Called up Apple Regent Street to get put through to techincal support. Bit of a queue on hold and I lost recepton twice, ironic.

Anyway got through, spoke to Paul who sounds like Borat, but nice guy. Lots of pretence going on about what the "problem" is. Then got put through to a "senior" advisor. She pretended like she had no idea what the problem was. After I casually mentioned I'd bought a cheap but ugly case and had no signal problems when I don't touch the metal rim and that I would get a bumper but am not paying £25 to make my phone work properly she said "Oh yeah the bumper, I've just seen it and yeah it looks pretty good! It it is supposed to protect the edge and BOOST SIGNAL." Then she said she'd send me one for free as a courtesy gesture. Hmm.

Whatever. Free bumper. Done.

Am in Portsmouth too, managed to make my O2 3G drop from 5 bars to 1 bar (GPRS) just by cupping it around the bottom. Had the phone 2 years and never noticed it before until the issue with iphone 4 came to light!

A fellow Pompeian! Are you on O2 by any chance? I am seriously considering changing to another network, but not sure which one - seems like Vodafone have the most masts near me (according to the Ofcom site).

With a contract you get monthly allowances (minutes, texts, internet)

and on PAYG you have to pay for credit which is basically £20/pm

Contract FTW

Paid 440 for my 3g PAYG on O2

Top up is £10 a month for free texts and web
Don't do that much calling so got £70 of credit

selling my 3G for £200

Its cheaper than 18 x35 plus whatever the £150 charged for he phone in the first place

Thank you for explaining how a phone contract works. Shame that isn't what I was talking about. :)

What I was saying is that it is often (although not always) cheaper to buy the phone outright, then get a SIM only contract (something like SIMplicity, not talking about PAYG). Plus you get the added benefit of not being tied into anything.

Looks like some of those who pre-ordered from the 16th onwards aren't facing a good time.

A bit besides the conversation, but you wouldn't have been on a Dave Chappelle streaming channel earlier? I was having a conversation with a lovely chap who had the same username as you.

seriously considering buying back a 3GS. Ive seen sealed ones on ebay - whats the status in terms of ones purchased from Vodafone and their unlocking policies? i know that with O2 u can have it unlocked for free but what about Voda?

Is iOS4 supposed to keep the WiFi connection when the phone is locked? It seems to stay on the data connection to me, as if I press the power button to wake up the phone, it just shows the Edge or 3G symbol for a brief second.

God, everything I say is manipulated:L Sorry about the MJ thing, was watching This Is It while typing it.

Anyway, I got my iP4 32GB, honest reaction = wow.

reaction after about 10 minutes = yeah this is pretty decent, not *amazing* though, still incredibly pleased. & the display isn't *that* good, it is a lot clearer though. The one thing I would say has improved the most is the camera, it's fantastic.

Also, is it me or is the contrast ratio about 10x better?

Bought the Griffin Reveal case from Phones4U today for £20. A very good and lightweight case, though this one didn't come with a screen protector.

I've just spoken to a senior iPhone customer service representative at apple, and I told him about the signal issues, he said that he had heard things about it, although hadn't noticed them himself, but his friend could replicate the signal issue.
Anyhoo, got a free black bumper ordered :D

I ordered an iPhone 4 yesterday from Vodafone online after they were 'out of stock' and receiving new ones in a couple of weeks.

But I just got an email saying it's been dispatched. Could it be true or maybe an error?

It still says "Waiting for activation", and I can't get signal..
Is this the problem other people are having?

All networks and retailers seem to be drip feeding stock into the system. I've had emails and calls from CPW and O2 today offering me an upgrade with next day delivery. I guess Apple are keeping them in the dark about deliveries until the last possible moment.

Despite all the 'Shortages!!! Panic!!' hype of pre-order day, Apple seem to be getting stock into stores, which makes me think they've made plenty and are milking the publicity. No company who has become as successful as Apple over the last few years, did so by underestimating demand for their product.

So, here's hoping you get your phone asap :apple:

Sorry if this is been asked before but has tesco began selling PAYG iphone 4s yet, has anyone picked one up and are they unocked? Can you buy them instore?

Do Apple stores still have stock? I assumed they would be sold out by now? Is there much chance of getting one if I go tomorrow morning?

If anyone's impatient with orange PAYG micro sims, just get a regular mini-sim, and cut it to size. Worked for me today.
