Absolute nightmare trying to get through to Tesco. I've tried at various times yesterday and today and not made it as far as the queue even once, I just get an engaged tone. :(

No point trying today anymore, they are not gonna take any order until 10am tomorrow, and my money is on even then they'd have further problems

Questions

1. Do I need internet connection to check my Facebook via the app

2. What does unlimted Wifi actually mean, I have that on my contract

I thought I could access stuff like the app store where ever I am

1.Yes, Facebook is an internet service, you need an internet connection to access it.

2. I think it means you can use specified O2 WiFi spots like in Macdonalds, CPW. I think that's what it is. :)

Went to the Apple store because i was actually considering getting a bumper case to mitigate the issue turns out i wasn't the only one and the media are aware of this too. CNN International wanted to interview me about the issue but i decline (hate cameras)

Decided against the bumper just felt like a kick in the nuts to pay Apple another £25 to patch up a £500 device that should be working out the box.

I'm now 80% likely to return the phone.
I'm going to give it a few days to see what they come up with, but the signal thing is ridiculous - I actually can't work out how to hold the iPhone to type or otherwise interact with the screen without the signal dropping to "No Service". It's doing it every single time I hold the phone. I'm right handed so obviously I'm holding the phone in my left hand. Ideas?
At the moment I cannot type an SMS without the signal dropping to zero.

Tesco

Tesco just phoned. They've had technical difficulties and will be calling tomorrow to take payment for my iPhone.

It looks like everyone who got an order through this morning will get a handset.

Yes, your samsung would have been accessing it over the internet, using mobile internet (3G or GPRS). The iPhone does the same, it will connect to facebook via mobile internet, or by wifi if you have access (i.e. if you are at home, and you have a wireless router)

Typing is not an issue for me but i have big hands so i just rest the phone on my four fingers and type with my thumb. Interacting with the phone however forces me to cup with my left and tap with my right which causes all kinds of issues. Interestingly i've yet to drop a call or even degrade call quality but i'm guessing this is due to having strong reception where i live.

Once i reach a weak area i'm all but certain things will get ugly. I want to get the 3GS but cant justify £420 for 8GB of storage and last year's tech. *sigh* will i really have to do android...

iPhone 4 on Three UK From Apple Retail Store

Anyone?? This thread moves so fast!

Hi guys,

I really really want to get the new iPhone. I am sure I am going to buy it on the three network but three have said I cant get the actual phone from them for a few weeks yet. They have said you can get it from Apple Retail stores. So my question is this. If i went to an apple store (presuming they have stock) will I be able to buy an iPhone on the Three Network and pay the correct amount for the phone on that contract (£99). Or will I only be able to buy the unlocked price and then buy a sim only plan from three?

All help will be appreciated.

I've just tested something in terms of this loss of signal business...

When I hold the phone in the questionable way when the iPhone is running at 3G, I lose bars/reception.

When I hold the phone in the questionable way when the iPhone is not running at 2G, I do not lose any bars/reception.

Odd. Anyone else can duplicate this?

Glad now that I failed to get a Tesco iPhone 4 this morning - I'm now in a remote place and getting no signal at all on my O2 current iPhone - but getting almost a solid 3G signal on my iPad on 3s network.

So I'll just wait for the sim-free iPhone 4 Apple are due to deliver at the start of July and go with 3 - customer service may be poor but their signal is fab.

You can definitely buy a sim-free iPhone (subject to availability) and then get a 3 sim (again, subject to availability). Not sure about signing up for a 3 contract and getting the subsidised price - why not call Apple & ask (which would be quicker than waiting for a reply on here)? :)

FWIW, I was intrigued to see if cupping my hand round my 3G caused any degradation in signal and it indeed does. I have to point out that the signal where I am in Portsmouth is not very good, which may or may not be a contributing factor. I have never been able to get a good Speedtest.net result on my 3G anywhere in Portsmouth.

I am so glad Ive waited and hung onto my 3GS
I had a look yesterday at the ip4 and to be honest I am not taken with it
All things considered I can live without facetime and HD video
I would not mind betting theres a fair few people out there who wish they had not bothered with this "upgrade"

All is not lost
remember apple have a 14 day money back promise
Who's 1st in the Q this time !

Am in Portsmouth too, managed to make my O2 3G drop from 5 bars to 1 bar (GPRS) just by cupping it around the bottom. Had the phone 2 years and never noticed it before until the issue with iphone 4 came to light!
