate u-turn.

Cancelled my reservation, I think someone willing to queue up for hours on end deserves it because I'm not willing to queue more than 20 minutes for anything.

I'm totally with you on this one, even told one of the supervisors in store today - Maybe they want this long queue as part of the publicity stunt, it's all over the media today, TV/radio/newspaper/twitter/facebook.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out there is a much faster way - keep a queue separate for those people who have reserved and simply want to pop in, pay up and get out.

If it's reserved then it's reserved. We were told that every reserved phone was in stock plus some additional walk in stock. They could have cut the queue down rapidly by processing the non contract orders via handsets and credit cards.

I just left the store after queuing all day. There is no way they are going to get through all those people by close of business.
