5/6 July delivery for me so I've got a few days to read feedback and reviews before deciding whether to cancel the order. Keeping an open mind until I know more. The proximity sensor issue is also a concern. Are you definitely returning yours?

I dunno its an annoying dilemma, i really like the phone especially considering i don't have the yellow issue or proximity sensor issue but this signal loss is a massive one and just ruins the whole experience. I'm not a big fan of cases either and no other phone out there interests me.

As it stands though 70% returning and 30% retaining.

yes, when i pick up the phone (when ringing), it rarely connects the call.

as for jumping the gun, a recall is going to take months. Why should i be paying £35 per month for an overpriced contract while I cannot use it?

If its that bad then i agree.. take it back, i was merely suggesting that you may want to wait... but if its unusable then back to the shop asap.

how is it unprofessional? have you ever worked in a call centre? **** happens, systems go down. When there is massive demands and huge call volumes a lot of people's systems run slowly and have the potential to go down. It happened when I worked at Virgin Media, it happened at BT and it has been known to happen now I work for T-Mobile. If she's asked you to call back tomorrow then its something massive.

Dont spit the dummy out, mate

Er, I worked for a Royal Bank Of Scotland call centre, where the queue at just one of many local, regional centres could be up to 300 at any one time. If a system went down - and there were two running side-by-side to prevent down time - CSOs offered callbacks, especially if there was a chance you would get a 'sale' from it.

Of course, it is not the CSO's fault - they have a line to deliver, but if no orders can be placed, why not put an answering machine message? Hey, why not upgrade the system so that customers aren't left having to redial on repeat every 4 seconds in order to get through in the first place! Tesco have experienced product launches before; they are not a new company, they are the UK's largest retail outlet, and account for an unhealthy amount of the UK's grocery, entertainment and electronics market. They should have been much better prepared, and, if they knew the system went down one day, they should have a back-up in place for the next. In my experience as a CSO, there was never a time when a system outage was more than half an hour, and certainly never a time when it occurred two days running.

I did think this whole left hand corner reception thing wasn't going to bother me as I'm right handed so my hand is nowhere near the bottom left corner when I make a call. However, I've realised that like most right handed people will probably do, when I'm using it for anything else I hold it in my left hand with the dodgy corner well and truly wedged into my hand, and this makes me lose my signal. So basically, if anyone tries to call my whilst I'm using my iPhone, I doubt I'll receive their calls.

So true. I'm right handed as well but most the time I use my left hand to hold the phone. I got my iphone 4 yesterday and it is very annoying as most the time I'm holding it the bars will drop to 1 or say no service. I went to my local CPW and o2 shop but neither had official apple bumpers and I didn't fancy buying a cheap knock off one.
Guess I'll have to order online and wait a week for it to come. :(

Got through to Tesco's - not taking orders till 10am tomorrow morning because of their computer problems. It's like deja vu all over again.

No, got to go out in 45 mins so don't want to risk getting in the holding queue but running out of time. Please let us know how you get on if you try, and good luck!

Their system is down... again! It's not a continuation of the problem they had yesterday though, it's a different problem they guy informed me, so that's OK then!

He said call back tomorrow as tech support doesn't know if it will be back up by today. Btw, all of those who are having trouble getting through try calling using Skype, it's free because it's a 0800 number and you can redial much much quicker than on a normal phone.

Steve said we're all holding the phone wrong. He's right of course, how could we all have been sooooo stupid?

No idea about the proximity sensor thing though, first mention of it I've heard.

Ok. Thanks for that. I'm right handed anyway, so it's not an issue, and I was going to get a Bumper as well. :)

A bumper is a bodge, not a fix.

What ever happened to the beauty of the design!

Just spoke to them, being advised to call back 2moro at 10am now.........

Jings, how long does it take to reboot a ZX81?

It's not just a reboot. They know that what's happened this morning will happen again tomorrow if they don't sort it out. They'll be adding more capacity to deal with the influx of orders. That could take all afternoon, so they're closing until tomorrow.

the signal issues have not happened in all phones. Some people reporting that it doesn't happen. So hopefully we will get a good one... if not its going back

I honestly think it is an issue on all phones. Those who report it isn't must be near a cellular tower. I can't see why it would only happen in certain phones, it seems to be a hardware issue.

Hey guys, posted this one I made in the iPhone wallpaper thread but figured it would fit in here too...

Er ... thx but it was an attempt at humour. A joke. Bordering on sarcasm perhaps, but intended as a mood lightener.

I've been on hold to the Glasgow Apple Store for the last 10 minutes. According to Twitter they have loads of 16GB iPhone 4's in stock. I am debating whether to cancel my 14th July online order and chance my luck there. It's a 15 minute journey. Anyone get a walk-in phone from there today yet?

Why don't you just go to the store and see if you can get the phone. if you can then just cancel your online order?

Totally agree with the poster. Tesco are one of the world's biggest retailers and they (not the call centre workers) have been hugely unprofessional about this.

Even now, with computer systems going down two days in a row, they are still telling people on their website to dial to order. They may not want to send business elsewhere, but what's more likely to hack off customers - a sign saying iPhones will go on sale tomorrow at 10 am so don't call now, or letting the customer repeatedly ring a number only to get an engaged tone?

They key to any business success, especially in the current climate, is making the customer feel loved - Tesco have epically failed in this.

But don't take it out on the call centre worker, they will be as frustrated as the customer is and taking it out on them will do no good to anybody.

Hopefully the Tesco System Managers are getting a rollicking now for it taking two crashes before they acknowledge there's an issue, and for not managing the customers expectations.

Did anyone notice if the Apple stores were selling screen protecters? I heard that they stopped selling them? I'm going to use a bumper, but am worried about the front and back rubbing in my pocket all day long!

Got one!

I just went into Cambridge at lunchtime, just to see an iPhone 4, not expecting to get one at all.

Carphone Warehouse not expecting stock for 3 weeks.

O2, had just got a fresh delivery today, very short queue (though it quickly grew to about 10 people).

I queued for about 20 mins, and picked up a nice 32Gb example.

I'm stoked!

btw, the Apple Store in Cambridge had also had a fresh delivery today, I was told.
