Anybody have any experience of walking into Tesco and asking to buy an Iphone 4....do you get put on a priority list of some sort or what ?

Sorry, I didnt say that I ordered from Apple

Hmmmm, its a bit different with pre-orders and an order. I mean mine shipped on the 23rd and came on the 24th because it was a pre-order but best thing to do is track it via UPS and check your status on the Apple US site NOT the UK one because the US one tells you when your iPhone 4 is being prepared for shipment :)

I tried, but I walked in through the left side of the shop so there was no service to ask :p

Tesco update:

For those unfamiliar with my case: I actually managed to order a phone on Friday, but the order was cancelled due to a bulk buy trigger. My account was created and a phone no and IMEI attributed.

I decided to give them a call today to see what was happening, and the woman said that they are indeed sold out, but my account had a phone reserved and was just awaiting payment. So, I gave her my payment details. I await the result, and will post back in about an hour.

Fingers crossed (all of you, please? lol)!

Is this tesco mobiles contract your doing? cause they dont have payg on there site :(

Im really thinking about a contract with them bt never had a contract before... I want to do stuff like jailbreak etc but worried that it will be a real hassle if im on a conctract.. also what happens when the contract runs out? does the phone turn into a "payg" phone and is yours to keep?

To Norn Ironers, VC had tons of black bumper cases in stock today, in case you're interested in getting one.

When contract ends you continue paying the same amount until you call and change tariff or you move network etc. After the contract ends you only need give 30 days notice to move elsewhere.

Oh right so when the 12 months are up i ring up tesco and say I would like to go back to payg?

In which case I think i might take a contract out then hmmm

Yup, or you ask for a sim only contract on Tesco (if they do them) or another network, so for example for £20pm you may get 600 minutes, 3000 texts etc.

lol I feel sorry for US peeps, the mobile phone market is less mature I would say. UK get quite a good deal compared to US to be fair but then again you tend to get things first so its all good lol i think :)

More of a problem of lots of incompatible networks (2 types of GSM 3G, CDMA etc), all the UK networks are compatible with each other thankfully.

well that's another factor tbh, I meant like the tarrifs in the UK are a lot less than in the US and we have the benefit of getting phones via sim only, payg, contract

I think this is down to competition because of the compatible networks, in the US once on Verizon you have to buy a new phone to move to AT&T and vice-versa. Makes moving networks more difficult. I bought my 3GS on O2 and moved it Vodafone with no issues. Even T-Mobile USA has a version of GSM 3G that does not work with the iPhone because of frequency differences.

Returned my iPhone, now waiting for another!

I bought my iphone on the release date and decided to switch from O2 to Orange, big mistake, haven't had a decent signal since. So, phoned apple today and they will take it back and cancel my contact, however now I need to wait until another iphone comes into stock!!!

Am on the reserve list but have no idea how long I'll have to wait, any idea's??? Need to return my existing phone by 8th July, will then have no phone as selling my old 3G!!!

Whilst on orange I took advantage of the mobile dongle at £5/month for 500mb, only available to orange customer, I wonder if I will need to return it, I hope not.

yep that's why I prefer UK :) but it seems even we are becoming like the US in terms of length of contract - 2 years is becoming the standard.

well but of a long story but... I rung AppleCare on saturday evening (26th) and I told them I was having signal issues and I said I want to return the device...got transferred to after sales and they told me I could either do that or get sent a free bumper, so did that and chose the white one :). Anyway they said it would get here 19-20th July because it was white, they said the black would be quicker but I got an email on sunday saying that it had been dispatched. I rung them up again yesterday and they said it was on the way.

But the driver forgot he had to deliver mine because the manager of UPS called me and said that the driver left the jiffy bag on the front passenger seat and forgot...kept apologising and said he would sort the driver out! anyway he promissed me it would come before 9 today which it did :D.

I would contact them and say you want to speak to after sales department :)

UGH. I rang up AppleCare on Friday evening and got the black one free (I know I'll get the white one dirtyy). Anyway just emailed the girl and she has said it's been ordered for me but not yet dispatched and she'll email me when it has been with details etc. As long as I get it free and relatively soonish I'll be happy. Although kudos to you for getting yours so quick and a non black one at that! :)
