I was wondering the same thing. Heck a week later and getting it a week earlier. WTF. No offense but dang that sucks.
How is it that you ordered days after me (1/16) and yet you have the same delivery day?
I just tried to change my order but I guess that delays shipment again.
The funny thing is that all the other goodies I got from Newegg + printer will arrive way before the computer gets here.
Anyone beat my outlandish in-transit-estimate by the way?
Shipped by. Feb 20th.
Delivered by Mar 4th.
That's a slow delivery if so.. hehe
Yup mine is due t come on the 6th of March.
I ordered mine last night... This is true, your items from Newegg may arrive earlier than your Mac Pro, but I don't think it will be way earlier. Word from the Apple rep I spoke to is that the chips are arriving the first week of February and thats the reason for the hold. I've also heard that from a couple others as well here on the forums. No telling when they will actually ship, but I suspect when they do, it will be no later than the week of Valentine's day when they ship everyone's units.
Just a thought.![]()
I certainly hope so.
Yeesh. I've got a suggestion. When the MacPros with 8800GT's finally ship, how about a poll with this question:
For those who ordered the MacPro w/8800GT within 2 weeks of release, if you had known then what you know now, would you have:
1.) Bought & waited anyway
or
2.) Bought w/ATI 2600 & planned to later pay for the 8800GT from Apple, basically paying a modest greater cost yet getting your system much faster.
I'm not entirely sure what I'd have done, but it'd be interesting to see where the votes would fall.
Richard.
I figure I'm not only waiting for the 8800. I'm waiting for any possible hardware and ROM revisions, and a pre-installed 10.5.2, which will hopefully make my shiny (expensive) box better outtathebox. I think that too is worth waiting for.

Also worth pointing out, being an ADC Select member, it was a no brainer for me as to which option to take. That means waiting since I get a better savings with the 8800gt + Mac Pro than buying separately as I only get one hardware purchase a year with the select membership.
Sure, there are times I wish it was here *now* but in 2 more weeks when it is finally in my hands, the wait won't have mattered at all. Now, if this was my only business use computer, it would be a different story. I'd go with the 2600 or Quadro for immediate access to the machine. But, since it's not my only machine, I can afford to wait.

I thought it was the same wait for the Quadros? Are they shipping already?

What kind of hardware changes do you suspect they'll be making?
my 8800 GT equipped is scheduled to ship by Feb 13th... in just 10 days. its driving me crazy.
Well probably not hardware changes full-out. But say that a new firmware for the SuperDrive comes out. Or they get a newer batch of Hard-drives that end up being better.. Or they get a shipment of a slightly newer revision of motherboards...
All slim chances, and we probably won't see any performance differences, but I'm just saying that waiting for Apple to configure your machine with the 8800 is probably a more sure-fire way to go than getting the first ones out the door and sticking an 8800 in it. Which is why I didn't go with Amazon.
