I e-mailed Vodafone asking about their pay as you go tariffs. I asked what the data allowance would be and what the release date is. Here's the response I got, and yes, they really did say "iPhone 4GS"

Hi Mr. -----------,

I'll not be able to comment on the iPhone tariff and iPhone availability on PAYT as of now as we do not have the updates.

We will be offering PAYT price plans for iPhone 4 in July 2010.

You can also register for the iPhone 4GS on http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/mobile-phone/iphone-4
.

For more information on iPhone 4 please visit www.apple.com/iphone

I trust this helps.

Kind regards,

Calm down!!!!! :p

As if a network operator would restrict what apps you can install! Like a car manufacturer only letting you drive down certain roads!

you can bet your last penny that if orange could restrict the apps or put their own firmware on the device they would, the have with all their other phones (skype was removed from nokias - threrfore preventing the voip revolution) damn networks and their resistance to become 'dumb pipes'

Re: O2 SIMplicity tariffs

It looks like it is much better to buy the sim-free/unlocked from apple then go for a simplicity contract if you need to use your phone abroad. the question is...
- does the simplicity tariff include ITS
- is it possible to get pay as you go sims in europe/canada/us to stick in your iphone 4 when travelling there?

About the SIMplicity tariffs: you'll pay more than their phone+contract options unless you opt for the 12-month or 24-month deals.

Their table at http://shop.o2.co.uk/new-iphone/tariffs.html and the info at http://www.o2international.co.uk/callingfromoverseas/its.aspx suggests that ITS is only included on the higher-rate tariffs (>= 600 minutes), you have to pay extra (£2.99/month) on the lower ones.

The only issue with getting SIMs abroad, right now, is going to be the availability of microSIMs - if you're happy to cut miniSIMs down yourself then you'll have no problem.

If I'm suffering from buyers remorse and want to get a 32GB instead of a 16GB, can this be done in Apple stores like in the U.S?

Re: O2 SIMplicity vs. contract

My plan is to buy the unlocked iPhone4 from Regent Street - stump up £500; I'm micro-simmed up already. Job done, no contract and unlimited data. I think there might be slightly cheaper options on a new contract, but probably not much in it and this way I get the contract flexibility and unlimited data continues.

By my calculations, with the 300 minute/30-day you'd spend £50 extra over two years than with the 300 minute/18 month contract, followed by a switch to the 300 minute/30-day after 18 months.

It's fairly close, but if you're not someone who uses many of the bundled minutes each month then you'll spend far less by going with either an 18-month contract+phone, or the SIMplicity 12-month deals.

is it just buyer remorse or are you suffering because there's not much space after recording video etc ?

Meanwhile, these came in the post today for the iPhone 4...£17 for them both. Box fresh and all :)

Where did you buy those? I saw that the iPhone 4 fits nicely into the original dock and want to get one for myself. (Or you could give me one of those plz :))

Re: Visual Voicemail

Re visual voicemail, I might be wrong but I think it is only O2 that currently offer this. However, there is an app that apparently does the job just fine ("hullo" something).

Vodafone recently started offering it now, too.

(Hullomail, is the third-party app you're thinking of. Not quite as nicely integrated though.)

Re: SIM adapters

Finally managed to get my hands on some O2 micro sims today, however they didn't have the adapters to convert it back to a normal sim. I went round all of the phone shops and also Apple, but no one had any.

Anyone here got one here, if so where did you get yours?

A very helpful member of staff (I suspect he was the store manager) in a nearby O2 store gave me an adapter free, along with the microSIM- this was the day before "launch", though.

I didn't need to use it straight away of course as I just pushed out the 2FF SIM portion and left the microSIM within it, but its handy to have now that I've got the microSIM installed in the iPhone 4.

NB. I'm not sure how easy it would be to use it within some of the SonyEricsson phones, where the SIM has to be flexed to be inserted.

Those are the boxes for the iPhone 3G and 3Gs handsets. The boxes for the Apple iPhone 4 docks are white and about half the length of those boxes. Addtionally the picture of the dock on the front of the boxes shows that the dock accepts the curved form factor of the 3G and 3Gs - the iPhone 4 has a much 'squarer' form factor.

Apple's own iPhone 4 dock and box: http://www.ilounge.com/images/uploads/iphone-4-bumpers-dock.jpg

Are you sure the docks you bought are for iPhone 4?

Re: Screen ambient light sensor

And do you have to do anything with the light sensor to make it work, doesn't seem to be working in the dark just now, screen is very dull.

It's meant to go darker, not brighter, in the dark.

I went to a three store over the weekend and they said that they are going to be getting the new iphones in on 9th July.
