So you're paying £360 more over the course of a two year contract?

Remember though, if you buy a 16GB iPhone on your contract you only paid £89 for the handset. On the Simplicity tariff, you'd pay £449 for it. That works out exactly the same price.

You're essentially spreading the cost of the handset over two years.

Yeah, I guess! The only reason I complain about the £35/month is that I use about 200 texts and about 10 minutes out of my 600 minutes and 500 texts, so I could be paying a hell of a lot less per month!

But then, like you say, I'd be paying more upfront for the phone.

I just popped into a few shops. One big fact was that Phones4U don't do PAYG iPhones at all. Apparently the networks get better buy prices on PAYG handsets so P4U don't try to compete in that market.

The other point of interest for me was that both O2 and Orange said that there would be the option to pick up a pre-order from my local shop (although I'm not 100% confident that the O2 rep actually understood my question). Orange said that, if I want to collect my pre-order fro the shop, then I need to place the pre-order in person in the shop. T-Mobile were very honest, saying that they don't really know anything, but that they thought from past experience that PAYG probably wouldn't be available on 24th June but would follow a month or so later.

So if we assume the 32gb iPhone 4 will be around £549 again then would it work out alot cheaper to get one shipped over from USA or not really?

I'm stuck in contract till December 2010 on 3gs and want to keep my contract for the unlimited data, so figured I'd buy handset and put current sim in and sell current 3gs to try and recover some of the costs!

How much do you think we will get for second hand 32gb 3gs once iPhone 4 is released?

Thanks

Assuming i take o2's offer up of the £20 per month payment for the rest of your contract, and upgrade to the iphone 4, do any of you guys thinnk stock willbe a problem?
i get paid on the 25th, so can order that morning, but do you think they will already be through the first batch of stock in the first 24 hours and i will end up waiting 2 weeks for the next lot?
i didnt get my 3g s until a month after it came out last year so dont know what the stock levels were like!
cheers!

I am also worrying about stock levels. I will be working till 12 on launch day so will only be able to go to an O2 shop in the afternoon.

Good old PIE ;)

Looks like all cpw phones are going to be locked, I was kinda hoping with potentially 5 different networks cpw would be doing unlocked ones cos that means that cpw stores are potentially going to have 25 different versions of iPhones in stock!!!!!

Just making sure I understand correctly, because I've always been on contract and never got an iPhone near the release date before...

I'm more or less decided on a current Simplicity tariff, which comes with unlimited data. My plan is to start this, and get my Mini SIM for that contract. Apparently, Apple won't offer the PAYG iPhones until about month after the contract release date. I had no idea. So, I intend to start a simplicity contract right now, and then get a PAYG iPhone when it eventually comes out. At that time, I'll get my Simplicity (with unlimited data) put onto a Micro SIM instead and use the new phone. Does my plan seem solid?

I just assumed that the PAYG phone would be available on the 24th. :(

There shouldn't be a stock problem as people can now choose between 5 networks so as long as Apple can ship enough to cover this then it should be ok.

I will be pre-ordering mine anyway the second it gets to the 15th just to make sure.

ive kind of done the same thing and started a 1 month simplicity plan for iphone, i just hope that i get to stay unlimited data, as i was promised on the phone to o2 but people tend to bend the truth a little lol.

Maybe they will be unlocked until you put a sim card in and then it gets locked to that network once you connect it to itunes to activate it?

I would be shocked if Apple are shipping 20-25 different models of iphone for the UK market, the warehouse for CPW would have to be huge to cope with the demand.

exactly my plan/assumptions
just need to know where to pre order from on the 15th. Apple, O2 or CPW. all down to availability of PAYG iPhones. also not sure if I should get a delivery or go pick it up.

Back with the other iPhones, the warranty is not international. I can't see any reason Apple would change it for iPhone 4.

The iPhones have been (and still are) Apple's only product not to have an international warranty :(. That and the fact that a USA iPhone will be SIM-locked to AT&T.

<Hugs USA iPad 3G 64GB he got 3 weeks early>

Worst that can happen is that only contract iphones are available on the 24th and we pay an extra month or two of Simplicity with no new iPhone to show for it. I think that's a risk worth taking for getting unlimited data now.

There was one other thing I was wondering, if anyone knows the answer. If I start a Simplicity contract right now in order to get unlimited data, can I use my iPhone 3G with it until the PAYG iPhone 4 comes out? When it does, I should be able to then get Mini SIM changed to a Micro SIM and then use the new iPhone. Is that right? I mean, O2 will set me up on a Micro SIM later won't they? Or is that only for anyone wanting to start one of these new capped tariffs?

That's fine! You can sim swap to another sim at anytime

I think o2 have a right to change your sim over to the micro-sim if you want them to.

Sounds good. I think I'm going to go and order the Simplicity contract while it's still unlimited data. Here's hoping the PAYG iPhone 4 shows up pretty soon!

Trust me they're not! If that was the case then they wouldn't have different product codes set up.
