I heard somewhere that the 3G network piggy backs off O2 so your better off going with O2 if you want to get prioty over someone else with a 3G network.

Why do you think they are cheaper... because they need something to better O2 to get more customers.

3 have their own 3G network. They used to use O2 for 2G, but its orange nowadays. The CS remains poor

That was true a few years ago. But they now share with Orange, and there is no evidence of differentiating between 3/Orange customers.

That being said, I'm avoiding 3 for the time being due to the appalling customer services. I'm getting my phone SIM free though, so might try them for a month or two further down the line.

I've been reading up on 3, as I'm thinking about doing the same thing, and it looks like there MIGHT be a case of if there's no 3G signal, there's no signal at all with the iPhone 4. No 2G fallback, no voice, data, EDGE, GPRS, anything. 3G or bust.

Perhaps somebody could confirm/deny this?

3 mobile have their own pure 3G masts and then have access to all of t mobiles 3G masts aswell, o2 are not connected at all, all the 2G coverage is shared with orange so all in all it ammounts to the best 3G coverage of any network. also there is no priority to network traffic in mast sharing or MVNO deals, that would be unfair practice and the mast owners would be fined by ofcom

if there is no native 3 mobile 3G masts and you are not in a tmobile 3G your connect to orange's 2G network, so it is not 3G or bust

Yes, by far the best 3G coverage - check out the maps

Well, the good news:

Just received an email from vodaphone saying my iphone is almost ready and will be with me by 6pm on friday.

The bad news:

I will be in london (away from the address it will be going to) and then leaving for Geneva on friday evening.

I emailed them on the off-chance that they might be able to send it to a vodaphone store in london instead for me to pick up but I doubt it'll work out :(

In the UK you don't pay a restocking fee, you have a legal right to return any good in the same condition as when you bought it within a certain period of time for a full refund. Apple's return policy (link here) allows returns for exchange or refund within 14 days of purchase.
.

It's not a legal right unless the item breaches the Sale of Goods Act 1979. However, many companies (like Apple) allow a no quibble return or exchange within a certain period

People are reporting that 3 has disabled 2G data when people activate an iPhone tariff.

I think it is those using a PAYG sim expecting to be able to use the Orange 2G network with their free Internet allowance they get when they top up. I believe 3 only allow you to use Orange's network if you buy a PAYG Internet add-on. Should not apply to iPhone pay monthly tariffs, if it did 3 would be shooting themselves in the foot.

I ordered from orange on weds nyt/thurs morning and was promised next day delivery.......never came.......was promised monday.........never came.......now they tell me sometime this week.........

As of this morning, my order with Orange has changed to "Order Dispatched". Ordered online at noon yesterday.

It seems to be happening with people who have the PAYG Internet add-on as well. People have reported that 3 customer service have told them their data roaming agreement with Orange is ending and they are shutting everyone's 2G data down, though that's hearsay of course. I would wait and see how this plays out over the next few days if you're thinking of signing up to 3 and 2G data is important to you.

Buy it from the Apple store, no contract and unlocked. Buy it from anywhere else, even on PAYG and almost guaranteed that they will lock it.

Agreed. Buy SIM free from Apple, go to your carrier's store and swap your card for a smaller one. SIMple. And you'll get a better price on eBay when IP5 comes out.

does anyone know why it takes apple so long to claim money when you pay by a switch card ? I paid for my iphone on launch day at 7.15am and the money still hasn't gone out of my account . I checked another previous transaction and it seems to take 6 days before the money goes from my account.

Keep us updated if you do call them.

Called and they are NOT taking orders. They've sold out and don't know when they will get new stock again

The ONLY reason for going with Tesco is their 12 month contract - but in all honesty looks like I'll just go with O2 in this case, at least they get stock every 2-3 days

I take it you ordered the 32gb version, i was exactly the same, should have come next day, then i was told monday but nothing. Just waiting for Orange to get a re-stock of the 32gb so they can send these orders out.

Any update on when this will be?

interesting hearing that 3 use orange as a 2g backup. i've already backed an orange iphone4 this week to due poor signal at my house. guess that rules 3 out then :(
