Yeah, quoting self = bad form. I know.

I actually got a response to my stroppy email to the CEO of Orange, from someone in the executive office itself. The (very polite) lady I spoke to was most apologetic, and said that micro-SIMs are indeed available for PAYG but they have no stock at the moment due to high demand, and don't know when they'll be available. Once they are, I will be sent one, and she will get in touch to let me know, and also arrange the bolt-on that you get for data/WiFi.

I think I will give them another week or so, and if it's not arrived, I will take my custom elsewhere. In the meantime, my iPhone lies, unusable, a £600 paperweight.

Sorry if this has been covered, missed the last 20 pages or so.

Can you not cut your current sim? Its really not hard to do and there are plenty of templates, how to videos and guides online. I know you shouldn't have to do it but in the same situation I know what I'd be doing!

Has anyone experiencing this signal issue gone into an Apple store or called Apple CS about it? If so, what has been the reaction to it? I know it's unlikely anyone will get a replacement given the stock issues, but thought I'd see what those having this issue have done.

By ordering online, can you take it into a store and get it replaced or do you need to deal with it over the phone through the online store?

It's not really that hard. You just cut round the gold edges leaving about a mm on each side and cut a corner. Practice on other sims before launching on your one.

12mm width x 15mm height (approx) just cut to shape of gold contact!

sorry to hear about the people having signal problems I have to say I've not had any problems with it but I live in central london so that might be the reason why?

BUT I am having terrible trouble with the proximity sensor every call i make i've ether put it on hold, speaker phone or pressed numbers never had a problem with my 3g s the only way to get round it is to really press it into my ear!! not good!

And the scratch resistant glass back has a nasty scratch in it and to be fair i've tried to be careful where i put it!

Other than that it's an amazing phone the screen quality is out of thus world!!

Fuming. Absolutely fuming.

Bought a phone from Orange online yesterday before they went out of stock, for delivery today. Checked order tracking and it's yet to be dispatched. Upon phoning them, I find out that they sold me the phone (claiming they had stock) even though they'd already sold out. No email. No text. Nothing to say I wouldn't get it today. Currently waiting to speak to the supervisor. He's gonna wish he never came into work today once I'm done with him...

Tesco

Hey,
Just spoken to Tesco once again. They are still having computer problems and told me to ring tomorrow morning as they will be accepting orders from then onwards.
The person I spoke to however reassured me they have enough stock to last the whole week.
Thanks,
Zack

I just got off the phone with Apple technical support and described the signal problem. The woman, sporting a very strong American southern accent, told me Apple was aware of the 'fault' with the antenna and egineers were currently working on a solution and hoped to have a resolution soon. In the meantime I was told to get a bumper from the Apple store, but nothing was offered gratis. I smell a recall.

I'm in the same position as you mate, I ordered Wedneday night/thurs morning (when the site said they had stock)........chose delivery for today.......checked order tracking and rang their customer services, just to be told they've sold out and don't know when I'll get mine....so they basically took my money knowing they didn't have any

Had I known this, I could of gone down to the shops on thurs and got one or ordered from another company online!

Let me know how the conversation goes with the supervisor........ I really don't feel like being with orange now, when they screw us around like this .

Glasgow Apple store seemed to have loads. Waited 40 minutes in the walk-in que and got a 16GB. They had 32GB as well. Just need O2 to activate my micro-sim now. The screen is amazing and I though it was just spin but going between the two the difference is massive. :D

That or he'll just hang up.

Hmm I doubt it. I reckon a software patch will be released which will make the iphone show more bars than it's actually receiving. I can't see what else they can do. I would quite like a complimentary bumper in the mean time, but that's not going to happen is it.

just been to CPW welford road in leicester - they have 2 iphone4 for O2 upgrade only. Shop empty, with no iphone adverts on show in the window. Sorry didn't ask whether 16/32GB.

For those going from O2 to Orange, how long does it take O2 to text you your PAC, and how long does it then take Orange to transfer the number once you provide them with the PAC?

Cheers.

If you phone up and ask nicely, they can tell you over phone.

i dont see how they can do this. it can cause no service... ie cannot connect to the internet, cannot make or receive calls... faking a bar or 2 reception isn't going to stop this from happening.

If the iOS4 software is getting confused by changing of bands/a unexpected drop in signal, brought about as we touch the phone, then it's perfectly reasonable to assume there is a CHANCE it is software related.

It's more likely to be hardware though.

Yep, at this rate there's no danger of them running out

Agreed. If they do that then they'll have a lot of people dropping calls with full signal strength. If it's hardware I would hope they'll come clean and offer a solution - either a replacement or repair. Hopefully it doesn't take weeks or months to resolve this.

Went to the Apple store because i was actually considering getting a bumper case to mitigate the issue turns out i wasn't the only one and the media are aware of this too. CNN International wanted to interview me about the issue but i decline (hate cameras)

Decided against the bumper just felt like a kick in the nuts to pay Apple another £25 to patch up a £500 device that should be working out the box.

I'm now 80% likely to return the phone.
