You didn't seriously order 4 1-terabyte drives from Apple, did you??

You must like throwing money away, huh?

Then your posts belong in the 'Waitin on my NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 1.5GB to ship' thread. No?

If it gets to be Feb. 10 and it hasn't shipped yet (mine has a ship date of Feb. 14), I'm calling to change the shipping to 2-day. I need it before my estimated Feb. 20 because that's the day of a total lunar eclipse and I don't want to get the FedEx box and then have to leave it just sitting there lonely while I go off to photograph the eclipse, the whole time thinking, "Gee, I wish I could actually be using this new computer."

what I did

I ordered the default configuration to get the box quickly and then ordered the 8800GT as an upgrade.

The box is now here and when the 8800GT is ready to ship it will. This cost me another few bucks but at least I am not waiting. Gives me a backup video card if I ever need one.

At least it all will be covered by AppleCare.

I wouldn't brag about that, TBH.

Buying aftermarket memory comes with a lifetime warranty. Applecare = 3 years.

Several hard drive manufacturers offer 5-year warranties on their drives. Applecare = 3 years.

IMO, that buyer made a very bad decision.

I'm not.

Merely stating.

BULK/OEM sold harddrives and/or ram usually have even less than that compared to retail.

:) I just ordered my first EVER apple product. Mac pro with gf 8800GT so I guess I get to join all your lucky people waiting. :D

Another switcher

I'm switching over from PC and waiting for my 8800GT. I've been doing a lot of work in Adobe Light room and CS3. I didn't want to deal with building a Windows 64 box (I don’t feel their platform is ready for 64bit) so I can use more than 3 gigs of ram, and when you work with RAW images, and a lot of them, memory gets short fast.

There is a lot to be said for having all of the components covered under Applecare. In practice it is often a lot of trouble to diagnose problems and it is very easy for the makers of each part to blame a failure on some other part. If I had an unlimited budget for a computer, I'd chose to have all Apple parts in it.

Obligatory segue to the original topic: Personally I don't have an unlimited budget, so I got a single HD and 2GB in my Mac Pro (2x 2.8Ghz) with 8800GT scheduled to ship on 2/15. I have ordered another 8GB of RAM from DMS and will fill in HD's as needed. :)

Just curious: What was your reason to switch?

This is my first Mac computer also. I have been wanting to make the switch for a very very long time. Just never had the money to do so. Well I have the money and with the new 8 core I thought now is better then never.

I know this wasn't for me but I thought I would respond also!

I've been saving and waiting forever. Doing everything on my MacBook Pro with 2GB of RAM. Now, 3.2 8 core with 8800GT, 4 1-TB drives, RAID Card and 16 GB of pure sweet RAM. This sucker is gonna hum...Now if it would ever get here I could stop doing all the humming myself.

This is my second Mac. I have had a PowerBook G4 for two and a half years. My new Mac Pro is going to be the greatest thing since ... I don't know... but I am pretty excited. (BTW: Mine shipping February 20th, ordered January 20th).

This is my second mac and our 3rd in the house. I started my wife out with an intel iMac last Christmas. She killed 3 pc's in 2 years due to viruses, I figured if I got her a mac, I wouldn't have to support her. She wanted a mac for her photography and I said so-be-it. I was anti mac for the first 6 months until I started having issues with Windows on my big daddy Dell XPS.

I actually liked OS X so much, Parallels works great for what I need to do with IE and got a mac book core duo, 2GB ram. Then I got an iPhone and liked it even more. I loved iWork and iLife so much, I started the waiting game for the new mac pro.

I was an MCSE in the 90's. I believed and preached everything Microsoft. Now, I'm glad to be riding myself of Windows. I find I'm much more productive in a mac environment. I'm launching a new company and expecting my second child. Perfect timing to ditch the Dell in favor of the more photo/video friendly mac. I actually unplugged and broke down the XPS today since I'm moving offices.

I ordered a 1TB airport extreme too. The one issue we've had with the iMac was the stock hard drive. It went out after 12 months of use.

Man, I tried running Logic on my Powerbook today and it was really chugging along.

I can't handle this wait anymore.

The only thing that's going to kill me is after I get my Mac Pro, having to wait for ProTools to get Leopard updated... which could take who knows how long.

This thread should be retitled!

The Official "TIRED OF waiting for my Mac Pro with 8800GT to ship" thread..

Dear Apple,

I bought my computer on Jan 8th. I want my damn machine already. Considering this is my first ever apple purchase, I'm getting a little frustrated at this point. Don't offer a product if you can't deliver it.

Sincerely,

garthalgar
