Hey,
I know this signal issue is starting to get drilled to death, but I for one am royally pi**ed off at the 'non-issue' and was wondering quite whether the severity of my 'non-issue' was common.
Basically, if i touch, just briefly stroke the left hand plastic dividing so my finger bridges the gap, I'll get kicked off the network. No signal. Takes about a minute to get it back. So this makes typing with two hands (which unfortunately I've now got used to) impossible, or at least implausible, and surfing the web on O2 is dreadful.
Getting me down this is, what with my £600 phone seemingly no longer a phone but just a media device. I might as well have bought an ipod touch if I can't even connect to a mobile network.
This the case with everyone?
Thanks

(Sorry for rant, just so frustrating after waiting for ages for this phone and then being let down so bad)

Tried to get this problem to replicate on my phone and doing this, or even holding my finger on it makes absolutely no difference on my iPhone 4. On VF network.

Do Apple stores still have stock? I assumed they would be sold out by now? Is there much chance of getting one if I go tomorrow morning?

For ehat its worth, I rang Apple at Exeter this morning at 10:00 and they told me they had just had a new delivery. Arrived an hour later, no crowds, 10 minutes later emerged with two 32GB. Wnt to VF shop next door and picked up two sim cards which were activated before I arrived back home.

No hastles, no stress

Good luck

A fellow Pompeian! Are you on O2 by any chance? I am seriously considering changing to another network, but not sure which one - seems like Vodafone have the most masts near me (according to the Ofcom site).

Yup on O2!
Hardly ever get a 3G signal, yet wherever else I am in the country it seems fine!
As my phone is unlocked, I have checked out the other networks with some free sim cards....T-mobile and 3 gave me full 3G the whole time, vodafone was definitely better than O2..

Amazingly I have walked into 2 x Tescos and walked out 10 mins later with sparkly iPhone 4's on 12 month £20 tariffs which is perfect for me.

Yesterday was in Kingston Milton Keynes(16gb for my wife) and today in South Northampton (32gb for me) The second one had loads in stock of both sizes having received a further delivery this morning.

This has meant I can cancel my apple pre order which was due on July 2nd and even better return my O2 upgrade which also arrived at home today. That's headed straight back and I'll say goodbye to their rubbish tariff. That phone call was sweet.

Tesco Extra's is where it's at and they seem to be getting regular deliveries. My advice is find one off the main areas and you will be ok.

Awesome phone by the way.

I rang the Exeter Apple Store at 4pm and they still had the 32GB in stock. Store closed at 6pm, after finishing work at 4.40 I was gonna go down but had plans :(

Im up in Sheffield tomorrow, will see what the Meadowhall store has to offer.

Sorry, I think I snatched that one, got it at 17:30.

Sorry if this has been covered, missed the last 20 pages or so.

Can you not cut your current sim? Its really not hard to do and there are plenty of templates, how to videos and guides online. I know you shouldn't have to do it but in the same situation I know what I'd be doing!

Yes, I tried that and unfortunately it didn't work. The phone claims there's no SIM in it. I'm guessing the SIM isn't a 3G one (my current phone is rather antique).

I found it quite an easy thing to do (and if I can do it, anyone can). I drew parallel lines 12mm apart on an A4 piece of paper and then another pair at 90 degrees and 15mm apart, lined my SIM up to gauge where to cut and snipped away. A bit of trimming later, and it fitted perfectly. But it didn't work. Fortunately, due to the design of my current phone, the SIM still works, despite being in bits.

Still, no big deal. Orange have annoyed me sufficiently that tomorrow I'll be switching to O2's £15 per month for 12 month simplicity deal instead. It's not a huge amount of money to find, and I'll get more than enough minutes to keep me going.

Just called up my local O2 store. Manager doesn't seem to think he'll get any uSIMs by July 10, at the least. I feel sorry for him, his list of people wanting a uSIM is ever growing, rapidly.

Im having such a bad experience with the O2 network!!!

Since the iPhone 4 launch its just seemed to have gone totally to pot. Constant Fluctuating signal, no service, unresponsive internet.

I have an O2 & giffgaff sim and both are just as bad as giffgaff runs on O2's network.

Vodafone have the best signal quality & data speed by far, but their plans are expensive compared to the £10 p/m plan im on at the moment.

Their cheapest iPhone 30day sim only is £25
The 12month contract is £20, I may have to go for this one.

Need some advice, ive ordered a £600 iphone 4 32gb from apple, due for delivery around 15th of July. Now just seen the tesco £670 deal for the phone 12 month contract, unlimited texts, not sure how many minutes and 1gb data a month. Now im wondering whether to buy the iphone 4 tomorrow from tesco instore and possibly get an iphone with the bottom left hand corner signal dropping problem, possible yellow patches on screen and only having 1gb internet a month.Or I can wait til the 15th, buy the iphone outright and hope that the phones signal problems have been sorted by then, pay £10 a month payg on giffgaff and get unlimited internet every month as opposed to 1gb limit, but costing £50 more at £720 for the phone and 12 months payg giffgaff.Opinions?

Are all O2 stores out of micro sims? If I buy a sim-free phone from an Apple store without a new contract, are they able to transfer my existing sim to a micro sim in store?

This is my first post so I hope I'm doing it ok!
I have been spending too much time on this thread over the last few days and I'm glad there are many more Apple geeks out there!!
I hope everyone got their new iPhone without too much stress!
I queued from around 5.15am and walked out of O2 at about 9.15am.
I'm LOVING the new phone, especially the amazing screen.
Just thought I should post something after enjoying everyones posts over the last few days :)

I don't think all are. I know all in Bournemouth and Poole are, at least. O2 at The Clarendon Centre just doesn't have any micro SIMs.

Ain't she a beaut :D
Makes my iPad look OLD!!!! :(

What network you on? O2 / Vodafone / Orange / 3??????

And is your Micro Sim activated?

O2. As I said before, it was actually my mother who was there and actually bought it, but she said 'he activated it' (I'm guessing at the iMacs which the 'iPhone Activation Here' post above it). But if I reboot the iPhone now, it will say 'Waiting for Activation' (this was after I restored it with the settings of my old iPhone).. Does it need signal O2 signal to activate or just WiFi? I don't get signal inside my house, only outside, and there was no signal when I went out. Can I just leave it on over the night and hope it activates?

BTW to the people saying stuff about the £350 I offered, it was just an offer, if they paid early upgrade offer, but then just wanted to sell the hand set, it would be £231 profit from £119. You are dragging it too far now, grow up. When you post, make it relevant to the actual topic?
