O2 to Tesco...

Hi Guys,

I am currently a (fairly happy) O2 customer - but don't think the thought of an 18-24 month contract with them again, and the worry of 500MB data per month. I am currently on a SIMplicity £20 a month plan, which is "unlimited" and I could stick on that...

I really wanted to jump to the Tesco plan (like the 12 months, 1GB data etc) which is also £20 per month, however I wanted to hear from anyone that has done the same. Someone above mentioned Tesco was not great coming from O2 - can anyone else also vouch for this?

Otherwise I'll stump up and go with Apple for the handset, with no contract...

Thoughts?

Any ideas as to what's going on?

I've been on the Regent Street waiting list since 3 July. They told me today there are about 1,800 people in front of me.

Did they give you an idea on how long it would take them to dispatch 1800 phones ? Been on the list since 5 July and leaving the UK for a while on Saturday. Guess it will be a close one ...

It's not coming today. Read it here: http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2501364&tstart=0

TNT doesn't know where our iPhones are. Call them and they lie to you.

I'm as keen as mustard to get my iPhone, but seriously, some of the people on that apple thread need to get something else going on in their lives. There's a guy on there that said he wasn't going to sleep until he got some news on the delivery of his phone. And I don't think he was joking! Still, different strokes etc.

Sorry - I was a bit out of order. Although bigchris there was no need for the insult, people used to say that to me when I was about 8 ;)
okay, I said you were being a bit of a prick, not were one, You saying sorry shows that you are a decent person, if your still offended then I too am sorry.

I put my name on the Regent Street store list first thing on the 1st July so may get it this week, depending on how many they receive every day, not forgetting all those who cannot go pickup their reservation in time.

And I've got an online order that's due to be shipped on the 28th....

the race is on...

So many people should be in this situation tourists, people not residing in London,... At least 500 of these 1800 will probably not pick it up. But apple can't be sure of this right, since you don't need to reply to the pick up mail..

The thing is...if you just need the basics then Tesco's will be fine but if you want to enjoy the luxury of being a business costumer or a costumer service which can help you after one call then tesco's isn't the right thing with you....
Again reception aren't that good and is gonna take more than 25 phone calls to activate your sim card (thinking of that this was just a simple pay as you go one can't imagine how long its gonna take you on pay monthly:eek: )
Again features like visual voicemail will not be supported....I'm on orange now and extremly happy.......So yer it's completly up to you....

Apparently, I've used all 500MB this month. Oh boy.

But the £30 a month tariff gives a 1GB of mobile data.
And with a non-contract bolt-on (for another £5) that goes to 3GB.
Tethering is free too.

I hate the fact that Three's internet is censored, but the data deal is pretty freaking good.

Has anyone been able to walk into a Tesco Phone Shop and buy the iPhone on contract? I've been chasing the closest Tesco phone shop for almost 2 weeks now and every time I call they never seem to have the iPhone 4 in stock and never know when it will be coming in.
A friend of mine called on Sunday (yesterday) and was told they would be coming in on Thursday. I called up today, and once again they say they have no idea when they will be coming through.

Just wanted to know if this was usual of Tesco trying to be as much of a pain in the arse as possible or if this was genuine.

Also, is it just Tesco phone shops that stock the iphone 4 or is it all large Tesco extras?

Cheers.

Are those sort of standard rates for data in the UK?

// Jezper - not from UK

Anyone ordered iphone 4 from carphone warehouse in uk????
I just did but i am unsure on a couple of things......firstly whether its in stock.....and secondly, at the bottom of the e mail they sent me it said the strangest thing!! :

"What is a clearance offer?

* By using clearance stock, we are able to offer you even greater savings
* These mobile phones are either excess stock or mail order returns
* These products might have slight cosmetic flaws
* Each one has been inspected and comes with a full year manufacturers warranty
* A refurbished phone will come in a different box to the original
* The box will always include the handset, battery, charger and manual. No other accessories can be guaranteed"

Why the hell did they send me this at the bottom of the e mail......no where in the order did i say i wanted an iphone that may have flaws!!!

I dont get it....someone reassure me please??

Dude, I'm with Tesco and TBH I've had nothing but hassle from them.I don't want to go into too much detail as I'd be here all night.

Their reception where I am (North London) is terrible. At home I get 1 bar most of the time. And on a good day I get 2 bars.

Visual Voicemail!!! No chance mate. We don't even get Call Waiting!!!

Cheap, yes. 12 Month Contract, great. But overall VERY VERY BAD!

Could you please go into more details? I'd like to know more about your problems so I can assess whether to take the plunge or not.

Also anyone else with any experiences of Tesco, good or bad please say!

I'm made a new thread specific to Tesco iPhone so please post in there if you can:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/971891/

Also, Apple issued a 30 day period where you could return it if you didn't want it. Am I being too optimistic if I assume that this will extend to iPhones bought via Tesco? Ie. I could buy from Tesco, try it out and if it's terrible then return it?

I'm going to buck the trend here abit.

I am on contract with Vodafone and with all the malarkey with the signal dropping, I decided to wait until such time that I thought the iPhone would just work out of the box. I received a call from Vodafone on Saturday that they had 32g in store. I went down on Sunday, signed my 18 month contract, paid my fee for the iPhone and left.

I spent Sunday syncing and playing with the phone. I even bought a case from Carphone Warehouse and the phone works fine.

I am very happy with purchase and I hope all of you guys and gals waiting for your phone, get to enjoy it soon.:)

Nope. The guy said he had no idea. I don't think it'll be as long as it sounds though.

And those that have already sorted an iPhone and haven't cancelled their reservation. I don't think it'll be so long.

Scarily enough... have already managed to use 1.2GB downloaded and 98.6MB uploaded.
Hopefully it's just first month excessive uses.
Is that overall or only on 3G though? I may well be wrong but I was told that the usage in the phones menu shows total set and recieved from both wifi and 3G.

If that's true, it might not be as bad as you think? :)

Been on the 'priority' list since 6th July at Solihull/Leceister/Birmingham....no pick up email yet

Anyone picked up from any of these stores yet ? or know when they are getting any deliveries or stock ?

id be expecting to wait another 5-7 days i was on regent street list since 27th june and picked mine up just on this saturday

Hey guys, I'm a new member to the site, although I've been lurking for months and have been following and researching iPhone 4 for a long time now.

I'm planning on getting the iPhone 4 on Tesco Mobile (as it is overall at least as good, if not better deal than the other major networks, yet allows you to have only a 12 month contract, which means I can buy the iPhone 5 next year and sell my unlocked iPhone 4 for a reasonable amount).

I had a few questions, hopefully someone can answer them.

1. What is Tesco's network like? I know they piggyback from O2, but is there a difference between Tesco and O2 customers? Like do O2 customers get preference, leaving Tesco customers with worse off reception/data speeds?

2. Does visual voicemail work with Tesco's network?

3. Is it possible to buy the iPhone via Tesco mobile from the Apple Store? I know you can buy O2 and Orange (at least) iPhones from the Apple store so do they extend this to Tesco mobile as well? Or do I need to go to Tesco to get it? The reason I ask is twofold - (i) There are no Tesco stores near me that have a phone shop to sell the iPhone and (ii) I quite like the idea of having all of my old contacts trasnferred to the iPhone by the Apple guys so I don't have to do it myself.

4. Similar to question 3, but is it possible to buy the iPhone from the apple store ONLINE with Tesco mobile? As far as I can tell, when I select buy iPhone, it is for £599 for the iPhone only version, and there are no options to choose which network you want.

Thanks :)

Have been with Tesco for 4 days now and I've had enough already. First was the debacle of actually getting the phone ordered and delivered, then came the useless customer service, and to finish me off was the lack of any call forwarding and call holding (obviously no visual voicemail either).

If you are just after the very basics and are prepared to put up with the dodgy customer service then Tesco is quite a good deal, but for me, call holding and the ability to call forward are essential.

Apparently the lack of these features is all down to the fact that Tesco have an agreement with o2 to use their Pay and Go network, which don't have these features either.

I'm off to GiffGaff now on their unlimited tariff - who also happen to use o2, but have all the features enabled!
