(Excuse me if this is now old news....) Just got off the phone with O2 and have been told that if I go with the early upgrade offer (will cost me around £180) then the iPhone 4 will be free. Not sure if this will apply to everyone, but she said because I am on an pay monthly contract for £45 a month (though my bills more like £70/month), as long as I sign up to another 18 months it will be free. I asked her to check this a couple of times and she said that she was certain it would be free...Much cheaper than my original plan of buying on pay&go.

That seems VERY odd and unlikely. As always, double check by calling back and getting a different person.

You're absolutely right, on closer examination they are 3GS, but they'll work in an iPhone 4 even if you have to modify the sim yourself (an easy job).

Will Vodafone play nice and let you do that though? Apparently they can tell what device is being used. Or so I was told regarding using the O2 iPhone sim in an iPad.

your right they can see what device is being used, doesn't matter the handset when a sim is put in an turned on the device type is sent to the network

wtf... hmm.

Does "sent data" count towards the limit? I mean if you record an HD video and edit in imovie for iphone with transitions, music etc and upload it to youtube, isnt that gonna masssively effect your sent data usage?

Top up £15-£29. Get 500 texts and 500MB internet
Top up £30 or more. Get unlimited texts and 500MB internet

Interesting... now can we have the price of the iPhone 4 please :p

i wanna know if i buy a simpicity sim now can i get unlimited data still when the new iphone comes out.. like the ppl on contracts can do..

despite the new tariff changes I am more a texter and when I had a second hand iPhone I barely used my data I would tend to use wifi over data so if none of the other networks can offer a 18 month cheap tariff with unlim txts I may be switchin to O2

I might be wrong but I think the simplicity unlim data will stop in october with everyone else

This just in...

Have just seen the above table via an email from o2.

500mb a month? How can o2 have gone from the best iPhone provider to the worst?

Unless im mistaken Voda you get 1GB a month and Orange 750MB a month.

So the question is do I switch to Voda orrr if I bought an iPhone 4 on PAYG could I keep the unlimited data I currently have or would that be reduced to 500MB too?

And yes I do quite often use 500+ MB a month

Just got through to someone else and whilst she isn't saying the earlier answer was wrong, she can't talk about it. Perhaps not such a sweet deal after all. Guess will have to wait and see.

Apparantly i've only used 600Mb of data in 11 months!

Am I the only one who ALWAYS thought the O2 data allowance was 500mb, but it was 'unlimited' unless you went completely crazy with it?!

vodafone has yet to release new tariffs for iPhone 4 so we don't know if they will give a worse deal and O2 will remove unlimited data from Oct 1st on all tariffs from what I have seen

Suddenly the Orange tariffs don't look too bad unless of course they change too once the iPhone 4 Tariffs are announced.

I just spoke to an orange customer service member via work at CPW and they said they don't think they are going to change at all, they are waiting for other networks to release theirs before they do it due to the fact they want to be competition, also she seems pretty sure they are doing preorders on the 15th.

Orange give 3GB and vodafone give 1GB.

For me, PAYG and O2 Unlimited is perfect. I get Unlimited texts and calls to all O2 numbers (which 90% of my contacts are) for £15 a month. I then use the Web and Wifi bolt on which deducts £10 from my credit and gives me UNLIMITED internet. Then I have £5 credit left usually suffices for any calls to non O2 users or landlines.

I've just had a look through my bill , most months I'm very near or just past the 500mb allowance:cool:
the tethering iphone to ipad may have to stop:D:D

£70/month?! I think it's time to visit moneysavingexpert.com! That is just too much. I cannot believe that there wouldn't be more cost-effective alternatives.

Do people going for monthly (including myself already on monthly and due an upgrade) get to preorder on the 15th? Or is that just for people buying the phone outright? Would be nice to reserve a phone incase they sell out.
