Okay folks, finally managed to get through to Tesco Mobile, and the guy told me their system is down again, and what's even more amusing is this: The guy said the orders they've been taking this morning are ALL INVALID coz the system wouldn't process the paperwork.....he said they are gonna start calling those customers who have ordered later to say they have to do it again.....

I think they might as well just give those stocks to others since they'd never be able to get their system to work...what a joke.

Guys, I have a question from a UK POV.

I bought the phone on vodafone contract, from Carphone Warehouse. The phone isn't fit for purpose, it's difficult to get through a call without dropout, and I cannot browse the net in my left hand.

What are my options? Can I return phone and get out of the contract? If not, can I return phone and get an equally expensive phone (albeit it, stuck to the ****** iphone contracts?)? What are my options?

Normally there's a 14 day cooling off period. Check your terms and conditions, but I'm pretty sure you can cancel the contract and return the phone.

There's possibly a cooling-off period anyway - check your contract or CPW's website, or even give them a call.

Judged by Tesco Mobile's performance during the iPhone 4 launch, I think it's fair to say that even if you managed to get the phone from them it's only the beginning of a 12-month nightmare...:(

Haven't been able to spot any yet for the iP4. Although if you do find any, can you pls pass on deets/share?

Am keeping eye on the stuff from the States though, as they have so much to choose from...and some of the stuff I bought whilst there a few years ago wasn't available here, and is really great quality (and a fraction of the price).

I did think this whole left hand corner reception thing wasn't going to bother me as I'm right handed so my hand is nowhere near the bottom left corner when I make a call. However, I've realised that like most right handed people will probably do, when I'm using it for anything else I hold it in my left hand with the dodgy corner well and truly wedged into my hand, and this makes me lose my signal. So basically, if anyone tries to call my whilst I'm using my iPhone, I doubt I'll receive their calls.

I'm not sure how it applies if i've opened and used the phone. I'm also not sure if the cooling off period applies to the network contract. I'd rather know my cards before speaking to CPWH - ideally I'd like my money back, and my contract cancelled - on the grounds that the phone is faulty and they have no more in stock...

Ok, I must have a magic phone because I'm a lefty, and hold the phone in a way which has proven disastrous for the iPhone 4 at the minute, and I drop possibly 1 bar of signal, and I say possibly because I live in an area were o2 decide we're not good enough for a strong signal.

Anyone else found this to be the case. Maybe its an intermittent problem, and mine will start shortly.

carphone warehouse are selling protectors, and the zagg invisible shield which covers the front, sides and back.

Just gave mine to the Information Systems Director here for him to play around on. Normal usage just holding in his hand (not deliberately shielding anything) and it went from a full EDGE signal down to nothing.

packaging

bit off topic but....
I live in Portugal and new phone was delivered by UPS to a UK address yesterday.
Phone has been relabelled (in original shipping package)and sent to me but I wanted to ask what was the external packaging as far as protection etc as I hope my elderly mum has not posted it without adequate protection.
Sorry such an anal question but want to put my mind at rest (or not) about how safely it will get to me!

Thanks

Pete

He's now posted 5 times, asking if anyone would sell him one for £350.

What a joker.

The going rate for a kidney on the black market is about £60,000. Imagine how many iPhones he could buy if he did that.

First time I though full credit to the guy for trying, after that he quickly became a nuisance.

I guess I run into the same problem when holding the phone and browsing the internet for example. I know it's not ideal, but have you thought about getting a bumper? It at least provides some further protection for the phone (in theory) and voids this issue of interference with the antenna.

Hey everyone, hope you're all enjoying your new iPhones as much as I am!

Wanted to get some opinions on conserving battery life? Is anyone taking any measures to save some juice? I've turned off 'location services' for some apps, turned off the 'request to join (wifi) networks' I'm probably gonna keep push email on as I like getting my emails straightaway. Am considering turning 3G off and turning it on when I need it.

What are your thoughts on this?

Apologies because I did post this question earlier.

Would really appreciate your expert opinions.

Just picked up a sim-free iPhone 4, and wondering if which carrier/plan you would recommend here in the UK? I'm most interested in data ... not to concerned with minutes.

3 looks like it has a pretty affordable plan. Are they any good? A couple of the employees at the Apple store recommended O2.

What should I do? Any advice would be tremendously appreciated.

the battery is supposed to be much better than the 3g, and so far it seems to be. the only thing i'll do is turn off wifi when im not using it, as when it's on but not connected it's constantly looking for a signal

Simplicity plans with O2 offer good value for money - currently you can get a 12-month contract or 30-month rolling contract with unlimited data starting from £20 a month. Probably your best bet now. Orange have no micro sims at the moment on their SIM-only plans, which start at £25 and 'cap' data at 750MB per month (fair use policy)... Vodafone cap their data at 1GB per month on their SIM-only plans and iPhone plans start at £25. Three have good coverage I've been told, but customer service is not always the best. I would go with O2, which I have.

I'll probably have to end up going the bumper route. It's not good though!

Just noticed this at its worse when sending a text message... signal goes while I'm typing the message so I then have to swap hands and wait for the signal to come back before I press send. Stupid!

I am the same, also a lefty with no signal issues. However I am also like you in that I don't live in a good 3G-signal area, so perhaps this is a 3G-signal-only issue with the antenna? I haven't heard that possibility being discussed yet.
