I think the earliest one says shipping on the 12/13th (just one week). We'll see!

My original shipping date was 12th, then 2 days after placing my order I got an email saying there had been a problem with my credit card authorisation and I should phone. I rang and they said they would have to process it as a new order, they couldn't reinstate my existing order. As a consequence my shipping date is 14th. So much for being quick off the mark. And all because their shoddy shopping cart didn't ask for 'name as it appears on the card' like any decent e-commerce site does...

I know... the Apple site is very limited on what it asks for (in terms of billing information) on web orders, especially if you pay with two different credit cards with separate billing addys.

What about alone? Just the two 8800s? Or the two with a USB/FireWire card? Are there just two external power connectors?
Total watts allowed in the PCIe slots is 300. Each 8800 is 110 watts. Read BareFeats display card Buying Advice report for more details and links to apple's card wattage listings.

ONE GeForce 8800 GT vs FOUR Radeon HD 2600 XTs? (Corrected)
Notice that Apple will only let you configure-to-order ONE of the GeForce 8800 GTs while they will let you configure-to-order up to FOUR of the Radeon HD 2600 XTs. Why?

We first thought it had to do a difference in power requirements. Our initial posting of max power usage (based on an outside source) was in error. Apple has published the maximum power usage of each "2008" Mac Pro card:
ATI Radeon 2600 XT = 50 watts
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT = 110 watts
NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 = 175 watts

Though the difference is significant in power requirements, it's not enough to preclude installing two GeForce 8800 GTs in a "2008" Mac Pro 8-core. However, you must
1) order the second one as a kit (MB137Z/A),
2) place the two GeForce 800 GTs in slots one and two, and
3) since those two cars total 220 watts, if there's room to add an PCIe cards in slots 3 or 4, make sure they use only 80 additional watts (so as not to exceed the 300 watts limit for the PCIe bus).

For more info on the PCIe 2.0 bus of the "2008" Mac Pro, read Apple's documentation on "PCI Product-Specific Details."

Add me to the list...don't remember my exact purchase date, but ship date is 2/19.

This is my first Mac in many years (not since the 'dark times' of the PB 5300)...so I'm fairly excited to be making the switch (again).

I'm staring at my shrink-wrapped boxes for Logic Studio and VMWare Fusion - with no Mac to go with them (since, of course, they shipped immediately upon ordering). I know...poor me. :)

Anyway...been reading the forums for about 4 months...figured now that I've purchased I should register and participate.

Thanks in advance for dealing with stupid Mac questions from the FNG. :D

Lets speculate. IS there any possibility the 8800GT's will ship sooner, like next week possibly?

Next week is the scheduled ship date for a lot of people.

Although my 'glass is half empty' side is beginning to think that might not happen.

At least with my computer on order a lot of the frustration when my current computer crashes is tempered.

The one thing I did notice though, I ordered my computer on that first Tuesday. The scheduled shipping date is next Wednesday, the 13th. That is technically more than 5 weeks. Sure it's only 1 days but still :p

Anything is possible. I think once the computers start shipping for the early birds, they may ship for everyone else shortly after. No guarantees, but if they had plenty to go around, why wouldn't they?

Of course, it would certainly be my luck if they didn't.

I can't wait for my new Mac to arrive so I can get my work done without waiting for my G5 1.8DP to catch up. It's not crashing, but it is dogging! I wasn't even planning on jumping in on the Clovertowns, but something funny happened with one of the last system updates to Tiger. I've been running slow ever since. That left me no choice but to upgrade. I'm a web developer and I've got work lining up in droves. I gotta get things done! Hurry 8800GT!

Is it wrong that the first thing I do everyday is check MacRumors to see if any 8800GT computers have shippped?

I've officially passed the four week mark.

When did you buy your G5? Did you get it straight from Apple new?

I got my G5 around 3-4 years ago from PowerMax. I usually get my machines from PowerMax because they take my old machine as a trade-in. What surprises me is that the trade-in value is surprisingly competitive to what I'd likely get if I sold it myself on ebay.

BTW, yes I did get it new.

Nope, I've suddenly come into the same habits as you. I used to check this site once a week or every few weeks. I feel like I'm back to the days of checking my email to see if someone I wrote to on an online dating site decided to write me back.

Each day?!? How about every morning, several times before noon, then at noon, then several times after noon and then one quick peek at night just to make sure. Not that I'm anxious or anything...

My ATI2600 box is on the truck __in town___ and I'm at work. Nobody is home. GRRR. The VP just decided to drop in today and schedule a mandatory meeting.

Anyway I'm wondering since I bought this via third party reseller (MacMall) what happens if I get one of the bum ATI cards? Do I call Applecare, the vendor, or haul it in to a store?

I'm beginning to wish I'd stuck with the 8800, but Feb 29 is still pretty far out.

Same with me. Once I get my Mac Pro my productivity is going to go way up. Not because of the faster computer but because I won't waste so much time reading and re-reading these here forums.

Exactly. Once we all get our machines this board will be a ghost town :)

Hey! I resemble that remark! In fact, I just registered so I could say so (after lurking for the last several weeks) :)

That's why I'm having it sent to my work address. I've had all sorts of packages sent here instead of home. I'm in IT so I get big expensive boxes in perfect condition every week. My last package was my Canon XHA1. I must admit, I had to have fun with that at work before it even made it home. :D

Very very true. Very true. So much work to get done.

Unless something goes horribly wrong with the first batch of 8800GT's...

I wouldn't wish that on anyone who's waited this long!? The traffic here would double with folks venting and venting again on the wait for support to return their mac.

I'm at work right now. I sit at a desk in a lab all day writing software validation procedures. I hit the forums when my mind begins to wonder. So yeh, I'm here several times a day.

BRB, I'm going to grab another cup of coffee. I love my job.
