Anyone had any luck with Tesco since they sent the stock update email at the weekend?

Just been down to my local tesco and got put on a waiting list.

Has anyone tried a different network sim to test the Signal issue? My friend has the antenna issue on O2 but when tried Three PAYG sim he had no issues.

The only people claiming the issues "don't" effect them are idiots that don't leave their house.

Gee thanks

In reality, it has been established that the effect does vary from *user to user*, if not from phone to phone. For example it's not a problem for the two people in this household, two different iP4s, used in various locations including, for example, SW19 and (very!) rural County Durham (where 2 non-iP4s gave consistently poorer reception, or none) and two journeys in between. No dropped calls over 10 days of use. Perhaps it only affects rude people? :p

I'm sending mine back to them tomorrow as the Three package looks so much better. To be honest with you if you're not getting anywhere with them I'd cancel (I think I remember that you had already ordered?!)

All this gets so frustrating due to stock let alone all the problems with Customer Services (I use the term 'service' lightly!)

Loopy

Jup I ordered mine but never got one....
They don't even know when they going to get it:(

Lots of things effect signal quality. So I guess if the O2 signal was weak and the signal from 3 was strong this could make a difference.

In the UK at home on O2 I could make the signal drop by a bar or two by covering the bottom left of the handset. However it was not really an issue as it never went under 2 bars and I had no issues with calls. I am currently in France and roaming on Bouygues Telecom. I have 5 bars but whatever way I hold the handset the signal stays the same.

I am "guessing" that the cell-tower must be very close so the signal is very strong and a hand is not thick enough to block or reduce the signal.

I guess your right on O2 3G he only gets 3 bars but he can get full bars on 3.

Got my new iPhone a few hours ago and loving it. To anyone on O2, I suggest you just phone 2302 from your handset and upgrade. You can probably have an iPhone by tomorrow.

Well, I ordered my upgrade over the phone on Friday morning and it was delivered today. I can give you proof if you're really sceptical?

if you ordered from orange.....you won't be getting one for a long time, they don't have any stock at all.

02 + vodafone have plenty.

It's true. O2 have offered me an iPhone with next day delivery both times I have rung them in the last week... but I've actually bought SIM free from Apple.

Just got back from Trafford Centre (Sunday).

Went to shop for clothes for my daughter and there was a queue of about 5 people outside o2 shop. Sign said iphone 32gb only.
I don't have a phone contract with o2 so thought I wouldn't be able to get one. Manager said that restriction has now been lifted and I walked out (about 20 mins later) with a 32gb iphone4 with a new contract.
O2 didn't have any bumpers but apple shop (which didn't have any iphones) , had loads of black bumpers. Happy days!

Woman said they had 40 32gb at 10am and would sell out within the hour. Just lucky I suppose

Has anyone else been able to buy the iphone 4 from o2 on a new contract yet?

DITTO, looks like the only way will be to Jailbreak the iPhone 4 and install MyWi if this ever happens.

depending on if that happens or not and how elegant the solution is (i've heard problems with myWi 4), i may upgrade to a 3G iPad when v2 comes out.

i'm hoping when i sync my iphone tonight, the carrier update it will download (as i haven't yet syned the phone since swapping my cut down sim with the legit micro sim) doesn't remove the tethering option i currently have.

No, it doesn't just affect rude people.

Is this use of (very!) really necessary? IIRC County Durham is mostly very rural ;)

FWIW I had checked Three coverage before u/g to ip4 (under the belief that it would be no worse than the 3G). I used a PAYG SIM (not activated but it showed signal strength as 4 bars @ work and 5 bars every where else -- even places that o2 and v/f would drop onto GRPS or EDGE).

When I got the ip4 on Three I found that those 4 bars @ work were probably in the -85 to -95 db range (see http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/4/2010/07/the-effect-of-holding-the-iphone-4.png ). So dropping 20 odd db when attenuation the antenna killed the signal (in or out of a bumper). At home I could drop to 1 bar and have >150mbps but only on the bare phone.

I've since returned the phone and bumper, cancelled the Three contract and have bought a second hand 3G (having already recycled my original).

This is clearly both network and location dependent. It does make me laugh that the top two recommended products on the store.apple.com are the bumper and dock in that order, but they're not compatible with one another.

Hey ct2k7,

You are really having a tough time with this. I hope it gets to you quickly. It's getting nearer now.

Thanks - my nearest depot is TNT Southampton. It might be here this week. Apparently, Apple wanted the iPhones to be delivered at the same time, some staff interpreting the general internal email as the delivery date to be the 15/16th. This isn't going well Apple, TNT, sort yourselves out!.

02 + vodafone have plenty.

Or then again. Pre-ordered/reserved on Friday, Orange Business rang me back 30 minutes ago saying they had come back into stock half an hour beforehand. 32G due Tuesday and the 16s on Wednesday.

Sadly I'll be away when the 32 arrives!

And I forgot to say the operator did say it was 'unlimited browsing'. I know it won't be but what the heck.

hey guys. i have a question.

im from the philippines. and its currently july 6 here. my friend is in the uk. and i wanna ask him to bring me an UNLOCKED iphone 4 here when he comes back on july 11. i was wondering, where can he buy an unlocked iphone 4? and will he be able to purchase it before he leaves?

Advice please!

Finally got my ip4 but having signal strength issues even when flat on a desk.

My problem is this, in an internal office iphone 3g on o2 gives full bars, a tmobile payg gives full bars but most of the time the iphone 4 on orange gives 1 bar or searching! All phones are just flat on a desk.

Is it the network or the iphone!?

Thing is I only have so many days to return to orange saying network no good for me etc.

Why on the Apple site has it been shipping in 3 weeks for the last 2 weeks...

Because they currently predict that any order of an iPhone 4 will ship in 3 weeks from the date of order.

I think the prediction is a touch pessimistic. Most orders are shipping at least a few days sooner than these predictions from Apple.

Bad news, I'm afraid. It's 99% likely that it's the network.

Does anyone else you know use orange? Get them to try their phone in your location.
