Tesco Update

I've just been on the phone with Tesco, all orders this morning have indeed been cancelled - including mine :(.

They can not take orders at the moment and currently have no idea when they'll be able to. The guy I spoke to didn't know if people who placed orders will be called back.

Hi guys. Sorry for posting again, but I really need to know:

I think I will be switching to Vodafone from O2, they are cheaper and I have heard that their network is better. I was with Orange for 13 years before I switched to O2 for my iphone 3G in October 2008, so I think I will try Vodafone now.

I have a very busy week at work (I am an A&E doctor) with 12 hour shifts this week and unfortunately I could not get an iphone 4 today. I will have to wait 10 days or so, I think. In the meantime, I have a few questions which I would be grateful if you could help me with:

a) What is this reception issue, and what bumper are you talking about? where can I get one?

b) Setting up my new phone as a new phone, can I then go on and synchronise my contacts, music and calendars from outlook as I am doing with my 3G?

c) In my 3G I am using a screen protector and an incase leather case. Would you advise doing the same with the iphone 4? If so, which one should I go for?

Many, many thanks in advance!

PAYG on o2?

Bought my phone from apple - picked up a sim card from 02 on huddersfield

Tried to register on the phone - was told it isn't available payg til end of july - hung up in disgust.

Then got a call back 5 mins later and they are sending me a PAYG sim.

Muppets. Really have no idea what they are doing.

That is actually the only thing that Tesco has done as they said - cancelling people's orders....

Truth is, I don't think Tesco (online) has 'plenty of stocks' as they bragged,
so they have to hook people in somehow, this 'system issue' is doing it nicely. It's just like how Apple loves long queues outside their Regent Street store for the purpose of free publicity

Hi all,

After reading this thread non-stop for the last few days was just about to make my first post about STILL not having my sim activated from O2 after 18 hrs when..... got signal!!! Anyone who's still waiting don't panic, just keep turning it off and on seems to work.

Anyways, does anyone know when the coloured bumpers are coming out? Don't fancy black on black and so paranoid about dropping this thing........

Awesome phone by the way. Couldn't be happier.

I don't know about their stock levels but I can't see how it would in any way be beneficial to them to be paying call centre operators to be turning away business.

ups packaging

bit off topic but....
I live in Portugal and new phone was delivered by UPS to a UK address yesterday.
Phone has been relabelled (in original shipping package)and sent to me but I wanted to ask what was the external packaging as far as protection etc as I hope my elderly mum has not posted it without adequate protection.
Sorry such an anal question but want to put my mind at rest (or not) about how safely it will get to me!

Thanks

Pete

Shipping mid-July.

I dunno its an annoying dilemma, i really like the phone especially considering i don't have the yellow issue or proximity sensor issue but this signal loss is a massive one and just ruins the whole experience. I'm not a big fan of cases either and no other phone out there interests me.

As it stands though 70% returning and 30% retaining.

I was worrying about the signal before I even ordered it as I'm on o2 and can't even get EDGE here (lousy 3 bar GPRS). At the moment I'm 80% inclined to cancel it. Very disappointed.

Been looking at other phones but my BlackBerry 8900 takes a lot of beating.

I got a WiFi iPad because I thought I'd be getting the iP4. Kicking myself for not getting the 3g version :(

Good luck with making your decision, maybe Apple will give out free bumpers. Yeah... right...

Ha) What is this reception issue, and what bumper are you talking about? where can I get one?

People are experiencing signal drops when holding the bottom half of the phone. The bumpers stop you from affecting the signal quality as one of their side effects. They're available from Apple for £25 or probably in a few weeks cheaper on eBay.

b) Setting up my new phone as a new phone, can I then go on and synchronise my contacts, music and calendars from outlook as I am doing with my 3G?

When you connect to iTunes it will ask whether to restore all of your old data (contacts, text messages, apps, email accounts etc) onto your new phone. Or you can start as a new phone and put your data back manually.

c) In my 3G I am using a screen protector and an incase leather case. Would you advise doing the same with the iphone 4? If so, which one should I go for?

One for you to answer I'm afraid. Has the screen protector been useful for you? Do you like the case? Mine is naked but it spends time in my pocket, on a desk or in a car holder.

Just to make you aware, when switching to Vodafone if you want to keep your number you will not have service on the new phone until your number switches which takes 3 working days.

So does anyone else think this antenna problem has been a bit blow out of proportion? Mine is fine when I hold it the way I usually do, left or right hand. It only drops it's signal when I grasp it tightly, which I wouldn't normally do.

Has anyone heard of any stores discounting the previous generation iPhone 3GS 16GB/32GB models?

Relax you'll be fine - Gizmodo's got theirs delivered like this and it was fine

Have you got a case/bumper on it? Have you had any problems with the proximity sensor?

Glad yours is OK :)

No. My 3 3G signal is *much* lower than on my old N95 with
or without touching it. Wifi is also weaker than I had anticipated.

Not good.

interesting response. I went to this site http://www.tesco.com/mobilenetwork/c...t.aspx?page=10 and rang

Order a Pay as you go phone Click here or phone 0845 600 4411 & Press 1

I got through straight away. She told me there are problems ordering the iphone on pay as you go at the moment. I asked if i could order one on contract and she told me the only way to do it was through the store.

smells like apple knew of the problem and made the case to fix it so they didnt have to rework the whole phone

No, no case/bumper. I haven't noticed any problems with the sensor?

I'm not sure it's entirely OK, as it does lose it's signal if held in a certain way. It just so happens I hold it the "right" way :p ;)

I honestly think it is an issue on all phones. Those who report it isn't must be near a cellular tower. I can't see why it would only happen in certain phones, it seems to be a hardware issue.

I would tend to agree with this. It happens when I'm at my desk (where I dont get a great signal anyway), but the signal problems disappear when I'm outside.

I agree, never hold my phone the way it causes it to lose signal. Some people grab hold of a fault because they want Apple to fail and dont let go of it. I dont think its an issue for myself.

Had mine over 24 hours now but still unable to use it properly as Orange can't port my number over until Tuesday! As I use mine for my business I have to stick with my 3G until then, otherwise I just know I'll lose the new one! Only another 4 days to wait

Has anyone had any luck with an online Vodafone order? I've had a confirmation email but nothing else.

Hey,
I know this signal issue is starting to get drilled to death, but I for one am royally pi**ed off at the 'non-issue' and was wondering quite whether the severity of my 'non-issue' was common.
Basically, if i touch, just briefly stroke the left hand plastic dividing so my finger bridges the gap, I'll get kicked off the network. No signal. Takes about a minute to get it back. So this makes typing with two hands (which unfortunately I've now got used to) impossible, or at least implausible, and surfing the web on O2 is dreadful.
Getting me down this is, what with my £600 phone seemingly no longer a phone but just a media device. I might as well have bought an ipod touch if I can't even connect to a mobile network.
This the case with everyone?
Thanks

(Sorry for rant, just so frustrating after waiting for ages for this phone and then being let down so bad)
