Anyone got a PAYG ip4?

had a heck of a set to today with o2 activation line when they told me of course my microsim won't activate - we aren't doing payg til next month. I was calling from the 02 shop too.

'You made no mention of that on your site at all' i said. "What can you do about the phone apple shipped to me yesterday?"

"Nothing" was the reply - so as the conversation had served its purpose i hung up

By the time i got to work i received a call from another person who apologised for the confusion and is sending me a payg sim.

Am i the only person in the UK with a PAYG ip4?

They have mentioned it on there site that they won't be doing PAYG at launch. http://shop.o2.co.uk/new-iphone/tariffs.html

iPhone 4 will be coming soon to Pay & Go but it won't be available at launch.

You haven't been sent a O2 PAYG phone from Apple you have been sent a Sim Free phone which can be used on any network. You most likely confused them, what you need to a PAYG microsim which they are giving out. The microsim you probably had was a Pay Monthly one which is why it didn't work.

Tesco Extra's is where it's at and they seem to be getting regular deliveries. My advice is find one off the main areas and you will be ok.

Awesome phone by the way.

That's Tesco Extra's specifically with the Tesco Phone Shop or just regular Tesco Extra with the electrical department thingy ?

Is any one else been charged for standards texts since upgrading to the new iPhone. The o2 app says I don't have any inclusive texts either :S

Also just noticed it says I have 240 mins till 6th July despite been on a £35 a month contract

Thanks
Phil

Your bill will have been pro-rata'd. Will be correct from the 6th July, there is only a portion of the month left so you get a portion of the monthly minutes. Also 21202 and MyO2 app will always now show 0 texts but check your tariff and you'll find the cost of a text is set at 0p. So unlimited means they don't charge you for a text.

Go to Tesco and get your phone dude! The chances of getting a dodgy one are minimal - and if you do I'm sure you could swap it. You won't regret it :)

Thanks to all the replies

Think i will leave it till the end of July A) so they have all the problems out of the way hopefully and B) my upgrade date is 29th of July with Orange so if they don't give me a good deal then i will be off to tesco :D

Flumps,
I don't know if this applies to Orange but ive been with Vodafone for at least 10 years now and when I rang them about iPhone 4 they told me no matter how long I had been with them the price plans for the iPhone are set by Apple and cannot be changed so I wouldn't get any form of discount.
Like I said this may be different than Orange but its time for me to jump ship from Vodafone after 10 long years.

True, i ain't expecting much but i will try anyway and see where it gets me and if it gets me no where then its not the end of the world but right now the tesco deal is REALLY appealing.

Activated now. :)
Also, considering a bumper case, this signal issue is peeing me off. What colour should I get? I don't mean to sound 'cheap' (even though I try to be) but is there anyway Apple would give me one free of charge or for a discount due to the signal issue if I called them up? :D

Also, although I have finally got my iP4, it is the 32GB model and I bet I could get a great profit for it, should I eBay it?

You know, the only thing mitigating my anger at the moment to the signal issue is the fact that Apple have not yet charged me. Monies still in my account perfectly safe and usable.

Makes me wonder if steve isn't feeling a bit guilty about taking £600 for a phone that can't make calls with being insulated in rubber...

Not so lucky... £599 charged to my card this evening. It was inevitable I suppose!

in true petulant form, I feel like sending all the money in my cards account to my brothers account, so that when apple reach for the funds it wont be possible to get them
but not sure if this will work... thoughts anyone?

guess everyone got their phone, this topics lost steam.

the uk iphones holding up ok ?

holding up is a ambiguous term... the signal when you BRUSH the edge will go. O2, Orange, Vodafone, I've tried with those sims in the phone. I go from 5 bars, 3g, if i gently touch the partition on the bottom left of the phone the signal will rapidly decrease, going from 3g 5 bars to edge 2 bars to no bars no edge then no service.

SO FRUSTRATING, and will be brow beating an apple employee once this whole situation is released into the wild to send me a free black bumper. Im not buying a phone that does not work when you attempt to use it, unless you pay an unnecessary £25 case which you THOUGHT was optional.

Thanks apple. Really.

--But yh, the phones nice. Real nice. Signals just pissy--

I've had no such problem, which is weird! I've literally been on the phone to a friend trying to cover the whole left side, and underneath, and every which way I hold my iPhone, it can't get it to drop signal to nothingness. I'm not saying I want the problem particularly, but its weird I'm not experiencing it.

Fantastic reply from Mr. Jobs though, answered in its simplest form.

I'm really jealous, honestly, its so frustrating watching the bars drop. Cant actually surf the web on 3g cause when i move a finger one touch and the data stops transferring.

and the bold bit... please say sarcasm?!?!?

I won't name carriers, but Vodafone used to ***** me off with upgrades. After 5+ years of them, and no niceties, I opted to leave... and have had no regrets.
Phone Bills have been half of what I've paid when I used to be contracted to them....and the best bit....I don't have to pay to upgrade with who I am, whereby Voda used to make you pay premium to upgrade handsets.

I called up Apple Regent St and went through to technical support. Explained the signal issue. They feigned surprise and no knowledge of such problems. Got put through to a senior advisor. She went through the motions again and when I mentioned the bumper fix she again went through the charade of only JUST knowing about a bumper etc. Then she said it not only protects your phone but BOOSTS SIGNAL. I really wanted to laugh at that point but she said as a courtesy gesture for my "inconvenience" she will send me a free black bumper. She said I can choose a different colour but that was the only one they have in stock. So I just thanked her and went on my way.

So be nice. Explain. Go along with the charade and you'll get a bumper to sort out your signal.

The bolded bit is more disbelief that someone so successful can be so wry about as situation which is affecting tons of people.

And, honestly, I've tried. I think i'm safe, fingers crossed. Spent the whole evening in hospital visiting my dear old Gran, and tried there and again, found no problem.

No luck! I got my upgrade to the iP4 for free on vodafone. If you dont mind getting it in a vodafone box instead of the apple box......Saved me £219

If you can get it in hospital, i think you're pretty safe. Really envious. Funny thing is if this is a random batch gone wrong, then I must've been unlucky- I ordered 3 of these things, all black, all 32gb and I chose from the selection randomly. Wish I'd gone for another now :L

Well enjoy your purchase, and yes, steves reply was insanely insensitive to the worries and nuances people are experiencing after there phones fail to work. Even though the monies already gone into Apples HUGE coffers. I hope his PR team nail him to the wall tbh (Y)

Thats horrid news, you had 33% to hit a defective one (the other two possibly work well?). Thats bad news :(

And being Apple, the situation will be righted, how quickly is the answer. I'm guessing, give it a few days for them to draw up a proper PR response which Steve has nothing to do with, and we'll know more.
