My last two orders this year stayed in "processing" until they shipped. They don't give any progress updates until they actually ship.
When you purchase an iPhone under a line you have on your account the sim & phone number is attached to the IMEI # of the iphone.
So when Fedex or UPS delivers the package and when you turn the phone on it will ask for your last 4 social security number this is to verify that no one stole the phone without the last 4 that phone is useless no one can use it or activate it, once you put in the last 4 it will activate the phone just take out the simcard and you can sell the phone.
I sold a jet black 7 plus last year guy calls me asking me for my last 4 of social i did not believe him at first but I told him lets meet him and he was actually right the phone was asking for the last 4 of my social for him to bypass the activation screen and put in his own simcard.
However, if you purchase the SIM FREE UNLOCKED phone from apple which is not available at the moment you wont run into this issue.

Here's my entire chat with an Apple rep. Looks like I will have to wait it out until pick up.
Apple: I show that the phone was ordered to be paid in full. If you wanted monthly payments you would need to cancel and reorder through Verizon or the iPhone upgrade program.
Me: I'm pretty sure I clicked for Verizon device payment. Is that option available through the Apple website?
A: The only one we have is the upgrade program you would need to order phone through Verizon for their monthly payments.
M: So, if you order through Apple, it is impossible to pay through Verizon, correct?
A: Yeah there are more options at the apple store but online that is correct.
M: Is there a way I can change the method of payment at pickup?
A: I know I can’t change it but they may be able to. You may want to try contacting the Apple Store directly to see if they can do that.
M: Will payment go through when the order is shipped? If that's the case, then it cannot be changed, I'm assuming.
A: If it is delivered to your home its charged when it ships if its in store pick up its when you pick the item up.
M: Got it. Thank you for your time.
A: I do want to make sure that we have taken care of everything that we can today. Do you have any other questions about your order, or anything else I can help you with today?
M: I'm finished. Although one recommendation would be to highlight on the checkout page that carrier device payments can only be acquired through ordering with the carrier.

Thank you for this useful information! Quick question - When you activated the phone with provided sim (attached to phone #), did it deactivate the old device with the same phone # ?
I ordered a new phone on my wife's line, but when it arrives want to activate it on my line. The last thing I want is listening to how I deactivated her current phone.
Hey everyone I’m in the upgrade monthly payment program and usually we pay taxes and the 30.00 upgrade up front, in this case when the X ships. I was charged a pretty low number and the Verizon rep said the upgrade fee “may have been waived”. Odd that she couldn’t get into the order to see the details.
Anyone else seeing lower up front code or waived fees?

It looks like I was freaking out over nothing! I logged into the Apple Store on my iPad Mini 4 and as soon as the site when live at 12:04am PDT, I checked out the 64GB SG model. I had to enter my personal information again and thought for sure that I wasn't going to be in the 11/3 batch. Turns out we had more time than was rumored and I couldn't believe I was in the 11/3 batch.
Currently phone is in the "Preparing to Ship" stage! So excited!

On the Verizonwireless site, click on "My Orders." At the top of the following page, you should see "status."

Same. Which is better. And I got confirmation at 11:55. Mine still say processing.
Processing > Pending > Preparing for Shipment > Shipping/Shipped > Delivered
So I couldn't get into the Apple App/website till at earliest 3:10am EST. That forced me to look at the Verizon website which I ended up getting a Silver 256GB for Nov 3 buying it outright. I received the Apple Reservation email to sign up for their IUP, but that phone delivers Nov 17. Would it be a problem to return the Verizon bought iPhone closer to the 14 days, hoping the IUP phone comes in earlier? Maybe sell the Verizon on eBay?
Mine are still processing, and some phone orders from January for other lines (so almost a year ago) still say processing! Lol. Not sure if we'll all see status changes...
