I sent them an email of complaint yesterday, because of the way the calls were being queued/not queued and the instability of their systems infrastructure and got this back at 9:48am (26 June 2010 09:48) this morning:

"Thank you for emailing support@tescomobile.com

Regrettably due to the high demand for the iPhone 4 our sales lines have been extremely busy. I am very sorry you were unable to place an order once you got through to the sales team.

Unfortunately we are currently out of stock of the iPhone 4, however you can register your interest in the iPhone 4 at http://www.tescodirect.com/p/inc/specials/iphone/ and we will email you when further stock becomes available.

You can also contact your local Tesco Phone Shop who will be able to advise you on their current stock levels. Please click on the link below to locate the nearest Phone Shop to you.

http://www.tesco.com/storeLocator/

Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

If there is anything further I can assist you with, please do not hesitate to contact me."

So they had sold out 12minutes before they said they'd be taking ANY phone orders anyway!

Luckily, thanks to an amazing person at O2 Maidstone, I managed to get one this morning!

Not impressed with how tesco have dealt with this at all. I was trying to convince my dad to switch from o2 and take up the 12 month tesco tarriff but after this I don't think I'll bother.

Yep, can confirm what someone has already said:

TESCO IS OUT OF STOCK

At least that means I can get on with my weekend instead of spending it pressing redial. And they've no idea when they're expecting more stock. :(

a) it's in warranty

b) they should be able to tell if it's had water spilt on it.

The white moisture dot in the headphone jack's still white so I should be fine if it comes to apple warranty. There are just so few of these around right now that I'd rather not have to go through Applecare - I don't want to have to wait weeks to get it replaced.

What a joke. I read about others getting sent free bumpers, so I gave Regent Street a call at around 8pm. After about 15 mins explaining/begging/pleading to a "manager", he insisted that people who called earlier may have been sent out free bumpers, but since the "official statement" from Apple saying that we shouldn't hold our new phones in a certain way, they were unable to send out any more. I grumbled about how it wasn't exactly fair and that, having shelled out £599 for a new phone, being asked to throw an extra £25 at them just to make it work "properly" was a questionable business practice... but the guy just wouldn't budge :(
Can anyone confirm who they spoke to and when?

Ah sorry dude. I spoke to a guy called Paul (sound a bit like Borat) and then he had to pass me to a "senior advisor" who was called Jeanette. Despite the pretense Jeanette gave me a bumper free. I called at 5/6pm. Jeanette asked me all the usual questions about what I had done (restore etc) and asked about network coverage (said we had a 3G and 3GS in the house, which is actually true). I said I'd read online about the bumper but wasn't prepared to shell out any more money to make a £600 phone actually work. So she offered the bumper (which she claimed she'd only "just" heard about), even offered me a choice of colour (but black is only one in stock ready to ship). She even went as far as to say the bumper not only protects the sides of the phone but "boosts signal" - news to me, I nearly LOL'd. I dunno, maybe it's cuz I'm a girl and they think I really am that stupid.. Also, did you call Regent Street store manager or did you call Regent Street store and go to technical support?

So can anyone clarify that I can get a free bumper? It sounds cheap, but I am too pissed that I have this signal issue, I agree with everything naths said. It comes unlocked right, to really the phone is actually worth £599 (even though I got the O2 contract) and it doesn't work? Having a product recall for the people who complain is one thing.. but them 'selling' you a case, which is the only thing that 'makes' it work? I thought Apple had more class than this..

Should I call the Apple Store I bought it in (Exeter), or shall I call customer support?

PS. Re the signal issue. Is it just the corner 'section' that is sensitive? (under the line between the two metal bands) or is it somewhere else?

You *MIGHT* get a free bumper, myself and some other people on forums have but like others have said, they haven't managed to. I rang up Regent Street store (which is a "local" number so free to call unlike other apple numbers I found) and selected Technical Support. I'd say don't be really arsey on the phone, technically not these guys faults and they probably have to hear the same thing over and over. I was nice and was patient, if I hadn't got anywhere I'd have taken a stronger stance though. TBH I don't even get the signal problem that bad cuz I hold the phone "the right way" but I wanted a bumper before the signal problems so the £25 saving is good. But signal problems are around the black lines at the bottom.

Tesco PAYG (maybe?!?!)

Ok .. just phoned them on 0800 001 4150 and pressed option 2 even tho it said press option 1 for monthly iPhone!

I had got thru to 'tesco direct' .. he has told me that yes, they are out of stock at present but if I call back Tuesday after 5pm they will have more in. I double checked that he was talking about PAYG phones and he said yes definitely.

Of course, I take it all with a giant pinch of salt .. who knows what's really going on with any of the 'suppliers' at present!!!!!

16GB Stock issue?

just read in another thread that a support guy said that some iphones are missing something on their antenna strip thats supposed to insulate it, maybe a clear coating of some kind?????

would make sense i guess!

....not impressed

mines a 32GB ordere before that fella and mines not shipped yet:mad:

The strange thing is that usually the reason for an order being slowed down is because of buying accessories because all the items have to merge in transit. Needless to say, I wouldn't be impressed either in your shoes.

How do you know your order is before that one? Not saying you don't know, just trying to understand :)

D'oh! Just noticed the date & time bit! (hangs head in shame)

So, have any of you that are experiencing the Antenna issue contacted Apple support UK yet? If so, what was the outcome? I'd rather have a fix than a bumper...bumpers look a bit...you know...fruity

lets make it a bit clearer with a screen capture :)

Ordered a whole day before whoever that may be and its a single order - no dock :eek:

perhaps a different factory?

On another note i feel sorry for the guys going towards Tesco Mobile on a network that is apparently already strained (says o2). Ive had numerous times over the years with o2 where ive tried to make a call but my phone wont connect because its said "Network Busy" or something along those lines

Ref the 1GB limit this is twice what O2 are offering and the guy in the shop stated that this limit would not really be enforced.

One of the staff at the store where I bought mine said currently not enforced bu they will be in October (when O2's changes) and you will be able to buy a bundle for extra data.

i orderd the 32gb black iphone4 with bumper, same day as you but at 4:28pm so not long before you and i have the same despatch and delivery day as you.

Just called Apple Support, he insisted he could not just 'give out a case', so he submitted it to the engineering team.

Call duration: 57:17
Time on hold, with no sound at all: about 54:00

Not impressed.

I wonder if adding an accessory actually bumps you to the front of the line for a given batch? It makes sense as they are making more that way and lose more if the order is cancelled. Just a thought.

I was originally due for delivery on 25-28th (ordered 32gb black with a bumper at 13:24 BST on the 15th) and it turned up on the 24th. Did anyone order a 32 on its own before me and not get it until later?

Incidentally, luckily my screen is perfect (built factory 88 week 23) and I seem to find reception is a little better than my 3GS. Am using the bumper though.
