Did you order it with an 8800??

No change in my MP w/ 8800 order:
Order Date: Jan 23, 2008
Ships by: Feb 13
Delivers by: Feb 19

1 TB Time Capsule ordered the same day doesn't ship until March... I wish they'd bill the card so I can get it paid and stop second guessing myself.

Well, I ordered 01/09 w/8800 with a Ship date of 02/14 and a delivery date of 02/18 (2 day shipping - but they don't deliver on the week-end). :(

Weird... I ordered on the 19th as well and my ship date is Feb 20th.

How did you get so far ahead of me?! haha

Rant/Tirade/monologue/crap:

I'M SO SICK OF THIS!
this is my first Mac and i'm gonna shove something down apple's "where sun don't ever shine" happy place.
god damn it they COULD at LEAST explain why the delay!! i don't want the friggin ATI, i want nVidia and i want it NOW. so sick of it.
i'm so sick of windows. and I KNOW that NOTHING is going to work as it's supposed to since leopard has as little to no support for Audio applications at this moment. i'm pissed off

I don't even have an official date because i cannot order it directly

I don't know for sure. My wife works for NBC, which is owned by GE, so I ordered it through the GE portal. She gets a very modest discount.

My theory is those dates mean nothing though. At least relative to each other.

Say, the last guy to order when it was 3-5 weeks, would get a later date than the one that ordered the next day when it was suddenly 2-4 weeks or something. At least that's how the dates seem to me.

Plus, it might matter if one changes anything OTHER than the graphic card too maybe? Will the delay be even longer for me since I ordered 3ghz ie?

I believe so.

Think about it. Apple just plugs in a number to the system: 3-5 weeks or 2-4 weeks or 2-3 weeks, whatever. They tell the system to automatically just give the order the highest amount (5 weeks, 4 weeks or 3 weeks, repetitively). For instance, the system says 2-3 weeks right now. I guarantee you, the system will tell you the ship date will be a date exactly 3 weeks from today.

Apple on the other hand, is going to release all the systems all at once, and I think that's going to be a time sometime between today and February 13. One magical day between this time frame, Apple will update everyone's ship date to the actual ship date and get these systems out.

I think I'll pass on your 'take whatever companies throw at me and be happy about it' lifestyle.

Actually, it's not 'take whatever companies throw' at me lifestyle. It's a 'I have a real life that doesn't consist of wasting my time on trivial matters' I mean, if anything, you're as much a proprietor to that lifestyle. You're getting pissed about it and still getting as much as I am...hahahaha.

Exactly. It's disturbing that consumers think otherwise.

No, it's disturbing that you're waiting on stolen goods from China made by small girls for a few dollars and you're still complaining about YOUR needs.

POP the bubble.

And that has what to do with the current conversation? You are delusional. Please shut up now.

EDIT: According to your logic, since Apple uses third-world countries to produce their products, consumers should never question their business practices. Interesting notion.

Please shut up. He wasn't whining. He asked for a reason for why it takes this long. Can't handle that?

What I can't handle are cry babies. What's the big mystery? The 8800 cards weren't available at the time the base model was. They offered the base model for immediate shipment as soon as they could, and totally up front told those who wanted the 8800 they would have to wait. Would you have liked it better if they delayed the intro until the 8800 was available, so even those who wanted the base model would have to keep waiting too?

I think their point though is we don't actually know that. It's all speculation. Everyone is guessing why it's late. Is it that they don't have the cards, or that they haven't been able to make the drivers work right. People just want to know what is going on. I have ordered mine. I am on the big waiting list. It would be nice o know why I am waiting so long. Does it change the wait, nope. Apple almost makes it feel like we are little kids, 'you're waiting cause we said so' kind of mentality. Then of course there is always the dread that at any moment they can delay the release further. Then of course they continue to release and ship other updates, so the question arises, are the Mac Pros last on the list yet again?

My point is that I have no problem making a pre-order, just tell me that the sale is one and why. I can't believe that means I'm asking too much.

Sometimes I'm amazed...

2-3 weeks? The poster i quoted ordered it Jan 17th with a shipment date of Feb 21st. How is that 2-3 weeks?? Apple should show the estimated shipment date if there is a specific component delay or if is a sort of "pre-order".

When I ordered my Mac Pro with Nvidia 8800GT by calling to Apple Store, the person in the phone said that the reason for the late shipment was that they get those Nvidia graphics cards at the first week of February.

Order date: 17 January
Shipment: 21 February

Still few weeks untill I get my Mac..Can't wait to get it :)

Yeah, I hear ya, Banacek. At this point the reason the cards aren't ready is only speculation, and Apple could reduce the wonder factor if they were to put forth a public explanation. I don't know why they don't,,, but if they hold to their delivery projections then they'll have met their commitment to us, and we'll have our rigs in the time frames promised when we purchased.

If delivery starts getting pushed beyond promised dates, then I'm totally with you, and will be pounding the table for an explanation of why they fell short on their promise. Till then I'm not stressing myself out by imagining ugly scenarios. And I have two pre-order items I'm waiting on, as I have also bought a Time Capsule, which doesn't ship till Feb. 29th.

Just chillin and focusing on pleasant distractions. It's a nice way to weather the wait.

I believe on Jan 17th, the order platform still showed 3-5 weeks. I know because I've been looking at it every day now. Feb 21st is the exact day of week 5 (sad but true). Right now, the system says 2-3 weeks. Right now (not Jan 17th). So... if you order today, the system will give you a date on week 3. These numbers are just thrown out from Apple's system (there's not a date locked into the system) to give you the exact date of week 3.

The bottom line: when Apple is ready to ship these systems, they will ship them all within a matter of days, not within a matter of weeks as everyone's "ship date" suggests.

Well, I am waiting no matter what :) The Mac Pro is the only computer I want. The wait gives me time to buy upgrades as well. I just hate not knowing the reason why there is a delay.

Hm, first you complain about how I diverted from the conversation and then engage in a dialogue about it.

Secondly, when did I ever say that? Please quote me. Yeah, thanks, Banacek...that's what I thought. Peace.

And to EyeCool: Yeah man, I did. I'm rethinking it because I'll only be really running FCP ...I'm not a gamer.

You implied it with your brilliant logic. Yes, please, do leave. We're talking about waiting for the MP. Since that clearly bothers you so much you shouldn't be in this thread.

Wow, this is the first cat-fight I think I've seen take place on such a forum.
Apple has a history of this, nothing new. (haven't we already been waiting over a year and a half for this upgrade?!?)
My two-cent advice, smoke a cigar, imagine your new proficient and prolific future with the new mac pro, then relax and drink a homebrew. Your patience will be rewarded. (this will be my first video editing upgrade from using my current powerbook g4!)

But speaking of which... I ordered my mac pro on Jan 12, and has a delivery date of Feb 26? Could this be right? It is longer than five weeks.

Guys, I just read through the screen freeze thread. Sounds like there's a bug that needs to be sorted out. Perhaps our waiting a bit is not such a bad thing after all.

What about the shipping date? I think that's the one that matter, not the delivery date. I have shipping the 20th of feb, while delivery is set to march 4th.. I really hope they won't send it by SHIP..

It might be a great thing. I just wish they would tell us :(

I've been following way too many threads since way before I ordered on Jan 8. We're all suffering from neurotic consumerosis syndrome. I'm crazy too!
Absence makes the heart grow fonder, to hell!
Give us our MP's and those damn 8800's, evil Apple you!
Wait until some of us real early orderers get ours and then the mean ones will do the "neener, neener, neener" thing and that'll get those without theirs really stirred and freaked!
You have all been a joy to read and follow! Thanks!
Just keep rowing! :apple:
