The "waiting for my Mac Pro with 8800GT to ship" thread..

I just spoke to my reseller and learnt that there is apparently a massive delay on these machines in Australia right now - I ordered mine over two weeks ago, and was told that it would arrive tomorrow. Now I'm being told to expect at least 3 more weeks of waiting.
Then I check the forums here and find that they have started shipping elsewhere and don't know what to think!
I've had my RAM (from OWC) for almost a week now, my hard drives arrived a few days ago, and I have nothing to put them in. (i)Life sucks.
I have to say, the ordering experience with this system hasn't been pleasant. The website seems notorious for feeding back inaccurate dates, the resellers turn out to add virtually no value, and I can't get a straight answer from anyone in the supply chain.

Been Waiting
I ordered my Mac Pro on the 17th with the 8800 card + WiFi and let the standard boot up drive to 320 GB. Mine was also the 2.8 GHz (8 core) system. My estimated shipping date is Feb 25th and it is to arrive Feb 28th. Not bad for the shipping but still thats a LONG ASS time to wait.
Because of my frustration i called apple and spoke with many different people Tech support/ sales/ and finally i was able to get a hold of a supervisor. Through all that, Apple offered me a refund of $200, I asked them if upgrading to a 500GB drive would slow down the shipping date they said "No" so i went ahead and did that. Now my computer is $50 cheaper and has a better HD.
I Still can't come to terms of why there are so many shipping dates on here earlier than mine. I even mentioned this to apple and they have no explanation for it. They wouldn't even tell me exactly what was slowing down the order even though i had a pretty good idea. I guess the apple inventory is very secret. If not it would have a lot of investors and analyst calling up Apple
Anyway so i guess if i don't here from apple via E-mail i'll just have to wait till the 28th. I have my 6GB of OWC ram and a 500GB HD from them sitting in my closet. I also have two 30" displays sitting in my closet and it's bugging me not to open it as well as my Final cut studio and Logic Studio

Is this a hoax? Apple hasn't even released 10.5.2 yet (which contains the updated video drivers) and you're saying your 8800GT Mac Pro is in the mail?

... and yet here we are. (shrug) No hoax. Mind you, I ordered real early, within minutes after the online store went live again.
Not that the tracking number has 'gone golden' but it appears that these 8800 Mac Pro's aren't waiting for 10.5.2. I just checked Software Update to see if there was 10.5.2 news there: There wasn't.
Just received the email, mine shipped
Now for me it isn't a rumor anymore...

You can all thank me for canceling my 8800 order and going with the 2600. I knew this would push things up significantly, never fails. BTW, the machine is screaming fast even with the 2600. I haven't finished loading FC Studio so no hard info yet. EQ2 runs well though on XP-pro on BC with max settings. No issues. This thing is so quiet next to my G5 dual 2.0. Grr.. OWC RAM was delayed by scarcity then adverse weather and is still not here.

It sounded like the operator was either on another line, or iChatting with someone else to confirm this. I was told that changing my order would indeed push me further back, so I opted for no change. My config (dual 3.0GHZ, 4GB RAM, 8800GT) is still scheduled to ship on Feb 12 and delivery by Feb 18 (which, my girlfriend just notified me, is President's Day - and a postal holiday?!) You've GOT to be kidding me!

They're just reading the date from your order. That doesn't change until they scan your machine in from overseas.
It sounds to me (from the other thread) that there is no que and Apple is shipping computers at random. Some folks who have waited from day 1 are getting shipped and others from the same day are not. Likewise, some who ordered in Feb are getting in ship and others are not. It's the strangest thing.
As luck would have it... I'm in the "not yet shipped" pool. A little envious of others, but hanging in there.
